I have always wondered why so many people think of us down here as Americans and you folks as Canadians. I guess it is because United Stateians just don't come off the tongue right. RandyA

It is about 13 degrees here in east Tennessee with a chill factor below zero. But, it is supposed to be near 60 by Saturday and most all of next week. I just keep telling myself that "This too shall pass". RandyA

Upgrade brakes?
Venturous Randy replied to Iowa Guy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, foot brake works the left front and rear brake and hand lever works the right front only. RandyA -
On at least two ocassions I have dropped my keys on my 83 down past the tripple tree and ended up in the fan area. I believe on one ocassion I ended up taking the fan housing loose to get them out. It was also usually at a time when it was real inoppertune to do that. RandyA

Makes you think a little bit doesn't it?
Venturous Randy replied to Iowawegian's topic in Watering Hole
I was hopeing this was not just a feel good story that someone had come up with so I had to check with Snopes. Not only is it true, but they have also added the letter of apology from the letter writer. http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/wakeup.asp RandyA -

Dunlop E3 question
Venturous Randy replied to Dexx's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I replaced the Avon on the back of my 83 with an E3 with the Avon Venom still on the front. I will be replacing the Avon soon on the front and will be going with another Avon. I have heard several run with this combination and I know that I like the the way my bike feels. It feels more neutral to me with this combination. The tire treads also match very good visually. It went for $4,050. I guess you were the closest PB&J. RandyA

Well, it's Friday afternoon and I am at work. Right now the local weather report is for about 55 degrees on Sunday and sunny. Monday goes down hill and we are looking at 3 to 5" of snow, but I have heard that before. Maybe Sunday I can get in a little "therapy", I sure do need it, especially before snow. RandyA

First of all, this is NOT a political thread. I have always kept up with the news, whether it is the evening news, 24 hour news, radio or reading the local paper. I have spent many hours eating lunch in my car parked somewhere listening to Paul Harvey. I am now getting to the point that I can not stand to be around the news. I will still listen to Paul Harvey(or his stand-in) because at least there will usually be some up lifting news, but everything else is just more and more depressing. It is stuff like this that rips me, headline; "Local Company Looses 2 Million Dollars!" When you read the story, it does tell that company actually made a fairly good profit, BUT, their profit was 2 million dollars less than what was predicted a year ago. It is like, how bad can we make the news look in the headlines, at every opportunity? Then you got the story like I heard this morning as I was getting ready to go to work; Woman spends $155,000 to get her dog cloned. Which reminds me, has anyone else heard what is the latest going on with the PETA bunch? RandyA

Well, we do not have a state income tax here in Tennessee and I usually run a tab thru the Veterans Admistration for copays so if I get any back, the federal government takes their slice first for that. I usually break about even so unless there is a surprise this year, I should be ok. RandyA

saddle bag locks
Venturous Randy replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you are not able to get the locks working the way you want on the side bags, the easiest way to remove them is to take the three screws out that hold the lock assembly and pull the bag off. You will need to hold the lock assemblies in place when you put it back on. RandyA -
First post by that name. RandyA

There are a couple of other sites I go to ocassionally and have just about stopped due to the political garbage on them. It does not matter what the subject is, someone will try to make something political about it. We got it good here, let us keep it good. RandyA

Well mini, it is raining here now and has dropped about 10 degrees during my lunch hour. It's coming your way. RandyA
-
but it's a comming. Here in north east Tennessee, we have been just south and east of the train of ice and snow that has moved across the Ohio valley. We were rainy yesterday, but in the low 50's. By the time I get off work this afternoon, we are supposed to be getting closer to freezing. Yuck, I dread it. It was amazing to walk out and it feel like a spring morning. At least I got a tiny taste of what we are all longing for. RandyA

Squidley amazes me. I can not believe he even got his "V" for VentureRiders suit on. Just amazing how he can do stuff like that. RandyA

Drip- Drip- Drip
Venturous Randy replied to Pappa Bear's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just make sure you keep up with the spring and detent ball that may pop out on you. The picture 86er posted shows the tops of the letters to be in the 5 oclock position. RandyA -
There have been a lot of good comments here and some Harley bashing, but I have to agree with this comment as much as any of them. Well said ediddy. Harley may not have the returns to it's investors like it used to, but who does. RandyA

This past summer our heat pump was struck by lightening and took out a compressor I had installed about eight months earlier. We had an old sear 10 unit that also blew barely warm air when running, unless we were on emergency heat for some reason. When the heat pump was struck, my homeowners insurance replaced both the outside and inside units with the new 410A (I think)stuff and it is now a sear 14 rating. Now the air coming out of the vents with it 30 degrees outside feels as warm as the emergency heat used to feel with the old system. RandyA

Ken, I think these guys are right on their analysis. Can you confirm whether there were any score marks on the cylinder wall? If so and it is in line with the piston wrist pin coming loose I think you got your answer. If it were mine and the cylinder wall was not scored, I would feel better if just that piston was replaced along with a fine hone job on that cylinder to help break the new rings in. As far as the bottom end, I don't think I would want it messed with unless there any metal particulates found in the oil filter. At the the mileage you noted, the bearings are not even broken yet. Good luck and keep us posted. RandyA
