  1. and what do you think? Randy
  2. Here are four starters on ebay that should be four brush starters. The last one came off a 93, but it is my understanding that the 93 was a four brush and it does not have the screws in the side like a two brush starter. 3. that Huntsville has 8 inches of snow. Is that true? Randy
  4. I have had it come loose a couple of times, but it never went anywhere as the cable held it in place as Max noted. If I put something like Vaseline on the cup, it will last for a long time. It just needs something to keep it airtight. Randy
  5. I would ride it some as it is my understanding the clutch is releasing to some degree, but it is still wanting to pull some. It also may help to start the bike and when it warms up some to just pull the clutch in some and rev the motor. This may also help to get fresh oil between the plates. Whenever I start my bike cold, before I try to put it in 1st gear, I will pull the clutch in and do a few quick revs, not to a lot of RPM's, but like quick jabs. By doing this, it will usually break the clutch plates free and easily slip into gear without the jerk. On your engine rattle, did you ever do a sync on the carbs? This can definitely add to rattle. You also may need to do a good vacuum check to make you are not trying to adjust a carb with a vacuum leak because the vacuum leak becomes part of the airflow balance. Randy
  6. On my 1st gen, I made a plate I attached to the left handlebar that I put the GPS suction cup to. I originally did this because I used the GPS in different vehicles, but now it just stays on the bike. I also converted to the plugin in the cigarette lighter with the USB port and that cleaned up my wiring a lot. Randy
  7. I'm not convinced you actually have a problem. I suspect that you may have some dry clutch plates and they are sticking. Since it appears to be disengaging after it warms up some, before I did anything, I would try to ride it some and see if it gets any better. Randy
  8. I remember being in Ft Lau waiting to get on the ship and went to a huge flea market that was five drive in theaters together. Had some really good deals. Randy
  9. We are doing good on the east side of the state. We were lucky here as when the bad icy weather came east, it started moving northward. Our last two days have been in the upper 40's. Randy
  10. One of the SPRING rituals I look forward to is the Daytona 500 and it is on RIGHT NOW. Randy
  11. I wonder if we will ever see with TV/internet what we have seen with cell phones. I was cleaning off some old e-mails, some going back to 2006 and when I started pulling up some Verizon bills, I was seeing between $150 and $175 every month, with a lot less service than I am getting now, but that was with two phones. Now, with Straight Talk, for what I need, the $30 a month is working fine. I am considering upgrading to a smarter phone and better plan, but that is only about $50. I have had a big round with Comcast after getting an evening sales call and agreeing to an upgrade that was to just cost slightly more. Turned out, it cost A LOT more. I had them take me back to the original plan with some discounts, but it is still way too costly. Being retired, I know what it is like to be on a fixed income and when you get hit with something unexpected, it can hurt. Fortunately for me, I never used tobacco, as many have and it can become a big part of many peoples budget. I wish you the best James and hope you can work something out. Randy
  12. What you described sounds a lot like Bristol, TN/VA where Main street is actually State St with TN on one side and VA on the other side of the street. And, if you go east, you will end up on 421 going thru Shady Valley and the "Snake". Not sure of any town like that on the southern border of TN, but now I will have to go look on Google Maps. Randy
  13. Yeah Eck, I can see some resemblance. Randy
  14. Just snug the nuts down and refill with air and I suspect you will be ok. As suggested, spray some soapy water around it and confirm it is not leaking. I had this problem many years ago before I found a very slow leak. Randy
  15. Ditto to Squidley, with the larger cables, four brush starter and DEKA battery, starting the bike, no matter how hot or cold it is, is no thought at all. Years ago when I got caught in heavy traffic when it was hot, if I stalled the bike, I was going to be pushing it to the side of the road to cool off some. Now, not a thought about that. Randy
  16. Hey puc, I just took a virtual ride on Skaggs Springs road. I went to Google maps and keyed in Stuart Point, CA and it drops you right down in front of the store. From there I moved over to Skaggs Springs Rd, which has the blue highlite and moved along it. It was neat and it did not take long to realize how off the beaten path you were in the forest. It really reminded me of some of the roads here in east TN, western NC. Randy
  17. Hey Dave, glad you found the problem. Now, if you join and also put your bike info under your name, you will be amazed at how much help you will get. Randy
  18. If any wire is getting "hot" you appear to have a load or ground problem to me. Randy
  19. My question is how well are the carbs synced? If the carbs are out of balance at idle it will cause the gears and valve train to pulse more and it can cause rattle. Randy
  20. Still enjoying the ride very much as I sit here with it about 2 degrees outside with a -15 chill factor. Randy
  21. Years ago I was coming up to a stop sign, getting ready to pull out on a highway when the bike died and lost everything. I ended up finding the main fuse in the box next to the starter solenoid had blown. I ended up bypassing the fuse to get home. I got several more fuse strips as spares and never did have a problem with blowing that fuse again. Due to this, later on when I wired up my fog/running lights, I ran them straight from the battery, through a fuse, relay and switch to the lights. Yes, I have to be careful with not leaving the lights on and running the battery down, but if I ever have a main fuse blow, I will still have lights to get off the road. Randy
  22. If going to Progressives, MKI and MKII should be the same. For me, I do not put any preload on the Progressive springs and that brings it up to where the springs are at about where the tube plug will bottom out. With no preload or added air, this still raised my bike an inch or more compared to the old springs and about 10 psi air. Now, with a pretty good load on the bike, it still does not bottom out. Randy
  23. First of all Dave, a big welcome to the forum. We hope you join us and if you do, it will be the best $12 you will EVER spend on your bike. So far, it already looks like you have a great appreciation for these bikes and we like that. It also looks like the two failures you encountered are things that have been covered in great detail here and if you had known, you could have saved yourself some money and frustration. The speedometer failure is usually related to a bearing needing to be greased when it starts squealing and as already noted, the fuse box should be on the top of your priorities to get done. There is a member that sells a very good package here or you can get something from an auto or electronics store. Randy
  24. That's like having TOO MUCH FUN!!! Randy
  25. The two things I have done on my speedometer cable is make sure the ring is on the top end of the cable where it can not come out the bottom and the other thing I did was to put the cable housing through one of the holes near the tripple tree and put a good size plastic wire tie around housing so the cable housing can not fall through the hole. Yes, I have lost cables from both ends at one time over the past 19 years, but not anymore. RandyA
