  1. The thing to keep in mind about radar is it does not read the fastest speed, it reads the strongest signal bounce back. That means that if you are coming toward radar on your bike and you have a big SUV coming up behind you, unless the operator is really paying attention, you may be paying for his ticket, especially if he has a detector and slows down before the operator notices him, especially when the operator is watching you. Many years ago, one of the car magazine did tests on radar and different vehicles and found out that on a non-metallic painted corvette, with the tilted back radiator that covered the engine, the car had to be surprisingly close to get a reading. Whereas, a large truck a half mile away or more gave a reading. We will occasionally have the roadside radar unit set up with the big readout screens and I have come toward them knowing exactly what my speed is and have a much different reading show up and maybe a quick blink of my speed just as I am passing to unit. And, this is without traffic running next to me, but some distance behind me. This is why I run a radar detector on my bike. It is not so I feel I can exceed the speed limit because with instant on radar, I would be more likely to get a ticket. But, if a LEO is running his radar unit a lot, I have a better chance to be aware. As far as the radar units measuring baseballs and hockey pucs, I suspect the sensitivity is much different than what is used for vehicles. A too sensitive reading on the radar unit would probably not give consistent readings out on the highway. Randy
  2. This should be moved to the 1st gen section. Randy
  3. Hey, thanks for the followup. I was wondering what ever happened with your Magnum. It looks good. Randy
  4. Ditto, I have gotten several things from Pinwall and have always done good. It there not a tracking number you can access and see where it is at? Randy
  5. If it was bad and I was not going to use it, I would probably leave it. Those screws to me are hard to get out. As noted, I would just put the replacement on top of the airbox. There is enough wiring available to be moved without adding anything. Randy
  6. Hey Shaggy, welcome to Venturerider and we hope you join us. It will be the best $12 you will ever spend on your bike. Randy
  7. Using contact cleaner spray with one of the little tubes, I will stick the tube up under the rubber dust cover and spray liberally. I will also push the plunger in and let it pop out. This has worked for me. Randy
  8. With 100 being the desired normal, if a person is running a average 200, they can drop to 100 and feel as bad as a normal person dropping to 70. The A1C test will give an indication of what your body has averaged for the last three months. Randy
  9. The reservoir is just above the master that the linkage goes to. The reservoir/master feeds the rear and left front calipers. When you fill and bleed the calipers, make sure you leave some room in the top of the reservoir so when the brakes heat up that they do not lock up. Also, make sure you have an 8mm wrench with you if you need to let some fluid out. Randy
  10. Good to hear from you Squid. I have missed you. I have thought many times about joining one of the local VFW chapters, just haven't done it yet. Randy
  11. Hey Mike, Linda and I would love to ride with you, but our plate is full this weekend. We may get in a little Miata ride Monday with the top down. Randy
  12. My hair is tan, at least the top part anyway. Randy
  13. Key West has been on my bucket list for a long time. One of these days I am going to make it down there. Randy
  14. Hey Dan, this was a nice post to wake up to. I am very happy that you enjoyed Asheville and are still thinking about it. Asheville is probably a little different than most rallies in that it is so laid back and all about just having fun with old friends and new friends. Are you saying you had a "few too many Hiney's" and you are just now remembering Asheville? Randy
  15. I was at Walmart today and Rotella T 15/40 was up to $13,95 from $12.95 earlier. A barrel of oil is half what it was earlier and a gallon of oil goes up. Randy
  16. Did the oak tree fall on it? It looks bent up, what ever it is. Randy
  17. When replacing fork seals, it is very important that you do not damage them when you are sliding the seal down the tube over the groove that holds the circular clip below the air tube connection. What I found that worked for me was simple scotch tape wrapped around the tube. That little groove has a very sharp edge. Inside the lower fork assemble, there are sleeves or guides that the upper tube moves up and down in. If the sleeves are worn out, it will allow the upper fork tube to wallow around some, affecting the handling and the seal life. Randy
  18. When rebuilding forks, you may want to consider replacing the sleeves and that will help the seals last a lot longer. Randy
  19. Many years ago I had a friend that bought one of the two stroke 750 Kawasaki's. He kept talking about how fast the bike was. I ran into him later and asked how his Kaw was doing and he said I got rid of it. After riding it awhile, he decided to do a plug change and realized he had been running on two cylinders. After tuning it up, it scared the crap out of him and he decided that he better let someone else have it. Randy
  20. I hope when you removed the cam caps that you numbered them so they will go back in their original positions. They were linebored with the caps torqued down before the cams were installed Also, the cam on the left does not look like it has a good surface where the cap goes. It may just be the picture. Randy
  21. You need a small sheet metal screw and pick the drill bit in regard to that. When you drill thru the cap, DO NOT drill into the brass screw. Just be very careful when it breaks thru. There is plenty of room, just be careful and don't keep pushing. Randy
  22. It is my understanding that the washer is there just to keep the spring from digging into the rubber part of the filter. My bike also was missing the washer and I had one that fit and was relatively thin and seems to be working fine. Randy
  23. Been to several Vogal's, been to one Maintenance Day and have had several Asheville's and can say that they all have been great experiences and memories. I feel I have been very fortunate to have been involved with this great group of folks. Randy
  24. In early 1968, when I was still 17 and a senior in high school, I found a 58 Corvette that needed some paint and a little interior work, but it was all there, hubcaps and everything. It was a 283 with a Power Glide and the guy had it priced at $800. But instead, I bought a 64 Chevelle Malibu with a 327 and a four speed. I know what you mean about the back seat, I should have named my son Chevelle. Randy
  25. Hey, it's the lots of fluid and chicken noodle soup that is making the snot(it even looks a little like chicken noodle soup). I Hope you two get through it and it can be very serious as many more folks have died from the flu than ebola. Linda and I both have been dealing with colds. I thinking we are passing it back and forth. It also don't help that like today we jumped in the Miata and took a 150 mile ride with the top down just to eat lunch. But, it is a lot of fun. Randy
