I like Purple. And, I get a lot of comments from the female gender. Actually my color is called "Twilight Royal Pearl" RandyA

Well, it looked pretty real. There was a point or two I wondered about with the focus changes and all. RandyA

I really would love to be there. Probably the best I could get away would be around 3pm Friday without taking a vacation day. If I could have gotten away earlier and had somebody I might be able to share a room with and it would not be raining, I would have loved to try it. RandyA

stiff clutch lever
Venturous Randy replied to dynodon's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I got a stiff clutch lever several years ago and it ended up being junk in the metal tubing that goes under the engine in the clutch hose line assembly. Once I cleaned that out, clutch was back to working normal. RandyA -

If you really want some brakes that will set you on your nose, get the EBC HH pads. They will really make a difference. RandyA- 9 replies

headlight wiring
Venturous Randy replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bet you ten bucks to a donut that the problem is in your CMS and the only way to fix the problem is to take the CMS out and resolder the cold solder joints. It is a relative easy fix and everything will work like it is supposed to work. Just out of curosity, what did the shop charge you to do the by-pass wire? If you are interested in doing it right, just let us know and I am sure there are several of us on here that will give you a hand. I just looked at your profile and with your adding lights like you did, you would find the CMS fix easy. RandyA -
eck, very good post. Seeing you post reminds me of one of the first rides I had with VR and I think it was Vogal I. I remember there was several of us screaming thru the mountain roads at just about everything we could do and no matter how hard we rode, we could not keep up with the UPS truck. There was not any fault here, The S*B was flying. RandyA

Anytime there is a ride thru construction, there is always opportunities for problems. The Valk rider may have not known there was a stop sign where there usually isn't one and was not prepared to stop or maybe he was giving more space to someone behind him. If he was just showing off, that is another matter, especially in a construction area. Remember, "One who rides faster than the rest, rides alone". On all the VR rides I have participated in, and that has been associated with Vogal and Asheville, there has only been one incident and that was in a construction zone down in Georgia year before last. Unexpectedly the traffic came to a hault because of a truck with a trailer turning. The bike was hurt bad, but the rest was road rash. With the information given, there is some confusion on my part. I have been watching this thread from the beginning and trying to figure how I can be there. It seems everyway I turn is a negative. It is about a 7 1/2 ride from here to Jacksonville and we are supposed to have rain Friday after a 20 degree temperature drop and I would want to ride. I need to save as many vacation days as I can as I will be taking at least 4 in Dec to take Laura to Nashville for more surgery, so taking one Friday is not good. I would have to come by myself as Laura is over seeing the church school Fall Festival, which is Sat evening, and I will probably need to help her finish that up. So, as much as I want to come down, I guess I will have to pass on this one. RandyA

Or, you can get you a good running 1st gen, in particular an 83, and you can stop that "Blowing past you stuff" A Valkrie may get ya, but he will have to work for it. I find if I ride in a group larger than about four bikes, I tend to spend a lot of energy watching everyone else. RandyA

I tried the Silver Star on my bike and my cars. It was an improvement, but I found them to have a short life in all the vehicles. I ended up putting a PIAA bulb in my bike and I had already upgraded from the MKI to the MKII system and that was a great improvement. RandyA

We went for a beautiful ride Sunday thru the rolling hills of east Tennessee. It was like a moving post card with clear blue sky and beautiful color. When the low level light blinker came on, I found a fuel station and filled up. The fill up was less than $10 for a change. RandyA

Was there lots and lots to see? Sorry, couldn't help it. As far as Texas, there may not be many good riding roads, but I guess you could ride them most all year anyway. We are blessed here in East Tennessee. Our ride of about 150 miles yesterday that did not even get into the mountains, but thru rolling hills farmland with mountains in the back ground, was like riding thru a moving post card. And we still have a LOT of color here. RandyA

Read an article in the paper about Iran having some major economic issues because of the drop in the price of oil, especially for the president. That could not happen to a nicer guy. RandyA

I may just take a ride down thru the country. We are still in the leaf changing mode and there are some really colorful views. It is supposed to be about 70 degrees here up in the day, but probably about 30 when I get up. Hope every stays safe. RandyA

Wally World has an XL for about $20 that does fine. It also packs good. RandyA -
Thinking about a Long Tour in the Spring
Venturous Randy replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
Years ago there was a book that was put out by William Least Heat Moon called Blue Highways. He started in, I believe MO, and came down thru the middle of the country to the east coast, dropped to the south thru cajun country then across the Rockies to Wash state then all the way to Maine. He called the book Blue Highways because old maps used to color the small roads blue and he specifically tried to stay off the interstates. These books can be found in book stores and libraries and it is a great read. RandyA -
Ponch, thanks for posting that. It was a nice way to end my day at work(there are snow flurries outside). RandyA

Tach no tach
Venturous Randy replied to Dark Wolf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This does happen occasionally on these 25 year old bikes and it is called in need of lubrication. You need to pull your dash out and put some light oil on the tach moving parts. You also need to take the speedometer out and put some good grease on the bearing at the base of the speedometer where the cable comes thru. I bet you this will solve the tach problem and prevent the dreaded speedometer squeal, which also usually happens more in cooler weather. RandyA -
That puppy looks more like a bear to me!!! RandyA

I have had Harbor Freight air horns on my 1st gen for years and they are loud and work great. I mounted them facing forward under the upper fairing. They are real cheap as in $10 to $15 and easy to hook up. I know you asked about electric horns, but these are good. RandyA

It seems to be the 1st gen bikes that do not have an Elite III for the front. I have an Elite III on the back of my 83 with an Avon on the front and like it. RandyA

I got in a short ride thru the countryside Sunday. I wish I had taken the camera as there would have been some beautiful shots with changing trees and clear views of the mountains. Cold front is moving in today and looks to be miserable. RandyA

When I am stopping to get gas in the cars, I am only putting in about 8 to 10 gallons. This is opposite of what I do when it is going up. I will always fill it knowing it may be more tomorrow. RandyA

If I had a buck for every time Laura has dozed off, I could probably buy a new bike. This is especially true since I put the arm rests on it. Usually, she just gets quite, but sometimes I get the thump in the back of my helmet. This has usually been on a warm afternoon in the sun. One of the things we carry on the bike is a vinyl tablecloth that has a cotton type side. We have been known while on the Blue Ridge Parkway to find a comfortable place and spread it out and take a nap. RandyA
