  2. I have decided that if I ever win the Lottery that I am going to tell everyone that I am going to make two lists of names, one I who I want to help and one of who I would like to get rid of. So, if I win the lottery, you better know which list you are on. RandyA
  3. I have used the Chatterbox 20(I think) headsets that are tethered from rider to passenger for about the last 15 years. I have replaced different parts of them a couple of times, and they work OK, but I am looking for something else. I am looking at something different that I know nothing about, including Bluetooth itself. One of the things I am concerned about is battery life. Most of these note battery life around five hours. This was the big problem on the early Chatterbox units and they were not rechargeable, but I spent about a buck for an AAA battery holder and wired into the Chatterbox unit and Velcroed it on to the helmet and it works great. Chatterbox should have done this. My phone is Bluetooth capable and I believe my GPS is also. But as I have said, I know nothing about this. So, anybody got any suggestions? I will attack one that I looked at. RandyA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Multi-Interphone-headsets-1600-feet-3-riders-can-connect-/190653629607?_trksid=p2054897.l4276
  4. The thing that needs greasing is the bushing/bearing that goes into the speedometer that the cable sticks into. The only way you can grease it from the outside is to force grease around it and there is a fitting that someone on here sells that will screw onto the threads where the cable housing goes and has a grease fitting you can use with a grease gun. The way most people grease the speedometer is to take it out of the dash and look down inside the speedometer at this bushing and put grease on from the inside. You can use something like axle grease and put it around the top of the bushing and it will work its way down around the bushing. Do not use anything like WD40 as it will just wash any grease off this area and get worse. I have used a long small diameter rod and put a dab of grease on the end of it and smear it around the bushing several times and like I said, the grease will work its way down around the it. This tread shows the fitting I made a long time ago that you can make yourself. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36254&highlight=speedometer RandyA

  10. I think my 83 is just on or off. I have never tried to put it on reserve and can not imagine why anyone would want to put it on reserve. RandyA
  11. The way to get that special torque head screw loose......... and the rest of the stuck, stripped head ones is........... vise grips. RandyA
  12. Rode about 40 miles yesterday and it was 71, At about 11pm last night, I went o Wally World in shorts and it was still 71. the only concern with the ride was it was a bit windy. Not a bad ride for the first day of winter. RandyA
  13. I have a similar problem on my 83 Venture. If my bike sits for a couple of weeks, I will have to bleed the left front as it will get air in it. There does not appear to be any leak as the reservoir does not appear to go down and there are no visible leaks. It also seems to happen if I ride the bike in the rain and then park it. RandyA
  14. In my four years with several deployments, I can not ever remember sleeping in a motel or eating in a restaurant that was paid for by the government, but being in the USAF, I know I had it a lot better than my brothers in the other branches of service. I was real lucky that I was not on the flightline when the saboteurs came on base and attempted to blow up the AC130 Gunships and were killed or close to where the rockets landed when they were sent over. I was lucky that I had it good compared to many others. And, as far as overtime, how about twelve hours a day, six days a week at over 100 degrees and very high humidity while in South East Asia. Oh, in the military, or at least the way it was when I was in, if you did not like the job you were told to do, saying "I quit, I'm going home" was not an option, unless you wanted to go to prison. I really don't think you have a clue to what it is like to be in the military, whether it is for four years or thirty years. RandyA
  15. Syscrusher, I see you avoided answering my question. Not to pick on you, but I personally have found that those that are not very supportive of the military people never served, nor had family members that served. As I said, I was just curious. Djh3, if I had got that kind of money in 1969, I would have felt like I was rich. With a wife and child, I was eligible for food stamps up to about an E-4, but I never pursued them. RandyA
  16. Years ago, I was parked next to a handicap spot with a Corvette parked there with a handicap tag. A blonde, which I actually knew from High school, walked out and started to get into the car. A police officer was watching her and pulled up behind her and questioned her parking there. All she kept saying was the car had a handicap tag on it. I also knew her husband, who the tag was for. It really gets me when someone uses a handicap parking place because their family member, who is not with them, has a tag, knowing the difficulty that some have in getting around. When my grandson Shane was recovering from his severe leg injury, even though he had a temporary card for Handicap parking, as soon as he could get around with crutches, he refused to park in a handicap spot. He said he needed the exercise. RandyA
  17. Well, actually, my butt is in the video also at the beginning of the video. RandyA
  18. Thanks, I needed this. Sadly, most all fits. RandyA
  19. I'm curious Syscrusher, what is your and your families' military history? My dad enlisted in the Navy at 16 before Pearl Harbor and was at Gudal Canal at the end of the war. I enlisted in the USAF in 69 and got out in 73. I was part of part of Operation Linebacker and served in Southeast Asia in 72. Due to the way the military was treated during and after Vietnam, I DID NOT encourage my son to go into the military. You referred to where they "worked". In many or most cases, it was a lot more than a job where they worked. When you are in the military, you are basically owned by the government. You do what you are told, when you are told. If you don't like what is going on that day, you don't go to your union rep and complain. Etcswjoe touched on several things that most people never have to even think about and the reason they don't have to think about is because someone else stepped forward to do what they could so others don't have to think about it. All gave some and some gave all. RandyA
  20. Wow, it looks so warm there. Actually, that was probably one of the coolest Vogals we have had. I drove down as that is my black Infinity in the back ground. RandyA
  21. On this daily deal site, they have the infrared thermometers on sale for $16. http://www.dailysteals.com/#d/16286 RandyA
  22. According to the weekend weather forecast, we should be near 70 degrees for Sunday. Only problem with that is we are also supposed to have a 70% chance of rain. I could use a little seat time, but riding in the rain is not my idea of having a good time. RandyA
  23. Does the clock reset time at the point you are starting the bike? Is it still working after the bike has sat for a while before you turn on the ignition? Have you checked the voltage on the battery before you start the bike after setting for awhile? RandyA
  24. I can not imagine there is much of a market for 1st gen rear shocks, compared to a 2nd gen. RandyA
