  1. Make sure when you check the oil level that the bike is on the center stand and don't go over half full on the sight glass. Oil in the carb area is common if you are running too much oil. Welcome to the forum and hope you consider joining. It will be the best $12 you will ever spend on your bike. RandyA
  2. Great deal , isn't it? RandyA
  3. With everything hooked up, turn the ignition on and then cycle the kill switch off and back on several times. It should cause the pump to click several times each time you do this until the carbs are full. Try this and let us know what happens. RandyA
  4. I did not know there any ratio changes from 83/93. There was a change when going to the RSTD in 96 and then again on the Venture after that. RandyA
  5. I did not realize the E-3's have been out 10 years in a size that would fit the 1st gen. I remember having to wait on the front tire being released. RandyA
  6. Yes, as mm noted, it is back open. It is amazing to look down this huge trough of where the landslide went. It looks like a miniature Mt St Helens looking off the side of the mountain. I bet it was an impressive site when it gave way. I wish I had taken my camera with me. RandyA
  7. Mt Mitchel in North Carolina is 6,684 feet looking down on valleys 5,000feet below. The story goes that the Appalachian mountain range is much older than the Rockies and at one time were higher. But with the erosion over time, they are worn down. I was up on the Blue Ridge Parkway today between Asheville and Cherokee and the visibility was so good you could see 50+ miles. It was an awesome view. RandyA
  8. I second this opinion as many folks never greased the splines and this does happen. RandyA
  9. This is a thread on Mark's collector. RandyA http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67487&highlight=COLLECTOR

  11. Tree friends, like in monkeys or birds? RandyA
  12. Hey, have fun. If the weather had been nice, I would loved to have ridden down and said hi in person. RandyA
  13. I installed Spybot awhile back and my frustration is running over. On almost everything I open, whether it is ebay, paypal or many other common sites, I get the box popup that tells me that it may be a bad site. I have to go through the allow routine and it does not matter if I check always allow a particular site or what ever, it KEEPS coming up. To find something and pay for it I will have to go through this process over and over again. I looked at uninstalling Spybot, but you have to go through all the stuff in the immunization and quarantine section and I am not sure what to purge. Any suggestions? RandyA
  14. This is true. I can unclip the side panels and remove the grills on each side of the radiator in a couple of minutes and have easy access to plugs and carbs. The other thing is, I think the Venture engine is a beautiful engine and should be seen. That is one of the things I like about the 2nd gen. RandyA
  15. Thanks. I tend to be a little anal about symmetry and if there is one thing 1st gen's do not have it is symmetry in the views of the engine. When I painted my bike, I also painted all the stock lowers but I have no plans to ever put them on. I think it helps make the bike look more like a sport/touring bike. RandyA
  16. This is what I did and have yet to feel any discomfort from heat and when it is hot, I ride with shorts on. I know this bike pretty good as I have put 135,000 miles on it in 17 years. RandyA
  17. Dan, are you having a problem with the clutch releasing? Once the bike is warmed up a little and the clutch disc's have been broken loose, does it still jump a little when you put the bike in gear? When I initially start my bike, I will pull the clutch in and goose the throttle a couple of times and that will break the clutch disc's loose and it will go into gear without sounding like a thrashing machine that first time. If the disc's are not releasing good, it will make shifting a little more difficult, but you should also be able to notice the bike wanting to pull a little while sitting on level ground and in gear. Another thing, do you ever shift without using the clutch? I will occasionally shift 3rd thru 5th without the clutch and can be smoother than using the clutch. My concern is, do you have a clutch releasing problem or do you have a shift linkage problem? Generally, if the clutch slave is not leaking, it should be able to still have a full range of motion unless there is air in the system and needs bleeding. RandyA
  18. Thanks James. I just wanted it noted that it is restricted so more will be more comfortable in participating. RandyA
  19. That is probably one of the better looking TCI's that I have seen. Most look much worse than this, even good working ones. RandyA
  20. It is my understanding that only members can see the map and the information on it, is this correct? I ask this because of phone numbers being listed and the pin location, which for me is half way up my driveway. If this is true and everyone knew this, more members may be a little more comfortable about listing their personal information. RandyA
  21. How did you pay for these parts? Anything I buy over the internet I will either use Paypal with a credit card or a straight out purchase with a credit card. I DO NOT use my debit card. If I have a problem with a purchase, I will take it up with the credit card company and they will step in. RandyA
  22. This was forwarded to me by another member that also has a KLR. RandyA http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=110552
  23. I live here and know some really great roads. If you ever think about coming this way again, give me a call and maybe we can show you around some great rides and places to eat. RandyA
  24. It won't let me open in Adobe Reader and says it does not support this file. I had to go back to Windows to open it. This is a repair manual I just bought and downloaded for an 02 Infinity that I just picked up that has a blown head gasket. I can get it open now, but I still have to maneuver around to do it. RandyA
  25. I know some of you guys can spend the big bucks on a GPS, but I just can not convince myself I want to do that. A couple of years ago I bought a Magellan Roadmate that I got off one of the daily deal sites that was refurbished for about $50. It has worked real good, but now the speaker is not working. I am looking for a replacement or a speaker fix to at least salvage it. One question I have is I see some advertised with anti-glare screens and wonder if any of you can say as to whether that is effective on a bike. I know that I sometimes have a difficult time seeing the screen on mine when then sun is behind me. I know that there are motorcycle specific GPS's available, but I am hoping to find something that works ok without the big bucks. RandyA
