  1. While pulling my carbs, I noticed the pull cable running from the junction box to the carb has a frayed wire. In looking at the diagram, it looks like I may need #3 in one picture and maybe #4 in another picture. Can anyone confirm which one I need and the best place to get it? Thanks, RandyA
  2. I have a couple of Megellans, even a 7 inch one. They work good, but I can not use them on the bike because of glare. The 7 inch one I keep in the car and at times it is still hard to see. I wish there was something that I could put over the screen to cut down on the glare, but I have not found it yet. I have a Garmin on the bike and it is much better outside. RandyA
  3. Wow Arthur, I sure do hate to hear that. being laid off or loosing your job is not fun. I been there, done that. I wish you the best. RandyA
  4. Yes, for camping we use D-19 through about D-24, give or take a few. I have D-20 reserved and I think Woody has D-21. Tell them you are with the Venture group and according to who you are talking to, they may know what you are talking about. RandyA
  5. I think. I have had an 83 engine with about 30K miles on that I put a 2nd gen trans in that I have wanted to put in my 83 for a couple of years. I just keep putting it off as the engine that is in it now, with about 167,000 miles still runs real strong and still does not use any oil. But, with the V-Max final drive, I am getting a little tired of running on the highway at about 4,200 rpm's in 5th. If I had a 6th gear, it would be perfect. So, if I can get my butt motivated in the morning to start on this thing, I hope to have it in soon. Hey, I don't Yamagrl to make me look bad. RandyA
  6. Wow, 4300 pounds, that's a lot of weight. My 72 240Z with a 350 Chevy and 350 Turbo trans weighed 2,590 pounds. Yep, it was fun. I put 156,000 miles on it with a V-8 in it. RandyA
  7. A lot of the 1st genners have moved the trunk back. There was a kit with four brackets shaped like a "Z" kinda that lifted and moved the trunk back two inches. My bike had these on it when I got it and I took them off. When I made the passenger arm rests, I used that bracket and made two more and moved the trunk back about an inch. It is not hard to do. Just remove your trunk and you will see the four mounting points and get some metal strips and figure how far you want it moved. You may have to figure an off set to clear the bolts. RandyA
  8. What is the date code on that tire? RandyA
  9. That's interesting BOO, when I left Chanute, I was off for a week or so and then reported to Seymore Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. About a week later, my son was born in New Bern, NC on August the 14th. RandyA
  10. I was in the dayroom in a barracks at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL, watching a grainy B&W tv. I had about a week to go before finishing tech school and had orders for my base of choice, which was 50 miles from where my wife was living with her parents. I was doing good. As I sat there with several guys, we were in amazement watching Neil Armstrong climb down those steps. It just does not seem like that long ago, but I remember it so clearly. For those that are old enough to remember this, do you remember what you were doing? RandyA
  11. Good idea. I forgot about the hole there. But, we don't want to make it too easy. RandyA
  12. I went to Amsoil years ago and got some leaks I did not have before. I always used Valvoline in everything and now use RotelaT 15 40 diesel oil. It works great and is about the cheapest oil I can find and my bike runs less noisy with Rotela T. RandyA
  13. To me, a V-twin is not a Venture. Yamaha has a great V-4 with the V-Max engine. RandyA
  14. Aren't the rotors on a MKII supposed to float some? RandyA
  15. If you want to check gearing, pull the boot back where the swing arm connects to the engine so you can see the driveshaft. Have someone turn the rear wheel exactly one revolution and if it is stock, the driveshaft will rotate 3 and 1/3 times. If it is a V-Max final drive, the driveshaft will rotate 3 and 2/3 times. This may be a little more difficult on a 2nd gen without a center stand, but this will tell you which final drive you have without doing more. RandyA
  16. On the bar under the right side of the engine there will be a white sticker. It would say 2/84. RandyA
  17. Not sure how close to Cowboy's map you are going, but you are going to be all around me if you go that way. I am in Johnson City, TN and could possibly meet up and ride some and show you some good places to eat. RandyA
  18. I third this. I always try to run mine in the mid range and I have never had my oil level light come on and I do check to see that it works when changing oil. And, this with the bike seeing 8,000rpm's many times. If my oil level is in the lower range, I don't get excited about it. Interesting though that I always run my cars at the top of the range on the dipstick. RandyA
  19. ' This is what I did on my 83/camper. I used a five/six wire connector and used red LED lights for the running and brake and used amber LED lights for the signal lights. To me, this is the easiest way to do it and I don't have to use any converters to mess with. RandyA
  20. You don't have to get it hot enough to melt the plastic. The glue is pliable once it gets warm. I use a flat tip screw driver and will occasionally chip a small piece of the glass lens, but it has never been a problem as it is around the edge where the lip is. This has been when I was too impatient and did not get it warm enough. I started to take some more pictures because another thing I like about this is it is very visible from an angle. Even at a 45 degree angle from the front, these lights are visible. I may also post some pics where I installed a strip on each side under the headlights on my Infiniti. They are really visible, even in the daylight.. RandyA
  21. My opinion is that I would reuse the screws and re-stake them. RandyA
  22. I type just too slow to keep up. That along with ADD does not help. I forget what we were talking about. RandyA
  23. Jeff, do you know what that clocking orientation is supposed to be? I have one slide that is slightly lazier than the rest and that is with good diaphragms and good sync and checked for vacuum leaks. RandyA
