Which reminds me, some of the most enjoyable memories from anniversaries did not have anything to do with the money we spent!!! RandyA

You mean that the RSV does not have a specific ground wire to the engine? RandyA

Yes, I have seen that particular show and yes I believe you nailed that one. RandyA

Bad experience with a dealer in Jackson, TN
Venturous Randy replied to mountainhorsega's topic in Watering Hole
In the almost 100,000 miles I have put on my bike, the one thing I have noticed is when a tire gets closer to the wear bars, it seems to wear a lot quicker. It may be because there is less flex that a lot of thread has and it scuffs quicker. Either way, if I am getting ready to put some miles on, I will consider that I may have a lot less miles available in worn tires than it looks. RandyA -
I think it has also made some pretty bad motorcycle people a lot better by associating with us. RandyA

Tires....again
Venturous Randy replied to pilothawk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I went from Metzler ME880 to Avons and the improvement in handling was terrific. The bike handled like it weighed 200 pounds less. The only problem I encountered was a rear end wobble starting at speeds above 70mph. There have been many other 1st gen guys with Avons that experienced the same thing. When the Avon got down near the wear bars, I replaced it with an Elite III and have been very happy with the handling. To me, it made the bike handle more "neutral". With the Avon on the back, it made you feel like you were really dipping into a turn. I don't feel that way now. I will be replacing the front tire by spring time and if the Elite III is not available for the front, I will probably go with the Avon Venom again. RandyA -
Remove TCI
Venturous Randy replied to mtman's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Don, that's a good idea. I have been meaning to move my TCI for several years. I may make this one of my winter projects. RandyA -
I want to jump in here and say that Ken is a great guy and it is one really nice camper. I sure wish I could afford it right now as I would not hesitate for a minute to buy it. RandyA

Hey eck, since we have so many new members, how about telling us again about your name and how it has helped you, at least once? RandyA

Glad to hear things are getting better, I wish you the best. At this time, many of us are taking jobs or having our jobs expanded because of company decisions and feel we are the lucky ones. I just turned 58 and the thought of looking for a job at this age in this economy is really scary. RandyA

I bet if you pull the cover off the side of that carb, you will see that the diaphram has holes in it, causing it to run rich. You probably need to check all four diaphrams. RandyA

I am getting ready to take a trip down to Birmingham, Alabama this weekend for a family wedding. By going by the map, I can fill up here in Jonesborough, about five miles from home and it is on the way for about $2.69, then top off again in Gadsden AL, about 50 miles before Birmingham for about $2,95. To make it back home, I may top off again in Gadsden. Considering that much of Birmingham is still in the $3.50 range, I can save some money using this map. RandyA

Yes, Johnson City here. We need to get together and have an east TN meet & eat. It may be getting a little late this year, but with as many as we got around here, it should be fun. RandyA

It was about 47 this morning on the way to work, but it is supposed to be about 82 this afternoon. Had a beautiful weekend. RandyA

Went fo a good long day ride today and pulled into a station to fill up. As I was coming up to the station, I looked up at the markee and the price for reg was $3.11. That was better than I had been paying so I was happy. When I stuck my debit card in, I noticed reg was $2.98. I looked up on the markee again and it was now $2.98. Later on in the evening on the way back, I looked at the same markee again and it was now $2.82. That's nineteen cents in one day with at least two changes. Sure glad I did not buy a bunch of gas futures. Anyone want to make a guess where it will bottom at? I seen on gasbuddy.com where it was $2.39 in Oklahoma. I filled up in Asheville, NC at $3.11 and in the next block it was $3.79. We saw several stations in Asheville at $3.60 and up. RandyA

It is supposed to be mid 70's and sunny here in east Tennessee. The trees are really turning. I would love to go up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but with the fall colors, the cagers scare me to death. They are looking everywhere except where they are going. RandyA

Wow Ken, great story and pictures. Glad you could do it and it turned out so well. Thanks for sharing it with us. RandyA

Maybe sometimes most of us need to have a reality check to help us remember how many absolutely stupid drivers there are. You paying attention surely saved your bacon. Two days ago on a 30mph two lane city street, a 31 year old guy in an SUV ran headon into a family of five in a Honda because he had looked down at something in his vehicle and missed the curve. He is now charged with vehicular manslaughter and a bunch of other charges. Another case of thinking about everything but driving. RandyA

Interesting thing about a funeral procession. In Tennessee, if you are not part of the procession, it is against the law to stop, according to a big article in our local paper. We still have people that will stop in the left lane of a four lane hi way when meeting a funeral procession. I assume if there is a crash, they will be charged with obstructing traffic. I think it is a curtious gesture to slow down, but stopping in the middle of the street can cause another funeral. RandyA

As part of the strobes/LEDs on my bike, I have two small strobes in the trunk light bar and also have an LED on top of my trunk. The LED has about six bulbs that will light up in several configurations. The way I have it set is the two left bulbs come for a fraction of a second, then the two middle, then the two right ones then repeat. So, what you get is the lit bulbs running back and forth. All this is wired in with my brake light. I have been running strobes in my head light and with my brake lights for probable about 12 years. The only time I had an LEO take issue was a TN State Trooper coming up behind me while stopped at about 1am coming home from the Honda Hoot. At that time I actually had strobes inside my brake light. He took issue with them being colored, particularly being red. The ones in my trunk light bar are clear and show clear. When the ones in the brake light quit, I never fixed them. But, by this time I had added the one on top of the trunk. I personally do like the third brake light concept in cars and this is like that. RandyA

I noticed a lot of outragous buy-it-now prices on ebay. There was an insturnment cluster also listed for Buy it now for $300. I have a feeling the seller, oops, I guess I should call him "lister" may have a lot of parts left over when the bid time ends. I can only assume that these people are really out of touch on what these parts will bring. RandyA

I suspect saddlebum may be right on this one. This had been a problem on some of these differentials. RandyA

Rear end gearbox
Venturous Randy replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have used synthetic gear oil in my 83 for several years and it seems to do fine. I check the level occasionally and it does not appear to have leaked any. At least 1,500 miles of this was pulling a 450 pound camper. RandyA
