  1. I fill to the bottom of the threads on the middle, fill hole. Filling to the top of that hole may be a little too much. RandyA
  2. One of the things that goes with our hobby is bad things happen. Therefore, I feel it is real important that you carry an ICE card, that's an "In Case of Emergency" card with pertinant phone number contacts. I have one that I carry on me and I also have another one in my motorcycle. I have my name, my wife's, my son's and my two sister's names and phone numbers listed. I printed them up on yellow paper and laminated them at work and I have them about the size of credit card. I hope I never need them, but if I do, the information is available. With todays use of cellular phones, it is not as easy to look up information as it once was. RandyA
  3. Come on down, can't wait to see you. RandyA
  4. I am thinking about putting an infomation sheet together for those attending the rally if they want to participate. The data would be; Name Cell phone # place staying Emergency number. For those contributing, I will give you a copy of this info. You could email me at rsatkins@comcast.net with the info and I will make copies. I will be able to put this together as late as early Tuesday morning. Let me know what you think as this information will only go to those that contributed. RandyA
  5. About the only other site I sometimes go to is Maxima.org, as I have two Maximas. As here, there are a lot of folks that have a lot of technical knowledge, but talk about a general bunch of a-holes. I hardly ever go there unless I am looking for some specific information because of the attitudes. RandyA
  6. As I said, the longer Jardines work well for me. RandyA
  7. I have the lower light bar along with a trailer hitch on my 83 and everything comes out just right. Actually, before I put the Jardines on about ten years ago, the stock pipes were way too short. Now the exhaust comes out just where I want it. I will see if I have a picture of mine when I get home I can post. RandyA
  8. Duh, the elevator is the ONLY way I am going to the top!!! RandyA
  9. If you get the carb sync out bad enough, it idles like a Harley!!! RandyA
  10. What I hope we can do is take the elavator to the top and walk back down through some of the places like "the eye of the needle" and other interesting places. RandyA
  11. If you have a vacuum leak, you may have compensated for the leak by the sync job. Check all your YICS connections, especially where they connect to the engine. Or, take it off and plug the fittings with good strong caps. Then try the resync again. RandyA
  12. I have had good luck so far with Spybot getting rid of some stuff I could not uninstall. RandyA
  13. Once you get the grimlins worked out for it sitting so long, you should have a nice bike. RandyA
  14. New tires always make the bike feel better, but the Avons made my bike feel a couple hundred pounds lighter in handling. I will be putting an Elite III on the back in the next week or so and see how that tire feels. eusa1, 2,000 miles on the Avons? RandyA
  15. Before you leave, check your tire pressures and get a can of Plexus and some soft cotton rags. RandyA
  16. Rolling on the floor laughing. RandyA
  17. Bill, you may be correct about the gas, but before I did anything, I would check the boost sensor to see if it is working correctly. RandyA
  18. Goose, I am sure you are going to love the new Avons on your 2nd gen. I am going this afternoon to pick up a new Elite III for the back of my 1st gen. I think I have put about 11,000 miles on the Avon, and that is a bit more than I usually do. I plan to leave the Avon on the front and see how the Elite III does on the back. Others have stated this worked best for them. If the Avon worked good on the back of my 1st gen above 75mph, I would have totally loved them. RandyA
  19. To bring everyone who is interested up to speed, I have made a settlement with State Farm on my bike. I have kept the title of this post Hit & Run, even though after the woman was told there was a video of the event, she no longer denied hitting my bike. If you are interested in the whole saga, the other posts are at the bottom detailing the highs and lows. Even though she was charged with driving on a suspended license and improper backing while driving her boyfriend's F150 Ford pickup truck, State Farm took liability. I was a bit anxious when I met with the State Farm adjuster, but I was pleased that on several occasions, he stated that I had a real nice looking bike. He was impressed with the condition and especially the paint. I don't think he expected this when he came to look at a 25 year old Yamaha. I got a call last Tuesday from State Farm wanting to settle on the damage. The first thing the woman said was they had done some research on an 83 Yamaha Venture and determined the value was something over $3,000. That surprised me right from the start. She said they were not taking issue with any of the submitted estimates, but this did take the payoff to more than the value of the bike. She asked me if I wanted to keep the bike and I told her I hope so. She stated that an option would be for the bike to be totaled and me buy it back. She then stated that if I would sign a release and fax them a copy of my title, I could buy the bike back for $200 and she would take that out of the total and send me a check for $3,162. She also stated that they were not going to notify the state of Tennessee, so I would not get a "salvage" title. She said she would immediately process the claim. I went home during lunch and picked up my title and signed the release and faxed it back. By Friday, I had not received a check, so I called the woman and found that she had just left on a weeks vacation. I gave the woman that answered my claim number and she pulled it up on the computer and stated the fax had not been received. They have a fax system that is received on a computer and it sorts it according to the claim number. We ended up having to use a regular fax machine for her to have it in hand. She stated she would process it today. So, my plans are to take the fairings off and realign the upper frame and fix some plastic and get the worked areas repainted. I am also going to get the right bag painted on the outside and replace the left bag and paint it. I also need a right front signal light and will have to do some work on the plastic panels that hold the speakers, or replace them. I also plan on replacing my rear Avon tire with an Elite III and I am going to get a PC680 battery. I appreciate the interest expressed with my emotional highs and lows I have been dealing with and the encouragement. I feel a little guilty about how this has turned out, given others, such as Yammer Dan have been through so much crap. RandyA
  20. I shift my 83 a lot without using the clutch, but I let off just enough to syncronize speed and it is smoother than using the clutch. Even though I now have a transmission out of an 86 in mine, I still would not shift without using the clutch at WOT (wide open throttle). Do you wonder if the Harley rider told any of his friends about getting beat by a bike 20 years old with a passenger? RandyA
  21. OK, so Laura and I will make 20. How about a Thursday group to the top of Chimney Rock? RandyA
  22. My first thought is you put the washer in the wrong place and are binding. The second thing is it sounds like you did not remove the differential and pull the drive shaft and clean and grease it. Pumping a lot of grease into the zerk fitting is a waste of time and grease and a lot of grease in that area is not a good thing. You need to always remove the differential and drive shaft everytime you change the rear tire and grease the splines. RandyA
  23. I don't think whether your pads are worn out or not has any effect on the warning light. This is only tied into the reservoir level. RandyA
  24. Way to go, Fred. Good to see you got a little seat time....I mean hand time. Good luck. RandyA
  25. Where is a good place to get a good deal on a PC680 battery? I have looked on ebay and they are running around $130 with shipping. Thanks RandyA
