Being an 85, I wonder what the last four of the serial number is. Randy
-
Thanks Dion, I ordered two 7"sheets and will let you know if they help. Randy
-
My problem is not just sun shining on the screen, but any reflection, such as a light colored shirt that causes glare. With this glare, a hood will not help much, if any. I was hoping someone would know of a film that can be applied to the screen that would reduce glare, but still let the light from the GPS show through. Randy
-
Yep, I had a weak moment and renewed also. Randy
-
On the GPS on the bike or car, especially the Miata with the top down, it is sometimes just about impossible to see the screen or try to program with all the glare. In trying to do some research, there is a lot out there and different types of film. Most want to sell you a sheet for a particular model GPS and I would like to buy a sheet I can cut up for different sizes an even for the screen on my digital camera. Does anyone have any suggestions on what works for what I want? Randy
-
It was me that got the Miata. In fact, I got another one since and am even looking at a third one. They are kind of like potato chips and 1st gens( have two), ya just can't have one. Yep, this a family and also like Hotel California, you can't leave. Randy

What final drive might I have ?

Keep in mind that these bikes were designed when the national speed limit was 55MPH. The other thing is your tach may read a little off, but most read surprisingly good, unless they are dragging. I good running 1st gen with a V-max rear will be real strong in 1st and 2nd gear, kinda like, hang on for dear life. The standard ratio is 3.30 and the V-Max ratio is 3.67. If you pulled the rear end, and checked revolutions, with the ring gear making one revolution, the stock pinion gear would make 3 and 1/3 and a V-Max would make 3 and 2/3's revolutions. Randy -
The enormous expense of engineering and tooling for the V-Max engine is already done. To make it a great touring engine would not make it that much more costly. Yamaha already has this in place and this would give them an opportunity to step up with the big boys in a spectacular way. There are a lot of Goldwing guys that would like a better option (to them) than a Goldwing that has four or more cylinders, truly water cooled and has plenty of low end grunt. The re-tuned V-Max engine for that purpose would be great. Randy

I learned that if you are on a down slope, make sure you have it in gear before you put the side stand down and try to get off. Randy

It might help if you gave us more info about your bike, like what is it and what do you know about it? A V-Max rear will raise the RPM's about 10% from stock. Randy -

How long has it been since the carbs have been synced? Randy -
Many years ago I had a 300ZX Turbo that was a beautiful car. But after having it for a while, I swore I would never have another black car, unless it was a Buick Grand National. Well, now I have an Infinity and a Miata that are black. For me, I will clean them up and just before I go anywhere, I will rinse the pollen off, which is usually yellow, and take off. The white Miata does not show being dirty nearly as bad as the black one. Randy

I read this to Linda and she said "You are right". Myself, I have never drank a cup of coffee in my life, even with four years in the military. Randy

40 minutes left and still at $2,951. Randy

I have to say that the same thought went thru my mind. There are millions and millions of people that live in Tornado Alley that have never seen a tornado. Randy
-
Since most all very well built homes will not survive a direct hit from a tornado, it does not necessarily make a lot of difference. What's the difference in people building near the coast and loosing everything to a hurricane and then rebuilding? It comes down to "you pays your money and you takes your chances". Randy Edit: one picture I will never forget about a tornado was where a tornado crossed a field, then a paved highway and when it crossed the highway, it took the pavement with it. I don't think ANY dwelling above ground would survive that.

Evidently, you did not yesterday's post. Randy http://www.venturerider.org/forum/watering-hole/100188-fbi-gang-list.html -
In my 20 years messing with 1st gens, I have never seen Jardines that are slashcut. I have had Jardines on my bike for about 17 years and they are a more throaty sound, probably a little louder than before. My best description of the sound is more like a small block Chevy engine with glasspacks or turbo mufflers. They do not have that "tuner car" sound. I have been paying attention to your posts and have even talked to you on the phone and the one thing that you keep bringing up is that you do not like high reving engines. I am not sure what you mean about high revs with an engine, whether it is 5,000 RPM's or 10,000 RPM's. If you are one of those people that think 5,000 RPM's is high reving, I don't think you are going to be happy with your 1st gen Venture and I don't think your Venture is going to be happy with you. These engines were built to be run at higher RPM's and if you ride it like a V-twin, you will probably be much more happy with a V-twin. The engine I pulled from my 83 had about 165,000 miles on it and I can not imagine how many times it saw 8,000 RPM's. These engines were built for higher RPM's and they were NOT built to be lugged around. These engines do not start producing decent torque until about 4,000 RPM's and I am afraid that to you, that is high RPM's Randy

Ignition woes Part Duex
Venturous Randy replied to flyday58's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Anytime you have weak cylinder, it may be electrical or fuel. I have had corroded resistors in spark plug caps that did weird things. I also have had carbs so out of sync that one cylinder was not getting any gas at idle and had to be opened up to get warm. How is your carb sync? Randy -
LAST DAY OF WINTER. Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spring arrives at 6:45 EDT tomorrow. Randy

Are you talking about the small nylon roller that is on the shaft? On every Venture I have seen, the cable is routed on the underside of the roller from the cable housing to the connection point and is in constant contact with the roller. Maybe I am misunderstanding, as I am not familiar with the nylon spacer you are talking about. Randy -
This is from an earlier post getting a switch for my lawnmower. This is why I use Paypal or a credit card on internet purchases. I never use my debit card as you have much better protection with a credit card. I finally got the switch a couple days after the last entry. The post office where it originated had transposed two numbers on the zip code.
