  1. On the back side of the handlebars, not sure which side without looking. It covers the wiring and hoses. RandyA
  2. The final drive. During acceleration, you will have proper gear spacing, but during deceleration, the proper gear spacing goes away. If this is the case, it will probably be cheaper to pick up another final drive rather than trying to fix yours. RandyA
  3. My 83 has 162,000+ miles and has a slight whine sometimes, which is typical of square cut gears. I do believe that by going to Shell Rotella T oil that it is noticeably quieter. RandyA
  4. Do not put Rain-X on as it can damage the coating on your windshield. RandyA
  5. I suspect you have a broken pinion nut in the rearend. You will need to pull the rear wheel and the rearend and generally the driveshaft will come out with the rearend as the seal holds it in. RandyA
  6. Sitting here watching the grass grow. I wanted to wait closer to the weekend to mow, but have 60% chance of rain today and tomorrow. The weather has been beautiful the last couple of days, but Linda has had her grand kids here. We are having record cold temps at night at about 55 degrees. It is already feeling fallish. RandyA
  7. 9 Months Later... Keith decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Keith's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. They pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night. 'I realize its terrible weather out there and I have this huge house allto myself, but I'm recently widowed,' she explained. 'I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house.' 'Don't worry,' Keith said, 'We'll be happy to sleep in the barn, and if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light.' The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing. But about nine months later, Keith got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend. He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, 'Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?' 'Yes, I do.' said Bob 'Did you, ER, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?' 'Well, um, yes!,' Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out, 'I have to admit that I did.' 'And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?' Bob's face turned beet red and he said, 'Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy, I'm afraid I did. Why do you ask?' 'She just died and left me everything.' And you thought the ending would be different, didn't you?... You know you smiled... now keep that smile for the rest of the day!
  8. Good for you Alan, now how about putting what you ride in your heading with your name and we will know what you got. RandyA
  9. Probably just needs resoldering. This is pretty typical on these bikes. Someone that has done it will chime in and tell what you need to do. RandyA
  10. I wish Linda and I could have met up with you guys, but she worked Thur & Fri and picked up the grandkids this morning, so we just could not do it. But, we sure wanted to. RandyA
  11. If you messed with the idle adjustment screw that much, there is no way the carbs are in sync. Did you mean the air/fuel mixture screws? RandyA
  12. I think it looks good and I would consider painting it flat black. RandyA
  13. I bet Tweety likes those cool temps. RandyA
  14. Most likely an exhaust leak pulling in oxygen during coasting and refireing. RandyA
  15. I tried not to, but I smiled anyway. RandyA
  16. I have the 83 that I have had for over 17 years that now has 162,000+ miles on it. I have done a few mods on it such as; MKII headlight assembly, bikini side panels, Corbin seat dished out even more, took 1/2 inch out of center stand and put steel wheel on right side to spin bike easily, purple paint with ghost flames and now a V-Max rearend. I also have an 85 that is ser# 5000+ that is complete that probably needs a TCI and some TLC. I still ride the 83 routinely and put 270 miles on it Tuesday and with the V-Max rear, I still got 45 mpg. RandyA
  17. Sounds good, but if it local to you, it is too far for me. RandyA
  18. On a real good day, I think I could go 250 miles, but I would be empty. RandyA
  19. Linda and I would love to see you guys. If you will lay out your schedules, we may be able to make the trek down there for some kind of get together. I know we would not be camping, but is there any motels in the area? Are you leaving Sunday? RandyA
  20. With the way the bike did a nose dive, it looks like he pulled in front of the car and hit his brakes. I could not tell if the car sped up, but to me, it is not apparent. It is obvious that the bike already had a problem with the cager. As I have said before, it is better to just go on and get away from the road rage. I'm sure the cops got to see the video and I doubt the cager was charged. On a bike, you just don't pull over in front of a car and intentionally grab the brakes or this kind of stuff will happen, especially on a crotch rocket that has real good brakes. RandyA
  21. I sure do wish Linda & I could join you folks. RandyA
  22. Well, did he survive? I checked both posts and he has not responded yet. RandyA
