I know when I got all the stuff together on my bike knock over, I took it to my insurance, Allstate, and they contacted the other guy's insurance, State Farm. I would go to your insurance and let them work on it, especially since you were not at fault. RandyA

I like this because I work so I can do other things!!! RandyA

I honestly believe that if I had not put air horns on my bike about 10 years ago, I would not be sitting here right now. I have had several incidents of drivers obviously commited to take my space that the loud air horns stopped them. Thanks for the great post freezy and I hope this causes at LEAST one rider to go with air horns. RandyA

I got a call from State Farm on my truck/knock over settlement and they said after doing a review, they determined my 83 was worth about $3,500. I will post more tomorrow on my settlement. RandyA

Friday night we had a high speed chase with the law and a pickup truck thru city streets. The pickup slammed in to the back of a 17 year old kid on a motorcycle, killing the kid. How do you deal with stupidity like that? RandyA

decided to do a litle facelift on the bumblebee...
Venturous Randy replied to a topic in Watering Hole
I like it, but I also have a suggestion. If you are going to remove the lower front plastic, make your side panels "bikini" like I did. I will try to add some pictures when I get home from work. If you do not want to cut your's up, pick up a couple off ebay and do them, that's what I did. RandyA -
The area closed is from Asheville to Mt Mitchell. There are a couple of detours. I would come up 70 out of Asheville toward Black Mountain and a little before you get to Marion, NC, turn up 80 to your left. When you get to the parkway, you can turn back south if you want to go to Mt Mitchell, or north takes you thru Boone. Little Switzerland is a nice stop. The Spruce Pine exit has a Gem museum and about a mile farther toward Spruce is a Walmart, if you need anything. RandyA

Output shaft problems??
Venturous Randy replied to tooldood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dan, with his being an 86, he should not have the classic 2nd gear problem. RandyA -
I replaced the boots under my carbs last year with some off another engine I had and I thought I was never going to get the carbs to seat. Yep, bigger hammer. RandyA

steering head bearings
Venturous Randy replied to Locomotive's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The number one problem on these old bikes is not that the bearings are tight enough, but clean enough. I have redone the bearings on several 1st gens and the first thing to do is clean the bearings real good, feel for any imprints on the bearings and then repack and reassemble. Every one I have taken apart had dried grease that made the head sticky. After getting everything clean and regreased, I have found that what worked best for me was to put the bike on the centerstand and put a small jack under the front of the engine and raise it until the rear wheel touches the ground. This will allow the front end assembly to be easily moved from side to side. It will also allow you to feel for anything rubbing anywhere like brake hoses, wiring harnesses, etc. The steering should normally want to fall to one side or the other. In tightening the bearings, I over tighten them until I feel a little restriction and them back them up a little. Now, if you did not clean and regrease your bearings to start with, you will not get what the bike is capable of for correct tracking. RandyA -
Well, at least it is in the right place, behind 1st gens. Nice bike Brad. RandyA

We had a bad lighting storm move thru here Tuesday afternoon. I did not realize it until Wednesday morning, but my heat pump A/C was not working. I checked and the circuit breaker was popped. I called Farm Bureau Insurance and asked if my insurance would cover it. They told me to get someone to look at it and today he found the compressor that he had replaced eight months ago was open on all three circuits. He said it looked like a lighting strike to him. So, come Monday I will see what Farm Bureau has to say. RandyA

A couple of years ago I was in the left lane at an intersection when a another bike pulled up behind me. It was dark and I could not tell what kind of bike it was, but he kept revving the engine. When the light changed, I nailed it and swung over in the right lane. I guess about the time I shifted into 2nd, I was at about the 55mph speed limit and let off. The other biker went screaming by me. A couple of seconds later, a cop goes screaming by me. Seems the cop was close behind and saw everything, but evidently did not seem interested in me as I had leveled off at the speed limit. A ways up the road the cop had the other bike pulled over. I felt bad for him, but he also had the option of shutting down at 55 and he didn't. I am just glad that I did. RandyA

Year to Year Differences
Venturous Randy replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, we had an earlier differential and driveshaft and on the 83/85, the driveshaft coupling on the differential sticks out farther. The 86 up driveshaft is longer because it is more resessed into the differential as part of the improved lubrication on the splines. RandyA -
Anyone know about home security cameras
Venturous Randy replied to venturejockey's topic in Watering Hole
Yeah, you think you have had neighbors, you should listen to some of Dan's stories. RandyA -
and do you have the 5 year warranty? RandyA

The only thing I am really going to need is the right front signal light. The rest of the stuff I can get or will fix myself. Thanks and I still may be talking to you. RandyA

Wow, never seen a black one before. I just finished doing some more pricing over the phone on the other parts and there are some other problems. The front fairing stay that the local shop priced for $176 is $293 at the other shop. The guy at the other shop could not figure where the first shop got their prices. He said some of the prices from the first shop were way under what his costs were. So, when I meet up with the adjuster tomorrow, I am going to explain this and ask if we need to get another estimate or does he want to make an offer. RandyA
-
I just checked with another Yamaha shop and he gave the price on the mirror as $185. Local dealer transposed a number. I faxed the whole parts estimate for him to review. Just another reason I avoid the local dealer. RandyA
-
I might should go by there and recheck those prices. I wonder what a brand new mirror still in the box would go for on ebay? RandyA
-
I figure this also. The prices the local Yamaha shop gave me for the parts were; R fairing 482 left bag 722 fairing stay 176 RH mirror 69 rt engine guard 131 r signal light 114 I noticed a right hand mirror went on ebay this week for $101 inc shipping. RandyA

Dan, one more thing, have you contacted your insurance on the uninsured motorist part on what Sentry insurance sent you? I know that my insurance, Allstate, sure helped me in getting things going with State Farm in regard to my uninsured part. Has your insurance paid anything toward your claim? How about the vehicle part? RandyA
-
That does not make sense. You had a legal vehicle and got hit by a charged driver. How do they think they can get by without paying insurance for your vehicle? I just just got a call from the State Farm adjuster and he wants to meet me tomorrow afternoon to look at the bike. Well, we will see where it goes from here. Dan, I feel for you with all you have been thru. Talk about a major PIA!! RandyA

If you go down to the bottom and read the other posts on Hit and Run, it will give you the ups and downs(emotionally) of what is going on. I plan on showing the insurance agent the pictures of the bike laying on it's side and maybe he will understand more about why it hit the ground so hard with the rearend of the bike being raised up on a curb. Thanks Condor, you are quick. It is a shame the satelite map is cloudy. It may be better to go to weather.com and hone in on their satelite map. RandyA
