  1. From all I know, the biker may have been run off the road by a truck. They do seem to show up on 129 occasionally. RandyA
  2. My choke lever is the slide type under the handlebar assy. RandyA
  3. Like I said, isn't it great? You will never feel the same about the bike, now that you have become intimate with it. RandyA
  4. We had an incident on the local news this morning where a local driver got tired of having a woman tailgating him so he evidently took some kind of issue with it. Later, the woman and her husband showed up at his house. The guy pulls a gun and fires off a warning shot and now he is in jail. Sometimes, the best thing to do is just get away from these crazy people. Sooner or later someone will take care of it and it won't be you in jail. I know I can even surprise myself at how mad I can get at other stupid drivers. RandyA
  5. It's not if, it's when you will drop it...Been there, done that. RandyA
  6. Get an insulated cup with a flip top and a holder that goes on a bicycle. RandyA
  7. Thank you Rocket, I was beginning to think I was the only one. Have you ridden one with the push in type? To me they are much easier. I have to keep mine greased to work easy. RandyA
  8. Thanks Neil, that is the info I am looking for. I have an 83 Owner's Manual, I think I will see what it says. Maybe only a few of them got the push down version and I am interested if anyone else will note if they have the push down version? RandyA
  9. On my 83, to manually cancel the signal lights, I have to push down on the button. On Squidleys 86 that I rode, to manually cancel, I pushed the button in. This was the same as my 79 850 Special I had before the Venture. I like the push style much better. I did not remember to look closely at squid's bike to see if it is the same basic set up as my Standard 83 with his being a Royale. I know there is more controls above it that I don't have, but I forgot to look at how they attached. When was the changeover on this and what will fit mine with the "push in cancel"? My auto cancel works, sometimes I like to cancel quicker. RandyA
  10. One note on the shifter linkage is there is a little tick mark on each connection on the splined shafts that indicates where the split goes. If you look for the mark and put it at the split, you should be correct. RandyA
  11. Yep, I also second what buddy said. Pull your seat off and tighten the wire ends and I bet it will fix your problem. RandyA
  12. Must have been one he** of a bump. RandyA
  13. My 83 used to spin while engine running and in neutral while on the center stand. Since I replaced gearset, it does not do that any more. RandyA
  14. Hey, thanks for posting this oz. You made an interesting statement about being intimate with your bike. This really does happen when you get into it like you did. You now feel a lot closer to the bike than ever before. Good luck with it and enjoy the wide open throttle runs thru 2nd gear. RandyA
  15. I guess you would call it "syncronizer resistance". As mraf said, it all about rpm's and matching them. RandyA
  16. I second that. We always have to pretend that we are invisible and then, on top of that, we must make ourselves as visible as possible. It is a helpless feeling when someone does something like that right in front of you and you can't do a thing to prevent what is going to happen. RandyA
  17. Laura and I took a 150 mile ride Sunday after filling up. I put 10 more on way to work and back and filled up and got 44.5. That is a little better than usual, but only about 20 miles of ride was 65 mph. The rest was 40 to 55 mph. RandyA
  18. Off ramps and on ramps? RandyA
  19. Dano, it looks like you are doing great. Sounds like you know what you are doing. It is not really that difficult, but you do need to pay attention to what you are doing and it looks like you are. Did you ever find a 1/8 inch radius gage? When you get finished with this project and are able to scream through the gears, you will feel so good about it. And, you will have a feeling of closeness with your bike you never had before. RandyA
  20. Todd, you have made a very good point here. When I first looked at my bike the PO had moved it around in his yard and tipped it over, pushing the right engine guard back aginst the elbow, cracking it. He had it replaced and later on I did the same thing, but it did not crack and leak. What I did then was take the right engine guard off and ground off the sharp edge that is close to the elbow. I did this because it gave it more room in that area and I did not want a minor tip over causing me to be out of commision in the middle of nowhere when it did not have to happen. Now I have at least 1/2 inch between the guard and the elbow. RandyA
  21. Laura and I took about a 130 mile ride down thru the country. It was about 70 degrees and absolutely beautiful. Many trees are budding out and there was so much color and the air was absolutely clear. It was like a moving postcard. The is the first ride in a while that was any miles at all and the bike ran great. We must have passed well over 200 bikes. we saw several groups that had at least 35 to 40 bikes. Even most of the Harley guys waved. RandyA
  22. Thanks for letting me know that you have the side panels. I would have thought that I would have noticed they were gone when we met up, but is was cold and we were more focused on getting unloaded and reloaded. Anyway, I feel better and did have a beautiful 150 mile ride on an early spring day with trees and things budding out everywhere and rolling green fields. RandyA
  23. Ok 2nd gen guys, get ready, something fell off a 1st gen. Well, it appears that when I towed Brad's bike to meet him, I may have lost both side panels. They were very snug when snapped in place, but due to having the seat off and the top tab not being held in place by the seat, they must have blown off, because when he got home, they were gone. It also appears that the way he put his straps on that it would have held the side panels in place if they were on when he strapped it down. I have offered him a spare set I have that are painted purple, but I would like to see if we can find some black ones first. So, let us go on a treasure hunt and see if we can find some black ones for him. Thanks, RandyA
  24. Well, I just went out in the garage and looked real good for the side panels I knew I put on your bike and I could not find them. I am sure when I left here that everything except the seat was installed and given the way you put the straps on it is apparent the side panels must not have been on it when I delivered it to you. So, they must be somewhere in Kentucky. The only thing I can figure, given how tight they snapped in place, is without the seat being in place to catch the top tab on the side panels, they must have blown off. Now, given this, we can go on a group treasure hunt to see if we can find you a set of black ones like came on the bike or I will send you my spare set that are painted purple that you can repaint. Or another option on paint is to paint the rest of your bike to match the purple side panels(it would look good). I will probably never use them as I like the bikini set I have on now. Either way, we will get you some side panels. I guess I learned something here about towing with the seat off and not taking the side panels off also. I guess i have seen the light on this one. Anyway, we will get you some side panels by the time you are ready to ride. How does that saying go? "No good deed goes unpunished" RandyA
  25. This brought up memories of my hot rod Chevelle. I always kept a Holly hammer close by. RandyA
