Fuel Tank Removel?
Venturous Randy replied to Dakota's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One suggestion; if bike is on center stand, run a wire or cable from center stand to front of engine area so stand can not collapse while you are tugging on things. RandyA -
Need Clutch Install Advise
Venturous Randy replied to RidingArk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Squeeze, you do a real good job on your translations. Being from the south(USA), I have a problem understand many notherners, especially up the east coast. I can not imagine being from Germany and trying to do it. RandyA -
Carb Exchange
Venturous Randy replied to Dakota's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 83 carbs have a different pickup for the vacuum point. I also hear that the vacuum sensor is different and the TCI is different because of this. Not real sure on the TCI. RandyA -
We have a guy that occasionally shows up at our local Sat night cruise-in that has a a Fiero GT with a Cadillac North Star engine in it. It looks like a factory installation it looks so good. All he will say is it is "pretty quick". RandyA

My first real car was a 64 Chevelle, 327 4 speed when I was 17 (1968). Great car, got me thru High School, four years in the military and two years of my 1st job after service. I wish I had kept it. After I built a pretty strong 327 with 11.5 TRW pistons, L-79 cam, Aluminum intake with a big Holly, headers, a 4:10 posi 12 bolt and more, it could hold it's own with many 396 Chevelles. RandyA

Thanks so much for the comments guys. As far as the tape, it would take a court order to get and I really don't need it. I spent at least an hour yesterday with the police officer that is working on this. My Allstate agent called me and stated that she has been on the phone with State Farm, the noted agent for Mr redneck, and something is not jiving on the policy number. The police report noted the drivers name, but not the owner of the truck. It gave the truck tag number, but the State Farm agent could access that and the policy number did not match anything. So, I go back to the Police Stations and talk the the records people and they call the Officer that wrote it up( who I found out was at the Honda shop when she called him). He comes back to the Police Station and we had a great visit. He told me about his visit with the "perpetrators"( how do you like that?) and how things changed when he told them it was on video. He said at first the driver told him she had misplaced her drivers license and then admitted she was driving on a suspended license, which turned out to be for not paying a ticket. Redneck could not find his insurance card, but did come up with a sheet of paper where it looked like he was paying it monthly, and was within two days of expiring. The officer wondered about the policy number, which did seem a bit longer than normal, but it did look legit. He gave me the guys full name and his last two addresses. The officer, who was getting ready to take three weeks off, told me that if there were any problems with State Farm and the policy number, that to let him know and when he got back he would personally go by the noted State Farm agent and talk to them. As I said, we had a great visit and talked about things like the strobes I am using in my headlight and the ones in the brake light system, which he liked, but cautioned me about using them while up in Virginia. He also liked my loud air horns. I asked what he was going to be doing on his vacation and he stated he was going to try to do some riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway on his( and ya got to love this) "Purple" Goldwing. So, if you see a purple Goldwing on the BRP and especially if his helmet is off, as he is very bald, say hey for me, but be careful, he will talk your leg off. RandyA

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense
Venturous Randy replied to royalstarjac's topic in Watering Hole
There is a lot we can all learn from what we already know from this story. This would be a real good time to set down with our young drivers and others(spouses?) and explain very carefully that when there is some type of incident with someone that you don't know, do not use your middle finger to make a point. It can make a situation much worse. If you feel you are in some state of danger from another driver and you have a cell phone, call 911 immediately. Then use the 911 advise to get to a safe place. Remember, the phone conversation is recorded and can be used in court. Be respectful of other drivers and their space, even give a little if you can avoid an encounter that could cause contact. Being a kind and courteous driver does not mean you are weak, it just shows that you are a bit smarter, not smarta$$. Now, I know that everything that I have said is just common sense, but have you really sat down, and especially with your young drivers, and very clearly made these points? If you have not, then you really need to take the time to talk about it and using this event and showing them how things escalate, could possibly save their life or even you a lot of money. After the horrible tragedy of Gary and Leslie, I sat down with my 16 year old grandson, whose also rides a street bike, and we talked about all aspects of the event, both from a riders perspective and from a drivers perspective. We also talked about the girls "perceived" thinking that she saw a signal light. In regard to that, I explained that even if he really did see a signal light blinking, that only really means the bulb is working. Folks, let us try to make a positive out of these tragedies an spend the time to talk to our loved ones and even apply it to ourselves. Thanks, royalstarjac for keeping us posted on this. RandyA -
Because that is just the way it is and we condone it. RandyA

