You are right Woody, it is a great site. It is rtl, not ril. I have an Acer laptop running Win 7. This all started whenever I got the ransom/FBI virus and had to do several safe restarts and restores just to get the computer unlocked. I also cleaned out a bunch of stuff and probably deleted something I should not have. I was using Avast that was put on the computer and had Spybot and ccleaner. After this happened, I went back to the Comcast Constant Guard Shield program with Norton, since I use Comcast internet. I have done a couple of virus scans, but don't know if I did it right. I know just enough about a computer to tear it up. I will look at some of this and see what I can come up with. Thanks everybody. RandyA

I get a box that comes up every time I start up that says I don't have rtl150.bpl installed. Anyone know anything about this? RandyA

headlight won't come on

It could be the CMS needs a solder job, but usually one light or the other will just get dim. So, I would try Gary's suggestion first. RandyA -
We are not sure what we can do yet. Linda has started a part time job and they are using her for some fill in. This week she is working today and Friday and sometimes she works weekends. It is in a nursing home, so it goes 24/7. We would love to come down that way and see you and Charlene and let her meet some more members. She had a great time at MD year before last and loves the Asheville rally. So, we will just have to play it as it goes. RandyA

Linda and I took an absolutely beautiful ride over the mountain toward Asheville and rode some back roads I have never been on before. We did end up going through Hot Springs as part of our loop. We did have to do one little backtrack because I wanted to see if a closed road was really closed and yes, the road had dropped a couple hundred feet down to the river. The weather and temperature were perfect and traffic was light, but we had two different encounters with wild turkeys. The first one was having a turkey on both sides of the road and we just slowed and went between them. Later on, we encountered another turkey that was in the road and I blew the air horns and it ran to the left side of the road, did a 180 and then flew back about head level right in front of us. Again, we had slowed down enough that we able to avoid it. We also had to slow once for a vulture in the road eating that was about as big as the turkeys. For the type riding we did today, the V-Max rear was perfect. Only on the short section on the interstate did I want to shift one more time. RandyA

What did I do?
Venturous Randy replied to HStocker's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not necessarily. It would depend on how good your clutch is releasing and when these engines are cold, they tend to pull a little in gear with the clutch pulled in. Put the bike on the center stand and put it in gear with the engine off and rock the wheel. You can also push the rubber sleeve back where the engine meets the swing arm and see if the drive shaft is turning when you rotate the wheel in gear. Another thing you can do is take the cover off the middle gear and see if it is rotating when you put it in gear. RandyA -
What did I do?

You beat me Pete. I was going to ask if he has ever greased his driveshaft. That is what it sounds like to me. RandyA -
What do you do when you see another Venture??
Venturous Randy replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
If going the other way and on a two lane, I will try to hit the air horns. If I see them parked, I will try to stop and introduce myself and mention Venture Rider.org. RandyA -
As you know, when you put the pointer on the back button and hold it down, it will show open pages, including the ads. Note the exact listing on the ones that you do not want and then go to the restricted site listings and add these and they won't come back up. RandyA

The white jug is what I use in my 83 and it should show various vehicles, such as lawn mowers, motorcycles and diesel trucks. Keep in mind that you don't get a more hostile environment on the bearings than a diesel truck engine. I also noticed that what whine I had seems less with this oil. I also use this oil in my 03 Infiniti and in Linda's Toyota van. And, it is about $13 for a gallon at Walmart. RandyA

OK, are you talking about the number of splines in the sleeve? To put the V-Max rear on your MKII 1st gen, you will need a different plastic dust cover that goes on the wheel. Other than that, it should be a direct bolt up and you will use your MKII driveshaft. I will see if I still have the plastic bag with the part number on it for the dust cover. It is fun with the V-Max rear as long as your passenger does not mind the front wheel coming off the ground in 2nd gear. Did that with Linda yesterday accelerating to match traffic and was not getting on it real hard. RandyA

It does not matter whether the pinion gear has 9 teeth, 10 teeth, 5 teeth or 20 teeth, the speedometer will read the same if the ring gear stays the same, 33 teeth. In one revolution of the wheel, there are 33 RING gear teeth that will pass a given point. For EACH ring gear tooth, there is ONE pinion gear tooth that matches. Therefore, for each RING gear tooth that advances, one pinion tooth advances. So, for the ring gear to make one revolution, the pinion will have 33 teeth that passes the sensor. The sensor does not read the number of revolutions the pinion makes, it reads the number of teeth that passes by and that is ONE tooth on the pinion for ONE tooth on the ring gear. It does not matter which gear is the drive gear or the driven gear. It is simply counting teeth. RandyA

Did you change tire size or something? Mechanically speaking, it will not make any difference in your speedometer reading. You do realize that your speedometer was off before you changed to the V-Max rear, if it was normal like other bikes like yours. RandyA

I have had a friend's Goldwing in my garage since last summer that has the gears that the starter goes into being broke. We were about ready to pull the engine and got involved in other things and he was not sure what he wanted to do, so it has been taking up space. It is a 96 1500 with reverse and a nice looking bike. He bought an RSV and he loves it. At this point I plan on fixing the gears and rebuild the carbs and getting it running good and selling it. I do know a guy that triked his 1200 Goldwing and did a real nice job on it. I have been thinking about talking to him and see what it would take to trike this one. Anyway, since I don't have enough to do, I now have another project to play with. RandyA

Ouch, looks like you did a high side and that can hurt. RandyA -
for a friend. Any suggestions on a supplier for a new one? Thanks RandyA

Doing this would get you close, but I would still do a sync on the bike. RandyA
