  1. Isn't there a little "C" clip on the shaft that you have to remove? Just because the plastic connector is fried does not mean the stator is damaged. Most of us just bypass the connector and solder the wires together because this is a common failure. Randy
  2. My grandson is at the hospital right now with his wife in labor with a girl. This will be my third great grand daughter. I need a boy to carry on the name. Randy
  3. A good headlight on a bike is a great safety feature while riding in the daytime. On a bright sunny day, or even cloudy, I always run my headlight on high beam unless I am riding behind another rider. Randy
  4. It was me that mowed over my phone. I now use Straight Talk with an Android 5G phone and use Verizon towers. It costs $45 a month plus tax of about $5. It works good for me and has Wifi, internet and is a lot smarter than I am. Randy
  5. On my 83 MKI with a MKII headlight assembly and have upgraded to a Royale clutch side electricals, I use the push-to-talk button. I use an aftermarket opener assembly that wires into the push button on the door. I mounted the opener with velcro on the inside of the fairing and wired thru the PTT button and it is easy to get to and works good. Randy
  6. My most enjoyable one was smokin a Big Dog Harley...twice. Man, was he pissed. Randy
  7. I want to also extend a welcome and the best bang for the buck is joining this group. It will be the best $12 you will ever spend on your bike and we come along for free. Randy
  8. If it is the rear shock, I must say that this shock has proven to be extremely dependable over the long run as compared the the 2nd gen rear shock. The only dependable thing about the 2nd gen shock is that they will fail. This sounds more like a broken frame problem to me than a shock problem and this would be the first broken frame I have heard about on anything other than an 83. I don't understand the rear frame dragging on a shock with no air pressure. As bad as this was, it could have been worse. If this had occurred at speed in a curve, you may not have been here writing this. Randy
  9. This needs to be moved to the 1st gen section. Randy
  10. Also, please note what year your bike is when asking a question as sometimes it does matter. I found that when I start my 83 that with it running at idle, if I pull the clutch in and blip the throttle, it will usually break the clutch loose where it is sticking and will go into gear without jumping. Randy
  11. It's not any good anymore. At one time you could go back and see what the weather was many years ago in your town. Not now. You could full screen and zoom in. I was just curious if anyone else had been using weatherspark and what were they now getting. Randy
  12. Weatherspark has been my go to for a quick look at the weather and especially looking at rain. It also showed current temps all around the country and around the world. Well, it looks like Weatherspark is no longer like it was. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this. Randy
  13. Given how crappy the weather has been down here it could have been a miserable trip. We had snow on the mountains here in NE TN this week. Randy
  14. Thanks, when I pulled it up I did not realize the pic were not there. Yep, this one really needs the pictures. Mine did not have any rust either from the inside or outside. My suspicion is there were just poor welds. I originally posted this on the venturers site before I left there and you can pull it up without being a member(I just did). This still has the pictures if Don can not restore my original post pictures here. There should not be any proprietary issues here as it was MY post from the beginning but, if we can restore the pictures, we can delete the noted reference. 15. There is a bunch of B&S cams on ebay if you know the part # Randy
  16. Don's coming to his senses. Randy
  17. Yes, the broken frame is an 83 problem and it can be fixed and be much stronger than before. This is what I did and could probably be easier than I did, but this worked for me. Randy http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1521-83-Broken-frame
  18. I really enjoyed reading this story on the SR-71. Randy http://oppositelock.kinja.com/favorite-sr-71-story-1079127041
  19. Did you make it into north east TN? Randy
  20. Wow, very interesting road. It shows a 5 and half hour drive and I suspect at the end of that you feel like you have done a days work. I did the Google street view on part of it, but the NW part is not documented. What were you driving, your truck? Randy
  21. Just "Making memories" Randy
  22. I still have my 83, but when Linda and I had the talk about her safety comfort level on the bike, we talked about options and we ended up with two Miatas. We have absolutely had a blast with them and to be honest, at this point in my life I am not that comfortable on the bike either. I may be giving my 83 to my son, who has an 86 that he has never gotten running right and my grandson also has an 83. I have ridden a little solo, but I really miss hearing her thru the intercom. But, the last thing I ever want to do is hurt her on the bike. Randy
  23. If I remember correctly, you pull the clutch rod out and hook something in the inside of the seal and pop it out. I changed mine and I don't remember it being a big deal. Biggest problem is getting back to it. To put in a new one, you may be able to use the clutch rod as a guide and a deep well socket to knock it back in. Randy
  24. Thanks for posting this. This is one of those videos that will cause you to spend a while progressing through the other similar videos that keep popping up. Even though I had seen this video before, it still gives me chills to watch it again. What is so amazing about this video is with it being in a airport setting, it is hard to believe how many people just ignored it, but it does appear that many were focused on the incoming passengers. Again, thanks for posting it, it made my morning. Randy
  25. The text message: Hi Bob, This is Alan next door. I’m sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make to you. I've been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at least now telling in text as I can’t live with myself a moment longer without you knowing. The truth is, I have been sharing your wife, day and night when you're not around. In fact, probably more than you, particularly in the mornings after you've left for work. I haven’t been getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse I know. The temptation was just too much....I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. I promise that it won't happen again. Regards, Alan. The actions: Bob, feeling anguished and betrayed, immediately went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife twice, killing her instantly. He returned to the lounge where he poured himself a stiff drink and sat down on the sofa. He took out his phone to respond to the neighbor's text and saw he had another message. The reply: Hi Bob, This is Alan next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last text, I expect you worked it out anyway, but as I’m sure you noticed, my predictive text changed ‘WiFi’ To ‘Wife’. Technology hey?!? Hope you saw the funny side of that. Regards, Alan.
