  1. You need to look at the number on the TCI, which is located under the battery box and see what the part number is. If it starts with 26, you have the wrong TCI for the 1300 carbs. No matter what your situation was with the 83 carbs before, the 83 TCI does not work correctly with the 1300 carbs. You need to eliminate the known things that are not right before you go on a wild goose chase. One problems with syncing carbs is any vacuum leak must be fixed before the sync is done. Otherwise, the sync will try to include the leak and once you go off idle, the sync may be way off. One more thing, where is the vacuum hose hooked to on the carbs right now? You said this was checked, but by who? Most Yamaha mechanics know very little about these bikes. RandyA
  2. Trader, you sure nailed it. Now, a doctor appointment in the middle of the day seems to take the day, especially when I come home and take a nap after it. RandyA
  3. Given the bike is lighter than a 1st gen and has a lower center of gravity, along with a lower seat, it will probably be easier to handle and ride, especially for those of us that are inseam challenged. But, to me, I am not real crazy with the styling. It looks too much like a stripped Goldwing with some cheap looking panels to cover some of it. Maybe in real life, it will look better, or with at least a different color. Again, as noted, you have to give it to Honda for trying. RandyA
  4. If you installed 1300 carbs on an 83, you may have the wrong TCI. Where did you connect the Boost sensor hose to on the carb/manifold? On the 83 carbs the hose connects to the carb which is above the throttle plate. The 1300 carbs do not have a port on the carbs to hook the hose. If the hose is connected to the manifold, it will need to have an 84 up TCI. RandyA
  5. Hey Don, you do pretty good. Have you thought about working for Healthcare.gov? RandyA
  6. Do you have a leak without the engine running? Do you have a leak when you turn on the ignition before you start the bike. Is the fuel leaking from any of the small hoses hanging down in front of the rear tire? Is it leaking from the fuel filter, which is in front of the rear tire? If you have a fuel leak and an electrical ground, make sure you have a good fire extinguisher close by. RandyA
  7. Hey Doug, that is a nice looking 1st gen. As far as the gas leaks, with as long as the bike sat, I would suspect the gas may be coming from the over flow tubes because you have a stuck float. As for your electrical problem, you may have to chase down a ground, but I would do it as part of replacing the stock fuse panel with the blade type fuses. There is a member on here that sells a kit, or you can pick up a fuse block with about five or six fuses. As far as the plastic repair, I have never had good luck with putting fiberglass on ABS plastic. There are some pretty good plastic epoxy products that work good. In your USAF time, did you ever spend any time at Seymour Johnson air base in NC? RandyA
  8. Yep, know what you mean Dan, with Linda's double bypass and my chest injuries, October was a month around here where coughs or hiccups always had a loud groan with them. Hope you guys get past this and everything is better. RandyA
  9. Are they in good shape? Let me know what you want. RandyA
  10. Sounds good cowpuc, I like smoked salmon. RandyA
  11. Are you in the VA system? RandyA
  12. And, you need to make sure your charging system is up to par. RandyA
  13. I saw that also and was wondering about it. RandyA
  14. I was about 47 years old and went into a fast food restaurant and when the 16 year old looking girl started to ring us up, she looked up and asked me if I get the senior discount. I said "sure" and the wife looked at me with one of those "what?" looks. I know there are some seniors on here and wondered if they remember their first time being asked this. RandyA
  15. In a few more months I will have had my 83 Venture 18 years. During this time I have put about 142,200 miles on it and the only serious maintenance was changing the transmission to a MKII, due to 2nd gear. How about others? RandyA
  16. Yes. and how much is an imperial gallon for you? Right now, a gallon of gas here is about $3 and in some places lower. RandyA
  17. Yeah, he bought Rooster's red and white 2nd gen that had the sidecar, but he did not take the side car. RandyA
  18. Hey, when ISN"T nap time for you? RandyA
  19. I think Dan is just trying to get over the embarrassment of his decision. RandyA
  20. My grandson Shane may be buying the 83 Venture Royale from Steve Neal, SGN, after Steve went a 2nd gen. Shane rode my bike to work a while back and said he liked it. For many of you that may remember, Shane had a very serious crash on his CBR 600 crotch rocket and had very serious leg injuries. My son Brian has an 86 so that would make three generations. This may be a first on here. RandyA
  21. There were no bids and I am pretty sure it will be listed again. I bought the last one after notifying a couple of folks that had expressed an interest, but they did not bid. I got everything for $49 plus shipping. RandyA
  22. Don and Susan were the very first folks from Venturerider that I met, just before the first Vogal. It was in Birmingham, Al when I took a ride after working on my bike. When I went to the 1st Vogal, they were gracious enough to let me stay in a spare bedroom in their cabin. Great folks for sure. RandyA
  23. Hope everything goes good for you Larry. RandyA
  24. I have also noticed this and I also feel that even when there are folks on here, many may be reading, but not responding. I recently posted a question about a 1st gen/2nd gen shock question and I thought there would be some interest. But, I received 194 views and not one response, not one single response. I don't know what we need to do, but I applaud you for expressing your concern. RandyA
  25. These transmissions can be used on the 83/85 bikes as a replacement for the 2nd gear problem. The gear ratios are wider spaced, giving a higher 5th gear. They can also be used in the earlier RSTD's that have a very high 5th gear that would make 5th gear more usable, especially with a V-Max gear, which is 10% lower geared. Are you confused yet? The transmissions on the 85's, after serial number 1403 and up, have been pretty much bullet proof with the exception of the pins coming out on the front of the shifter tumbler. This was fixed on the 2nd gen transmissions with a cast part that did not have the pins. When a pin comes out, you can not shift above that gear. RandyA
