I thought this thread was about tipping over my bike, which I have done several times in the last 21 years. I was hoping I would learn something. Randy

Now, that would be a hoot. It is also neat where they have used the old car theme on the front end. It is a shame that Yamaha couldn't do something like Megasquirt has with Fuel Injection. Randy

Slipping clutch
Venturous Randy replied to phonetrouble's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
His 84 should have the 6 clutch springs and they are easy to replace with stiffer ones. The clutch starting to engage while stopped sounds to me like the master cylinder is leaking internally and not holding pressure. All the other suggestions are good too. I have been running the Rotella T 15/40 and it works good in mine. Randy -
Freebird's Maintenance Day - Do we want to do it?
Venturous Randy replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
We have the same issue with Asheville where the pace picks up a lot near the end and have always had a pretty good turnout. We do Asheville every other year opposite of Vogal and that has worked out good. I had missed a couple of Vogal events and really enjoyed it last year as it was a lot more laid back like Asheville. Sometimes, less is more on putting together a big event. Linda and I are hoping to take a trip towards the west this year and if we do we will be pulling the Time Out camper with the Miata. We have also talked about the possibility of going to MD this year, but right now I really can not commit on anything. I have been once and it was a great adventure and would like to go again. Warning to those in NC or those thinking of visiting NC.....
Venturous Randy replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
Yesterday, Linda and I did a ride over into NC that brought us by Marion all the way to Asheville on 70. We also rode by the KOA where our rally will be and we also ate at Okie Dokie BBQ which was very good. When we were coming home and turned up I26 toward TN, there was a bit of traffic and I was in the left lane running about 10 over the 55 mph speed limit. When it finally opened up a little I was able to move over into the right lane and a NC State Trooper when whizzing by. There had been a red car in front of me that was now in front of the Trooper. I gave it a little distance then fell in behind the Trooper and we gradually got up to about 80mph in now what is a 60mph speed limit. The red car stayed in the left lane for several miles and then went to the right lane without giving a signal and turned. The Trooper went a couple more miles and he turned off the interstate. I kept thinking he was going to light up the red car, but it was about 6:30pm and I told Linda he must have been on the way home for supper. We were in the Miata and at that speed, there is only 1 mph difference with the speedometer and the GPS. Randy -
OK, got an older Compaq Presario CQ56 with Win 7 home premium Have paid for version of Malwarebytes Have No Script due to constant scrip problem I had. Have ccleaner that worked great other than having to reinstall passwords on many programs. Currently running Firefox due to problems with Internet Explorer. I don't have Norton. Will any of this stuff still work and will I need it with Win10? Thanks, Randy

Well I tried the suggestion of using Peanut butter on my plastic
Venturous Randy replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
Peanut butter is about the only thing that my dishwasher will not take off. If I don't wipe the knife clean before the dishwasher, there is still peanut butter on it. Randy -
Do you have home owners insurance? If you do they will clean up the mess and probably paint the inside of your house for you. Randy

If you look around, especially on the expanded Craigslist searches, you will see these small campers crop up occasionally. I found one that a guy listed that he was having in his yard sale the next day and I sent him an email as it was about midnight and he gave me a call the next morning. It was a Time Out Camper that he had bought at an estate auction and used a couple of times and then stored it. Made a quick trip down to Spring City, NC, which is just south of Myrtle Beach and got it for $600. I pulled my 4x8 trailer down as I did not want to worry about lights or bearings. The only downside was he did not give me a title, but I was able to run it through TN with getting a basic evaluation of value and paid taxes on that and now it is legal. We don't require tags on trailers less than 16 feet here in TN, but I wanted one. I checked and re-greased the bearings and lights and it is in very good shape. I have pulled it with my Miata and that worked very good. The Time Out Camper weighs a bit less, at about 350 pounds than the old Travelite camper that I pulled with my 83 Venture. I also picked up a brand new 5,000 BTU A/C for $60 that fits perfect in the side of it. I have since made a better stand for the A/C. The best way to think about something like this is buy something good, use it and take care of it and then sell it for what you paid for it or even more when you are not using it anymore. I will try to include some pics when we first set it up. It is made for a queen size mattress and everything is at least a foot off the ground. Randy

Had a very nice day today with a couple good freinds..
Venturous Randy replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
Hummm, did you have to streak to get in? Sorry, couldn't help it. Randy -
did you buy gas at while it was down? I bought Shell reg at $1.38.9 I wonder if I will ever buy gas that low in my lifetime. Randy

If you are thinking about TN, may I suggest the NE corner of TN. The Tri-City area of Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol has a lot to offer. I like Johnson City better and it has a large Veterans center, ETSU, which is a medical collage and I think it is listed that we have about 360 places to eat. We are also very close to some of the greatest riding you can ride anywhere. Randy

Today is supposed to be about 65 and the rest of the week is supposed to be in mid 70's here in NE TN. Randy

The best thing to do on the loose center stand is remove the spring and remove the long "C" shape bracket that connects to the spring. Then use a vice and hold the bracket so you can bend the bracket slightly to reduce the distance between the holes. Then, when you reinstall it the spring will be stretched and be much tighter. Randy

If you look at both videos, it is obvious the biker pulled up beside the truck in a non-existent lane to where the trucker could not see him in his mirror. Then the trucker decided to turn right. If you look at the second video that is noted in the comments, it looks like the biker had time to move before the truck hit him. I think the biker is lucky he did not get his kid killed. There is another video that shows a few seconds more of the kid getting out. Randy

Just when you think spring has sprung......
Venturous Randy replied to KeithR's topic in Watering Hole
Keep in mind that the Blizzard of 93 was on March 15th. El Nino may or may not help this. Many called this the storm of the century. Randy -
I stopped by the DMV office with my original birth certificate and proof of residence and was told they would not accept the original embossed copy of my birth certificate with my original feet prints on it as I had to go by the health department and get a copy from them. The lady also told me that if I had my DD214 with Honorable Discharge notation that it would save me about $70. So, I am going to look some more and probably order one if I don't find it as I need it anyway. Randy
-
I'm afraid my problem is I put it up some where that I would not loose it. Randy
-
I know a lot on here have no idea what a DD214 is but it is the official document that shows your military discharge and status of the discharge, such as honorable to dishonorable. It is one of those documents that you should never loose. The reason I am looking for it at this time is I just completed the training class for my conceal carry permit and if you have that document when you apply through the state, then there are some fees that are waved. Probably not a lot, but every bit helps. I did find my birth certificate along with a lot of military documents from basic thru tech school to base reassignments, along with various schools completed. One of the things that jumped out to me is on any document such a load manifest, where a bunch of troops were reassigned together, or promoted together, or put on a plane together as a group, all had their Social Security numbers noted on that piece of paper. Now, this was back in 69 to 73 when they also stenciled your SS number on your duffle bag along with your name. Actually, when I enlisted in Jan 69, we were assigned a service member number, but I believe later on that was just changed to your SS number. Man, how times have changed. Well, enough rambling. I can look some more or pay the entire fee now, or I can apply for a replacement DD214, which I should have available anyway. Randy

I remember Don mentioning installing the auto-saved feature, but I never figured what good it was if there was not an icon to recall what had been auto-saved. Other than ctrl+Z, can there be an icon installed to do the same thing? Randy
-
OK, I just typed some text and waited until the Auto-saved note popped up and then highlited the text and deleted it. I then hit Ctrl+Z and it magically came back. WOW and thank you so much. I just hope it works when it does the delete on its own. Yeah, I know I have a problem with the "nut behind the keyboard" as that is my biggest problem. Randy
