  1. Good point. Carl, how does it idle with the sync tool hooked up? Also, recheck your plugs on the YICS ports. I had a plug that split. Try running it with the Jason mod off and ends plugged and see how that does. RandyA
  2. I know that when I put the Avons on my 83 and did a 100mph run, it was scary. I was running 50psi with the tire hot and reduced it to mid 40's hot. It was also interesting that Richard had just put Avons on his later model 1st gen and when we were talking about the Avons, we were both having the same symptoms. I know there are several on here that have stated that their Avons handle great at speed, but there have also been many on here that have expressed concern with the Avons at speed. I have strengthened my frame with extra bracing. I have new front and rear wheel bearings. My swing arm bearings have been cleaned and re-greased and are snug. My rear suspension shock link has grease fittings installed and I keep them greased. I still feel there is something unique to the 1st gen and Avons. RandyA
  3. Why do think it does not have a title? Did I miss something? RandyA
  4. Well. given that it was announced a week or so ago that one of the top oil executives just received a $18,000,000 bonus on top of his salary, somebody has got to pay for it. RandyA
  5. Carl, I have stated several times that I love the way my Avons handle on my 1st gen, as long as I don't get over 80mph. And, 100mph is scary as he**. I have had several sets of Dunlops, Metzlers and now Avons. Nothing has been as good and bad as the Avons. I am posting a thread I did a while back about my experience. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10048&highlight=100mph+wobble Also, if you do a search, you will find that many of us have had a problem with the high speed wobble with the Avons on our 1st gens. I may have to give mine anther try now that I have some miles on them and some worn flat spot on the rear, as Rocket suggested. RandyA
  6. From all I know, the biker may have been run off the road by a truck. They do seem to show up on 129 occasionally. RandyA
  7. My choke lever is the slide type under the handlebar assy. RandyA
  8. Like I said, isn't it great? You will never feel the same about the bike, now that you have become intimate with it. RandyA
  9. We had an incident on the local news this morning where a local driver got tired of having a woman tailgating him so he evidently took some kind of issue with it. Later, the woman and her husband showed up at his house. The guy pulls a gun and fires off a warning shot and now he is in jail. Sometimes, the best thing to do is just get away from these crazy people. Sooner or later someone will take care of it and it won't be you in jail. I know I can even surprise myself at how mad I can get at other stupid drivers. RandyA
  10. It's not if, it's when you will drop it...Been there, done that. RandyA
  11. Get an insulated cup with a flip top and a holder that goes on a bicycle. RandyA
  12. Thank you Rocket, I was beginning to think I was the only one. Have you ridden one with the push in type? To me they are much easier. I have to keep mine greased to work easy. RandyA
  13. Thanks Neil, that is the info I am looking for. I have an 83 Owner's Manual, I think I will see what it says. Maybe only a few of them got the push down version and I am interested if anyone else will note if they have the push down version? RandyA
  14. On my 83, to manually cancel the signal lights, I have to push down on the button. On Squidleys 86 that I rode, to manually cancel, I pushed the button in. This was the same as my 79 850 Special I had before the Venture. I like the push style much better. I did not remember to look closely at squid's bike to see if it is the same basic set up as my Standard 83 with his being a Royale. I know there is more controls above it that I don't have, but I forgot to look at how they attached. When was the changeover on this and what will fit mine with the "push in cancel"? My auto cancel works, sometimes I like to cancel quicker. RandyA
  15. One note on the shifter linkage is there is a little tick mark on each connection on the splined shafts that indicates where the split goes. If you look for the mark and put it at the split, you should be correct. RandyA
  16. Yep, I also second what buddy said. Pull your seat off and tighten the wire ends and I bet it will fix your problem. RandyA
  17. Must have been one he** of a bump. RandyA
  18. My 83 used to spin while engine running and in neutral while on the center stand. Since I replaced gearset, it does not do that any more. RandyA
  19. Hey, thanks for posting this oz. You made an interesting statement about being intimate with your bike. This really does happen when you get into it like you did. You now feel a lot closer to the bike than ever before. Good luck with it and enjoy the wide open throttle runs thru 2nd gear. RandyA
  20. I guess you would call it "syncronizer resistance". As mraf said, it all about rpm's and matching them. RandyA
  21. I second that. We always have to pretend that we are invisible and then, on top of that, we must make ourselves as visible as possible. It is a helpless feeling when someone does something like that right in front of you and you can't do a thing to prevent what is going to happen. RandyA
  22. Laura and I took a 150 mile ride Sunday after filling up. I put 10 more on way to work and back and filled up and got 44.5. That is a little better than usual, but only about 20 miles of ride was 65 mph. The rest was 40 to 55 mph. RandyA
  23. Off ramps and on ramps? RandyA
  24. Dano, it looks like you are doing great. Sounds like you know what you are doing. It is not really that difficult, but you do need to pay attention to what you are doing and it looks like you are. Did you ever find a 1/8 inch radius gage? When you get finished with this project and are able to scream through the gears, you will feel so good about it. And, you will have a feeling of closeness with your bike you never had before. RandyA
  25. Todd, you have made a very good point here. When I first looked at my bike the PO had moved it around in his yard and tipped it over, pushing the right engine guard back aginst the elbow, cracking it. He had it replaced and later on I did the same thing, but it did not crack and leak. What I did then was take the right engine guard off and ground off the sharp edge that is close to the elbow. I did this because it gave it more room in that area and I did not want a minor tip over causing me to be out of commision in the middle of nowhere when it did not have to happen. Now I have at least 1/2 inch between the guard and the elbow. RandyA