I have not spent any time taking a real good look at how much damage the bike received, but just a quick once over is telling me it is worse than a cracked fairing. I did notice the other day that my headlight cover was crooked and I am now figuring out why. When I took the bike for a ride this evening, I felt something rubbing the steering. When I took a closer look, I noticed that the grills on each side of the ignition switch cover are way off to one side and the dash assembly is off also. Evidently, this bike hit the pavement so hard that it has bent the frame assembly that holds the fairings and dash in place. What probably made it worse was having the back end of the bike up on the curb and shifting much more weight on to the fairing. I don't have the 83 dash/fairing frame assembly on this bike as I upgraded to the 86 up when I changed my headlight assembly. RandyA

Will be interesting to see what happens next year, and especially after a lousy year due to less 'Visators' due to the economy. __________________ You hit that nail on the head because there are going to be a lot of people rethinking their vacation plans due to the cost of everything. I was in Pigeon Forge about a month ago and the real cheap room rates that usually pop up on outside banners on Sunday afternoon were up all weekend. Given this area is about 5 hours from MB, it is a big vacation spot for families that want to get away from the mountains every year. This year many are staying home. BTW, the "Visa" thing was neat and very true, sleeperhawk. RandyA

I stopped and had a good visit with my Allstate agent on the way home after stopping by the police station and getting an already corrected copy of the report. We talked about the whole nasty saga so far and the agent could not believe the attitude I was hit with from the company I work for and the HR Mgr on the video tape. I gave them a copy of the report and some pictures I had printed out with the bike laying on it's side. The agent advised me that they would be contacting State Farm, redneck's insurance, and we would go from there. The agent also stated that she felt there should not be any problems with coverage from State Farm and the suspended license problem, and if there were, my uninsured motorist coverage should kick in(which I almost wish would happen and let Allstate fight it out with State Farm). I advised the agent that my concern was State Farm wanting to total the bike due to the cost of repair. I also advised her that it could cost as much as $2,000 to duplicate the paint job on the bike(she was familiar with the painter that the local Harley shop uses on custom painting brand new Harleys for high dollar customers). So, I guess at this time we will wait around for the next chapter. I do want to say that I really do appreciate the nice comments on this bike in the other Hit and Run threads and also for all the advise and comments in general. RandyA

Basically, it does not have to be Hit and Run if it is determined that she did it "unknowingly" but took credit for it after she was aware it happened, such as the video showing she did it. As far as me illegally parking, I noted in the earlier post that the LEO made a mistake and is having that changed. I was just writing this as it was happening. RandyA

Not only an antique, but a customized antique that was featured as the bike in the VentureRider's January issue of their inaugral 2007 calender. It's got to be worth a lot just for that alone. RandyA

With the police report charging her with improper backing and driving on a suspended license, I am not going to pursue anything about getting the video from the company and it would be a big fight anyway. I think just me telling the LEO that I saw the video and him telling the woman was enough, so I think it did help. I know some of you 2nd genners would watch the tape of a 1st gen getting knocked over repeatedly so I won't entice you with that. At this point I am not sure what to do. Do I contact State Farm, redneck's insurance that is noted on the police report or what? They may get hinky about it because he was letting his girl friend drive it with a suspended license. This is a first for me and hope the last time I have to deal with it. But, I think the saga is just starting. Also, on the police report it was changed to not be hit and run. RandyA

I stopped by the police station today at lunch and picked up a copy of the report. It does have her as hitting the bike and she was noted as improper backing. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license, go figure. This is all well and good but on my vehicle it was noted that I was parked illegally. This is a city street in front of where I work with no restrictions in that area. The only thing I can think that might be an issue at this point was I was parked at an angle to the curb, not perpendicular, but at about a 30 degree angle. I mainly do this because this street, as most, is sloped downward and I am more confortable with the stance of the bike on the side stand. Just got a call back from the Police Officer and I told him I was confused and what was I doing to be parked illegally? He said you were not parked illegally. I said the report says that. He then goes into this tirade about using these little PDA's to do reports on. He then stated that he would get it corrected and then I could pick up another copy. WHEW!!! So, I am about back to square one on dealing with an insurance company and should be without having to deal with the company and the video. What a roller coaster ride so far. BTW, as I noted earlier, this guy rides a Goldwing. He also noted on the report that the damage was under $400. Yeah. RandyA

