    We have had absolutely beautiful weather here in east Tennessee and I will have at least a 7 day weekend and I can't ride. Doctor said NO MOTORCYCLE RIDING until I get my cataract surgery healed up. RandyA

    Thanks Steve and I don't have any muddy sand around my yard. I had my follow up this morning and when I got up, my focus was not as clear as yesterday. My exam showed that my eye pressure was up considerably and had a little infection. The doctor drained fluid out of my eye twice and that helped tremendously. She also gave me some drops that we hope will keep the pressure down. I gave her the signoff sheet for me to be released to go back to work Tuesday and she said no, I want to see you again Tuesday. So, we will see how this progresses. Again, thanks everyone. RandyA

    Lew, we are wanting to, but at the moment we will just have to play it by ear. I know we have throughly enjoyed Vogal and have been at all of them. We will see how it goes as we get closer. Randy & Laura

    I hope it goes well, but my biggest fear around here with the Dragon and several other popular riding roads is the other bikes. It is hard to enjoy the road when the next curve may have a crotch rocket and rider sliding on the pavement at you at 50mph. And this is on heavily patrolled roads. RandyA

    I have put over 99,000 miles on the bike and am very happy that the majority of it was with my wife. It also helps that she is a very good passenger. I agree about taking the courses, but in the mean time, I suggest you find a big empty parking lot and do a lot of different maneuvers. Do figure 8's, slow turns and practice some stops just short of a panic stop, especially with using the front brake. With your bike having the integrated braking system, it takes out some of the problems the 2nd genners have, and remember that 70% of braking effectiveness is from the front brakes. Another thing that really makes the 2-up riding experience more enjoyable is having a good intercom system. Since my bike is a standard, we don't have the built in intercom, so we have a Chatterbox system that works very good. Thanks for the story of you and your wife "making memories". RandyA

    An engine is actually more efficient if run within the designed temperature. Also, if you take the thermostat out, you can incur more heating problems as the water will pass through the radiator too quickly and not cool sufficiently under heavy load conditions. Anyway, if you want to take the thermostat out of the loop, just turn the bypass below the radiator. RandyA

    I would say you got your answer with either Bob or Carl. For some reason a little bell is ringing about someone having this problem a while back and found a loose ground under one of the front signal lights. RandyA

    First of all, I want to thank everyone for your kind and supporting words. As several have said, it was pretty easy and I am having virtually no discomfort. I do feel a minor irritation that I believe is the stitch. Even though my eye is still a bit dilated, my vision in that eye has improved tremendously. Now I am noticing the film over my right eye that I was not noticing as much before as the left one is now so clear. I will be putting the right one on the schedule for later this year and I hope it does not do like the left one did and change so much so quickly. Anyway, great day and thanks again everyone. And yes, I am really looking forward to SEEING everyone at Asheville!! RandyA

    I found that if I take the bango fitting on the master loose and use my finger as a check valve, when I punp the lever it will fill the pump back up and start working again. Just make sure you have plenty of rags to catch the fluid. RandyA

    Got off work a little early to get ready for tomorrow. We have had so much rain you can watch my grass grow. Since I am not supposed to do any yard work for at least three weeks, I mowed again this afternoon. Got some other pressing things done and then went for a beautiful ride. It was about 72º and very clear. The mountains are soooo green. I am so anxious about getting this over with. The cataract in my left eye was not noticable until a couple of months ago. Now it is like looking thru Saran wrap, just like I have a thick film over that eye. I was originally scheduled for June 24th, which was a bit close to the Asheville event, but I lucked out when someone cancelled and I was able to move it up. I am so looking forward to being able to have clear vision again. And it will make it so much better riding at night as now any headlights amost blind me. RandyA

    I do not see any way you could get to everything without pullings the carbs out. I have pulled the float bowls off without seperating the carbs, once they are out, but it makes it much more difficult to get to the screws. If you do seperate the carbs, you will definately need to sync the carbs. RandyA

    Jeff, it sounds like you are getting it back on track. As far as brakes, if your calipers are good and you do a good fluid flushing, go to EBC HH brake pads. They are a little more pricey, but they will set you on your nose. RandyA

    Absolutely. That is the typical response you will get when the pilot jet/jets are clogged. That is exactly the way my bike ran when I got it and a pilot jet cleaning worked wonders. Pilot jets are very small holes and it does not take much to clog them up. RandyA

    If you have reservations at a motel, call them and see if they will let you ship a box of stuff. When you get there, your stuff will be waiting and you can ship home what is dirty, etc. RandyA

    If the tank was plastic or aluminum, you may be able to do that. With a steel tank you could never maneuver the magnet around without it attaching to the tank. RandyA

    Those look just like my Markland's on my bike. I believe there is about a 1/4 inch bolt the pad pivots on. I just tighten the bolt until there is sufficent resistance to keep it snug, RandyA

    I don't think an 84 has this bleed point. The way I bleed brakes or the clutch on these bikes it to make sure the reservior is full and then loosen the bleed valve and place my finger over it, which makes a check valve. I then pump fairly quickly, pumping a lot of fluid through. I then check the reservior to make sure it has enough fluid. Once I am comfortable the fluid is fresh, I will do a few bleeds where I snug the bleed valve, pump it up and bleed it down. This is the poor mans speed bleeder. I do this to get the system full and this will cause those high places like at the steering to push the bubbles thru. I then use brake parts cleaner to get the brake fluid off everything. It works for me. RandyA

    Normally I would suggest going up on the rock. But, this last summer we went there as part of the Asheville rally and I was disappointed. There are some really neat trails around the rock and most of them were closed. I believe now the NC Park Service has taken it over from private owners so I do not know what the status is. I felt it was a bit pricey for what you could see and do. There is also some good places to eat in Black Mountain. They have a good pizza place called My Father's Pizza and a german restaurant there. One thing to keep in mind is there is going to be A LOT of traffic. And a whole lot of motorcycles. RandyA
