Wanting to start getting parts together for the brake upgrade to MKII forks and R1 calipers. Looking on ebay, there are a lot of R1 calipers available, but is there any particular year calipers that I want? I am also planning on delinking, so what do I need to do about front master? Do I need to go to a 14mm master and if I do, what am I looking for? RandyA

1300 engine problem
Venturous Randy replied to Pete1952's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, first of all, welcome to the forum. Can you give us a little history as in did this happen all at once? How long have you had the bike? Did it lock up while you were riding it? Have you put it on the center stand and moved the rear wheel while trying to shift it? Did you take the round cover off the engine on the left side and put a socket on the nut and try to move the crank? If you put a socket and bar on the crank nut, when crank stops moving, is it sudden stop? OK, here are a few things to think about and maybe we can help out a little better. RandyA -
Wow, you old softy, you. Congradulations Eck and Konnie. RandyA

Your thought process is very interesting on this. Yes, it would be neat to see some "open camping" spots, but I also agree that it may have some legal concerns. Just because you never got nailed for being in a prohibited place does not mean it is an "open camping" area. With some of the camping threads that I have read lately and me getting the Time Out camper, I am getting anxious to put together some camping plans. I am planning on doing some winter projects on the bike that will help in pulling the camper, such as brake upgrades, and I may even drag it around behind the car on ocassion. I may even suggest some M&E&Camping times so if anyone wants to camp together for a day or so, we could do it. RandyA

Many years ago I had a 240Z that I was running about as big a tire that I could get on the back of the car and clear everything. I went to a local tire dealer and he got out his book and the only thing he would talk to me about was the same size that came on the car. It did not matter to him that I was running a warmed over 350 Chevy engine in it and probably needed a bigger tire than I was running. Nope, he knew everything. I bought tires somewhere else. Personally, I have almost always run at least one size larger tire than came on the vehicle. My Infiniti calls for 215-55-17's and I am running 225-60-17's, which are actually two sizes larger. Randy

I just clicked on "my profile" up in the right corner, then "about me", then on "state or province", then scrolled down and clicked on "TN" and then save. It takes just a few seconds to do. RandyA

Things to carry in a motorcycle camper
Venturous Randy replied to CaptainJoe's topic in VentureRider Campers
Great list Joe and very helpful. Just got a Time Out camper, which is a great improvement over the old Travel Lite I have and hope to do more camping this year. One of the frustrations on camping is wet towels. One of the tricks I do is using a good thick wash cloth, when I finish my shower I will rinse my wash clouth real good and then squeeze it as dry as I can and use it as a towel and then squeeze it again. Then, when I am done, I will use a light towel to get dry. This way, I will have a wash cloth and a light towel that will dry easy. RandyA -
Just updated my state. I'm afraid that some will have to be forced to get them to do this. There are even a few that do not want to put a real location. They must be in the witness protection program or something. RandyA

I can sure identify with this one. RandyA LIFE'S BACK NINE. I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK. READ SLOWLY! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is - the ' back nine' of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast ? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember vividly seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that ' I was only on the first hole' and the ' back nine' was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is... My friends are retired and getting grey. They move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant ... But like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore ... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit! And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did! But, at least I know, that though I'm on the ' back nine', and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know for sure, that when it's over on this earth ... it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done ... Things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not on the ' back nine' yet ... Let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you're on the ' back nine' or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life ... So, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember, and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A GREAT DAY Remember, "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LIVE HAPPY IN THE DAYS AND YEARS AHEAD. LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: ~Your kids are becoming you ... But your grandchildren are perfect ~Going out is good...Coming home is better! ~You forget names ...But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you! ~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything ... Esp. golf. ~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore! ~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep". ~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch... ~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?" ... "when?"... " ??? ~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere. ~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"! ~What used to be freckles are now liver spots. ~Everybody whispers. ~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet ... 2 of which you will never wear. ~~~But Old is good in some things ~~~ Old Songs, Old Movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

Did you drag up a five+ year old post to make an HD or GD digging post? Also, the easiest way to edit a post is to use the edit button and not do a repost. RandyA -

Very good puc, it brought back memories with my dad. Mine has been gone 14 years and I still sometimes feel his presence, especially out in the garage. You have been blessed in many ways. RandyA -
I am way past time on upgrading my brakes. I have some MKII lower forks and I am planning on rebuilding the forks and adding better calipers. I am also planning on SS brake lines and probably delinking the brakes. While working on the front end I am also going to redo my head bearings. I already have Progressive springs. I am still not satisfied with the performance of the 30K motor I put in my bike when I took the 170K motor out as the old motor would scream. I need to do the basics like a good compression check and then figure out what to do. I am still playing around with the MKII TCI I put on and yes I changed the boost sensor porting to the manifold from the carb. I need to put my trailer hitch back on and rewire it for the wire connector that is on my Time Out Camper I just got. I would love to pick up an MKII engine in good shape and put the spare RSV transmission in it as I love this combination I have with one in my engine now with the V-Max final drive. Well, that's a start, what do you have planned. RandyA

Another thing to check is the spark plug caps. They have a resistor in them that can get corroded. RandyA