Well, I called our Human Resource Department to ask about getting a copy of the video tape showing the truck hitting my bike and was told that I may not get a copy of it. I was told that since the incident happened in the city street and not on company property that they had no obligation to share the video tape with me and did not want to get involved. I would have to wait until the Director of Human Resources got back and ask him. During this conversation I told her that I had seen the tape and it was very obvious that the truck hit my bike. She demanded to know which person in Security allowed me to view the tape as she was going to take issue with them. It caught me so off guard that I did not know what to say. After a while I called the HR MGR back and got her voice mail and advised her that just so there would not be any surprises, I had received a call from the LEO at home yesterday evening and in my conversation, I advised him there was a video tape made and I had viewed it. So, she needed to know that it was now part of the police report on a hit and run investigation. I gave her my cell # if she had any more questions and as of this moment I have not heard from her. So the crap is already starting!! RandyA

Hey Art, thanks for posting the great pictures. Where are you camping on the OBX? We used to camp years ago down at Salter Path near Morehead City, but the campground got sold for about 22 million and now condos are going up. I envy you guys. RandyA

Almost. This is what I came out to at lunch today. I was parked at an angle to the curb about 6 to 8 feet behind a Black Ford F-150 pickup when I went in this morning. When I came out to ride to lunch, the truck was gone and my bike was laying in the street. There was a guy on a Burgman scooter stopped as he thought there had been a crash. I saw the guy that lives in the house on the porch and motioned for him to come down to the street. I asked him if he knew anything about what happened. He said his girlfriend had left in the truck, but she did not hit my bike. I said is was obvious someone hit it and I suspected it was the person driving the truck. He is a bit redneck with about a dozen piercings and he started this I am gonna whoop your a$$ stuff. I said thats' all folks, I am calling the police. Well, it just so happens the guy on the scooter had some real close Police buddies and he called both of them. In a few minutes, both of them were there. Our Company Security people came by, but they informed that with it being on city streets, they were not involved. So, the scooter guy and I start talking to the LEO and he says it looks like a hit and run. The LEO talks to the guy at the house and that guy gives him the girl friend's phone number and she tells him that she did not hit my bike. So the LEO says with what he is told, there is not much more he can do until he can investigate more. The LEO gave me the card to get the police report and if I find out anything else, to let him know. Well, as the afternoon wore on, one of the engineers I work with said we might have it on company video. I give Security a call and ask and the guy says,"Ya mean the one that happened at 11:29 that shows a black pickup truck knocking a bike over and driving off"? "I said that must be the one". He then said he would burn a copy and give it to Human Resources as he was not allowed to give it straight to me. I did stop by the security office and they showed it to me. I then stopped by the police station and asked about getting in touch with the LEO that did the report as I had more information. The LEO gave me a call and I advised him it was on video and I would have a copy tomorrow. The LEO called me a little while ago and advised he was at redneck's house trying to get some information. The right fairing took a hard hit and both bags, one from the bumper and one from the curb. It also knocked the light bar to one side and the headlight cover is almost a half inch off center. It bent the engine guard into the water pump elbow, but did not hurt it. So, we will see what kind of insurance they have and go from there. Even though this is all fixable stuff for me, including the ghostflame paint job, I know this is going to be a big hassle. Please wish me luck. The LEO that did the report rides a Goldwing. RandyA

transmission problem
Venturous Randy replied to chas m's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
These guys are correct and several of us have rebuilt our transmissions. Just do a search and you will find about anything you want. Your discription doesn't really match the usual symtoms on the early end of the problem, so how long have you had the bike? It sounds like you are more into the late stages. Any questions you have, we will try to work you thru them. Just keep us posted. Good luck. RandyA -
On the bottom shelf, three rows over from main isle that goes out the door toward the west side of the store in the automotive section. (Hope your store sits in the same direction) RandyA

Flow thru bolt for banjoe brake line fitting.
Venturous Randy replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
I suspect about any motorcycle shop would have some in stock. You just need the diameter. Do you mean to keep refering to an 82 model, because 83 is the first year? Randy A -
I have had my bike over 12 years and have had several covers, most costing about $60 or more. I have found the $20 one Walmart sells just as good as any of them, stores easy with a pouch and if someone stole it, I would not be out much. RandyA

Not that I can tell. Also, electric motors in general do not take a lot of amps compared to a lightbulb, which technically is a dead short to ground. I just had a couple of compressors where I had bought several horn sets over the years and it was just easier to run one short hose to each one rather than a "Y" and splitting it. It also has more "umph" I will try to take a picture of how I mounted mine and post it later. RandyA
