  1. Thanks for checking in with us Gerald. Laura is in Gulf Shores, AL and will be heading up thru Birmingham for a stop over with her sister tonight. In our phone conversation yesterday, she is saying she wants to go camping next weekend. Making plans for that will just about assure we will be have a wet weekend. RandyA
  2. Looks very good Rooster. Ya done good on the color choice. I know that when I painted my bike, I had a very difficult time picking the color and the particular tint of that color. I had no idea how many variations of purple there were. I will have to take a ride across the ridge and see how it looks in person. RandyA
  3. OK, what does "new, (non current)" mean? I have seen that stated before. RandyA
  4. Well, I am not going to post that I opened it. RandyA
  5. There is no connection between the front and rear reservoir. Completely seperate systems. The 1st gens have the rear caliper and left front caliper linked together and the right front caliper is only hooked to the hand brake lever reservoir. RandyA
  6. The best thing about this is the safety equipment worked because they were using it. It breaks my heart on how many people we have had around here getting thrown from a vehicle because they just did not put their seatbelt on. I went for a ride yesterday and encountered two different vehicles that were obviously moving around too much and not maintaining constant speed. Both were women obviously text messaging. That got me to also looking at others and seeing a lot of them not wearing seat belts. One of the problems of young drivers is they may understand the laws of the road, but they don't seem to understand the laws of physics, like traction and friction. I hate to hear they were in a crash, but real glad they were not hurt more than they were. On this ride, about two miles from my house, I was in the left lane of a five lane and a woman decided to pass a truck and turned right into me. Fortunately she used her signal and I barely caught it before she started over as I was almost at her rear bumper. She came over about a foot over the line just as I hit my airhorns. She decided she did not need to get around the truck as she never did pass it. RandyA
  7. I hope your testimony will encourage others to carry an 8mm wrench with them. I am not sure if it was my post you saw, but I did try to hammer that home a while back. What was so frustrating was to read about guys working on their brakes at home and then taking off for a ride and then having the brakes lock up when they got too hot and had too much fluid in them, and not having a wrench with them. I am glad it worked out for you and you did not get hurt in the process. I also agree with Squidley about cleaning out the brake system and putting in some good dot 4 fluid. Thanks for posting and hopefully it will help others. RandyA
  8. Pull the airbox and disconnect the black/white wire from the 6 pin connector. To do this, pull the connector, use a knife blade on the backside of the terminal to push the latch loose. Pull the wire out and plug the connector back up. Put the airbor back on and start the bike. This bypasses all the safety switches and will let you know if one of them may be causing a problem. RandyA
  9. On the 8 pin, which six wires do you have? With the switch on, you should have 12 volts on the red/white wire. On the 6 pin, check continuity on the black/white wire. There should no reading. If you have continuity, one of the safety switches is closed. Then unplug the connector and put a knife blade on the backside of the terminal on the B/W wire to release the latch and the terminal will pull out. Then plug the connector back up and try starting the bike. Another thing to check is to take the headlight out and up under the dash you will see a box held in place by a rubber strap. This is your tilt-over switch. Make sure it is held securely in the rubber stap. If it is hanging down, you have found your problem. RandyA
  10. Did you paint it Tennessee Vols orange? RandyA
  11. David, I assume you are talking about the elbow at the waterpump. What I did was after I pulled the engine guard away from the elbow, I took the guard off and ground the sharp edge off that contacts the elbow. If you will take a good look at it and maybe mark it with a marker, you can give yourself at least a 1/4 inch more clearance before it contacts the elbow. And, without the sharp edge, even if it touched the elbow, it may not hurt it. I did this years ago and so far, even with a hard knock over, I have not damaged the elbow. RandyA
  12. It sounds like you had a problem before and still have a problem. Maybe a little bit different of a problem, but still a problem. What you may have to consider is your problem did not get fixed, and you need to figure out what to do next. RandyA
  13. We used to have a Masda 626 and it was a good car. I liked the osillating center vent. Did your's have that? RandyA
  14. You don't get much more basic on a carb than in the needle valve operation. I would be going back to the Honda shop and tell them to fix it or give me my money back. I have never seen a float that is not adjustable. I have never heard of a new needle valve having to be polished. He needs to grow some and go back to the Honda shop. RandyA
  15. Actually, it gives us both. There are religions I do not want to be part of and our constitution gives me the right not to have to be part of that or any other religion. I think the easiest thing to do in this case is for the Government to turn over that piece of property to an organization like the VFW and it is not an issue any more. RandyA
  16. I saw this video a long time ago and I hope the guy did not get hurt, but it did make me laugh some. Not only for what the Harley rider did, but what was pretty obvious to me on the guy saying "We are going to get our a$$ whipped" from what I guess you would say is the "alternate lifestyle". RandyA
  17. The thing that the American Civil Liberties Union does not understand is that if were not for the veterans, there would not be a ACLU, because a dictator would not allow it to exist. This is also government land near me and my father is there and I will be there when I die. RandyA
  18. Very sad day. Like all of you, I was looking for a positive update on his condition. Our prayers are with his family and friends. Randy & Laura
  19. My only time in Texas was Basic Training in the USAF. I did go to the Alamo and when I walked in, on the wall was a picture of Davey Crockett's birthplace, which was only a few miles from my home. Boy, that made me homesick. Talking about distance, I live in north east Tennessee and I am closer to Canada than Memphis. RandyA
  20. Actually, most of these old Ventures have a lot more slack than we want. It does sound like you are binding up somewhere on yours. RandyA
  21. Steve, you beat me to it. Wishing you and Lonna the best, Squidley RandyA
  22. What I would like to do is take a closed loop fuel injection system from a four cylinder car and adapt the whole thing to a Venture. We had someone on here talking about that a while back, but I don't remember anything coming of it. RandyA
  23. ...am going to have to get used to it. I was having a problem with my front struts bottoming out after I put in new seals. One reason was it had lost all air. In the 13 years I have had this bike, the shocks have always held good air and I usually kept about 10psi in the front. So, since I got a brand new, still in the box, set off ebay for about $63, I thought I would just put them in. I removed the grills around the steering and in no time I had them apart. I filled the fluid level to 5.5 inches with the struts compressed as directed. After extending the struts, I then slid the spring in and it was about 3/4 inch below the top of the strut, so that gave me no preload. I expected to get some lift on the front of the bike, but it gave me a lot. I went from being almost flat footed to being up on my tip toes on flat ground. I am also having to get used to the ride being on the edge of being harsh. Hitting some off ramps that were a little bumpy before are now down right rough. I took a ride at lunch after lowering my rear shock pressure from about 60psi to about 25psi and that definately helped on the footing. I will probably need to add some air back with a passenger. I have even thought about looking at the possibility of sliding my front tubes up some in the tripple tree. The problem with that is if I slid them up a half inch, that would only make about a quarter inch difference on my footing. RandyA
  24. Yeah, but he has a thing for "ugly". RandyA
  25. Hey Dan, say your neighborhood problem has gotten a lot better since the problem house burned down? As my mom used to say, "Miracles never cease to happen". RandyA
