Girlyman can't get it up on centerstand....
Venturous Randy replied to jonsmyth's topic in Watering Hole
My bike does not have Class and being inseam challenged, I don't run much more air than I have to. As Mother noted, I removed a 1/2 inch from each leg and it makes it A LOT easier for me. Also as noted, make sure you are in neutral as that can make a big difference. I have also considered adding about 1 1/2 inches to the foot lever. What makes my bike harder for me is I have Markland passenger foot pads and they really get in the way of pushing straight down on the lever pad. As far as taking it off the center stand, with the side stand down, I rock the bike once and then push it forward and it drops off very easy. I have never understood trying to get it off while on the bike. Some say don't have the side stand down as it will hit and cause the bike to fall away from you, but mine never does that. RandyA -
It has just been relisted. The first time it did not meet the reserve at $4,999.99. As has been stated before, there is no telling how much work would be needed on that bike to make it road worthy. RandyA

Left rear turn single
Venturous Randy replied to hdroyer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dale, you are lucky, it could have been your leg or worse. Those turn signals are on ebay all the time and are a low demand item. You should be able to pick one up cheap or maybe free on here. Good luck, RandyA -
I learned something. I did not know that the MKII rotors were floating rotors with rivets. I thought the were like the MKI's, just different off set and slotted. RandyA

My magic plug is Autolite because they are cheap and run just fine for me. RandyA

Heads up display problem
Venturous Randy replied to SapperMedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I agree here and also when you have it out, check the black wires for good ground continuity. There is a write up on the soldering of the display unit. RandyA -
Reverse bleeding?
Venturous Randy replied to Bulldawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I gave up on my side bag locks a long time ago after taking them apart and greasing several times. Now, I take the three phillips head screws out that hold the lock on and slide it back and lift the bag off. When I put the bag on, I place the latch assembly on the catch and push it in place and put the screws back in. On getting the bleeding started, sometimes it helps to remove the line at the master cylinder and use your finger as a check valve when you squeeze the lever. Just cover everything up good. The paint and especially the plastic does not like brake fluid. RandyA -
Is there any way you can put a dial indicator on the disc and rotate the wheel? You may find that by seeing a "high" spot and taking the bolts out of the disk and rotating it 180º that it could be in the wheel if the "high" stays with the wheel location and not the disc. RandyA

I agree with dk on this, sounds to me like you had a lightening strike. Last summer I had a lightening strike that took out my A/C compressor and my insurance replaced it and the unit in the basement both, as the system was too old to just replace the outside unit. It just cost me my $500 deductable. I have Farm Bureau home owners. When I called FB, they just told me to have an A/C company come check it out and he said that since all three circuits were blown at the compressor, that he had replaced eight months earlier, he was sure it was a lightening strike. And, we had been having some bad storms move thru that week. He submitted the report to FB and all was taken care of immediately. RandyA RandyA

This story reminds me of a friend who bought a 750 three cylinder two stroke Kawasaki many years ago. He was always telling us how strong it ran, until he found out it was only running on two cylinders. He fixed it and took it for a ride and immediately put it up for sale. It scared the crap out of him. Those bikes were wicked in their day. RandyA

a fairly new guy with a meet and eat question
Venturous Randy replied to NCReb's topic in Watering Hole
One of my two new favorite roads came down to Marion from the BRP, I'm sure you know Hwy 80. We left north GA and went up to Rosman NC and went up NC-215 to the BRP then BRP to Mt Mitchell and then down NC-80 to Marion. That ride on 80 from Marion to the BRP is also know as the Rooster's Tail. RandyA -
Yep, they had the nice swimming area sandy beach and it was beautiful. That is also a nice ride from there to Cumberland Gap Park. I would love to get together for another ride, I know lots of roads. You just tell me how curvey you want it. Randya

Well, you tried. How are you doing? The next week after my Kentucky adventure, I rode over there again, but went down past Martin Lake all the way to Cumberland Gap Park. Had a great ride and the bike did real good. RandyA

Side cover oil leadk
Venturous Randy replied to Props's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The bottom hole is a blind hole on the stator cover and does not need a copper washer. I agree with all Props said except the part about the stator cover "pressurizing" and causing the leak. It is open to the rest of the engine and should not hold pressure. RandyA -
Yamaha torx carb nut driver- where do i get one?
Venturous Randy replied to jonsmyth's topic in Watering Hole
Use Vise Grips to break that screw loose, and probably the others, and then replace them with allen head screws. You will be glad you did. RandyA -
a fairly new guy with a meet and eat question

We just had a great get together in Asheville in mid July. Where were you then? I mean I came all the way from Tennesse to get that going and it was in your home state and you did not show any interest. Now, you want to get together with someone??? Actually, all kidding aside, what it takes is letting people know that you want to meet with them. This can be thru a Meet & Eat, or letting people know you are going on a specific trip and does anyone want to join or meet you. Show interest, like you just did and you should get some feedback. It also helps that you sponsor a big BBQ meet as I know Lexington is the heart of BBQ country in NC. Hey, I have a good friend from the USAF from Lexington, James (Jimbo) Hill that I see ocassionally. He has a cell phone/ security system place on the east end of town on Center street, I believe. RandyA Hey Blackowl, NC is like CA with beautiful mountains and great beaches with out all the crazies. -
Actually, RandyR made some good points. It is a frustration to me to have someone post about a problem and you have no idea what bike they are talking about. I end up pulling up their profile and they MAY have it listed there. In most cases, there is a big difference between a 1st and 2nd gen. There is can also be a big difference between an MKI and MKII 1st gen. It is easy to list it on their header. I also appreciate it if people note their hometown, as it may be of interest to me. Yes, there can be some misleading posts, but I will hover on the title line for a second with my arrow and the first sentence will popup and I can read it without opening it. But, some of these offbeat posts are also the most enjoyable to read. The other part of this is we have a lot of posts that get side tracked and this can be good or bad, but overall, this is a great place and I would not want to change much, maybe a little more noun-verb agreement and we do have a very good spelling program that I loaded off here, Ispell, but I won't go into any of that stuff. Thanks and glad you posted your results as I was wondering about it. I am glad it worked out for you. On mine, and I don't remember it being as much as 10mph off, I see the transition up thru the speeds to be fine. We routinely have the radar units set up along our streets to show people how fast they are going and when I can isolate myself enough from traffic, I will run thru them at various speeds. I have found that I am right on at 25mph or 65mph. RandyA
