Exhaust turn downs

Thanks Jim, just took a chance in asking what you had. You never can tell, someone may have one like mine they don't want anymore. RandyA -
Exhaust turn downs

What kind of light bar did you have? Shane's light bar has about four of the panels the lights mount on missing and I would love to get more. I can get the lights with reflector/lens, but I need the part that goes from the top bar to the bottom bar. I will see if I can find a decent picture. I have added a couple pictures from my bike that has the same light bar. RandyA -
Hey, why ask for a 2013 when 2014's should already be out? RandyA

Exhaust turn downs
Venturous Randy replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That is a great offer Jim, but I hate to take the insulators when someone else could use the turndowns. I was looking for turndowns because with the light bar, the mufflers need to be a little longer to look good and need turned down to get the exhaust away from the light bar. I pulled the one insulator out and looked at it and it does not look like anything special. I have some rubber that may work, it is just a bit thicker. Anyway, thanks for the offer and let me see what I can come up with before I mess up what you have. RandyA -

Are you talking about the turndowns or the rubber insulators inside? And thanks for your help. RandyA -
If I did not give a damn about this site, I would not be on here multiple times a day. I have always felt very fortunately to have stumbled on to this site and to have met some really great people. I have helped others and I have had others help me. I have met friends that I would never have met that I talk to routinely. I have had members visit me and stay at my home and hope this will continue. All of this started because of the dedication of Don in having a site that has always been within the context of a very family friendly site. I, personally, do not have any issue with what Don did and if anything, it brought a lot of attention to what one of our members has to offer and it let others know to check what some of our members do provide. I do not see this as a win/lose thing, but as a win/win situation. RandyA

Good for you. To me, it is easier to flip the kill switch several times off and on rather than do the ignition switch to fill the carbs up. RandyA -
Spark plug R&R
Venturous Randy replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I also use some anti seize on the plug threads. Another thing you may want to do is take a small serewdriver and take the cap apart and check for corrosion. There is a small spring in there, so don't lose it. RandyA -
This is a very good thread for me as my Comcast just went up about $25 and when I questioned it, they told me it was going up another $25 in March. They said I was getting discounts. My frustration is sitting here going through channels set up in "my favorites" and still not finding anything I want to watch. Then, some of the ones I do watch, I have already seen several times. My problem is I usually like several channels like History, Military, and a couple others, but I am paying for many I just skip over or do not have them in "my favorites". RandyA

the only stupid question
Venturous Randy replied to pmelah's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, are you talking about the 84 or the 99? If you are talking the 84, you also need to pull the rearend and driveshaft and grease both ended of the driveshaft. The 99 may need the driveshaft end that goes into the u-joint greased, but it is not as critical as greasing the big end on the 84. RandyA -
Linda and I wish you and Charlene the best. Yep, you're correct, getting old is not for sissies. RandyA

Wishing you guys the best, Tom and Lew. Just dream about riding next spring and how good it will be. RandyA

My concern with the 60 weight oil is when the bike is started up cold, it may be best to let the bike warm up and not rev the engine as too much oil pressure can cause the oil manifold to push out some allowing the orange oil ring to pop out on one side causing a big drop in oil pressure. RandyA

As I sit here on a cold December day, about 15 degrees below normal, it is real nice to read about a warm summertime event. I want to say that you and Tippy are the essence of what VentureRider.org is all about. You love to ride, you do not hesitate to stop and help others and you are a lot of fun. It was great to meet you at Vogal, "Yes Virginia, there really is a Vogal", and it was very interesting to talk to you. I would love to just take off and see what the country out there is all about. I think one of the best things you have done for meeting people is to put all the stickers on your bike, as immediately people know that you are traveling and you have been many places. I still think that if you are going to stay with a 1st gen that the 2nd gen trans and VMax rear would fit your needs perfectly with the 10% lower 1st and the 5% higher 5th, especially for trekking out in the boondocks like you do. I have a spare 2nd gen trans if you want to stop by here someday and swap it over. RandyA

dna, one upgrade on the two brush starters is to do the ground mod. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46890 If you will scroll down to the tech libraries, you may find several things that will help you out. RandyA -
Speaking of bugs and cold, some of the places I have been up north that gets really cold has some of the worst bugs. RandyA

I have had very good success with CL, both buying and selling. As noted, there are some things you can do to make it better. I have sold some things that the buyer would never had much of a chance finding if I had only used the local trader, as they were not local. Don't blame CL, just learn to work around the scammers. Thanks Squidley on the tank cover offer, but he has a good one. As far as the rubber sleeve, one has a good one so I may just use it as a template. I will just look around for some rubber that will take the heat. Thanks guys, RandyA -
Once you get some riding time, you may want to do a needle adjustment on the slides. Several of us have had great luck in going from 40 mpg to 45 mpg and if cruising two up through the mountains, I have got as good as 50 mpg. This is also without loosing any power. Also, do you have your YICS still hooked up? If you do, blocking that off can help your bike run better. RandyA

Thanks again Andy. I'm sure you are correct on this one not being a Markland. My bike had the same light bar as Shane's when I got it almost eighteen years ago and since it had other options that were Markland, I just thought it might be Markland. RandyA -
New owner again AND again~!
Venturous Randy replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You may be one of the lucky guys on your 85. With the serial number 1416, you are the closest I have ever seen to the 2nd gear fix with the new and improved thrust washer. I believe the fix was on 1413. I have an 85 with the serial number in the 5000+ range. If you look at the top of the page under VR History, you can get some better information on your bike. RandyA -

Thanks Andy. We have not tried them on the bike yet and I was wondering where the springs hook. The bike has what I think may be the Markland light bar and that is why we wanted the turndowns. I have attached a couple of pictures that show the light bar. RandyA
