  1. It may have been where the rubber seal is rubbing on the axle spacer and it was very dry. But, I would suggest that sometime in the future that you remove the wheel and replaced the bearings. It is not a big deal and gives better piece of mind. RandyA
  2. Today after work, I stopped by one of the local salvage yards to see if they had a window roll up for Laura's van. I was told that now they have a new yard with Cash for clunkers vehicles in it and they should have plenty. I went in and saw at least 200+ vehicles and to be honest, it looked like a pretty nice car lot. In fact, there were a lot of cars and trucks that I would be proud to own. There was an 02 Burgundy Escalade in very nice shape, a two door Seville with a Northstar engine, several Blazer SUV's that looked almost new and on and on and on. It was absolutely unbelievable that many of these vehicles were not worth more than $4,500 for a straight trade-in or private sell. They are now selling parts off them, but no engine parts. But, with "disabled" written across the windshield, the engines are worthless, since they have been seized up. I know several people that are in great need of a decent vehicle and it is truly a shame at what has happened to these vehicles. Yeah, there are some that are truly clunkers, but many were really nice. RandyA
  3. Pull the diaphragms out and look for holes and also check to see if the seat where the needle goes into is seated correctly. Are you sure you are running on all four cylinders? Start it up and let run for 20 or 30 seconds and cut it off and feel of your exhaust header pipes and see if they all are about the same temps. RandyA
  4. Could you have a small oil leak dripping down on your exhaust? RandyA
  5. Condor, my feelings exactly. RandyA
  6. The trick is, when you are riding b***h, is to carry a small plastic gas can. It does not matter if it obviously looks like it would fit in the trunk. Just carring it makes you look ligit. RandyA
  7. When I worked as the Quality Manager for an electric motor company, we did not have to turn in any receipts unless it was over $25 for any meal, we just filled out an expense report. We were told that we were to absolutely pick up the check when with customers. Those were the good old days. RandyA
  8. We are getting Indian Summer on Thursday, it is supposed to be 80º. Then for the weekend it is supposed to be in the 60's. RandyA
  9. I have probably at least a 1/2 inch freeplay and mine releases fine. Is your clutch releasing good enough to allow you to put it in gear while stopped and not pull the bike noticably? If it is, then your clutch does not sound like the problem to me. Also, I routinely change gears to 3rd, to 4th and to 5th without using the clutch. Do you ever do that? I can do this smoother than when I use the clutch. RandyA
  10. I rode thru there alone weekend before last and ate at the BBQ with the screened in area right on the river. At the moment I have no idea what I may be doing this weekend, but if it looks like I can meet up with you guys, I would love to. Maybe we can also get a few others from east Tennessee to get together. RandyA
  11. First of all, this is not Harley bashing, but Harley people bashing. You gotta admit folks, Harley Davidson does one hell of a job perpetuating their image. You really do have to respect them for that. And, they do a real good job of building a bike to fit the market they are selling to. Harleys are nice bikes and I respect them for that. That being said, a couple of years ago I paired up beside one of the Big Dog type Harleys that was extremely loud just ideling, not that the rider allowed it to idle much. The rear tire seemed about a foot wide. We were turning up a long on ramp the was two lanes going into one before it merged on to the interstate. I was on the outside lane swinging to the left and when the light went green, he turned it on and was about a bike's length ahead of me due to the shorter arc and me not wanting to get too close to his lane. There was no doubt he was wide open. So, I cranked it on too. By the time I was at about 8,000rpm,s in 1st, I was already passing him at a good clip. By the time I was that far in 2nd, I was a several bike lengths ahead and coming up behind a car in front of us getting to merge onto the highway. I had to slow a lot and he was right on me. I moved over to the left as far as I could and as soon as I was sure the car was going to stay in the right lane and nothing was coming in the left lane, I nailed it again. He again got left behind. I went off at the next exit and slowed for him to pass before I exited and he would not even look over at me, so I just had to assume I was NUMBER ONE without him indicating so. RandyA
  12. Yep, had a guy coming into my lane the other day in a SUV and I looked over and he was punching something into his GPS. I can't imagine what distraction is going to hit the market next. RandyA
  13. He didn't give you the finger, he was saying......... You're number one!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool10::cool10: RandyA
  14. Yep, ya gotta be careful with the little "o"s and the big "O"s, they can get you in trouble. RandyA
  15. Couple of suggestions; You may do better without the driver floorboards, they tend to make you have to spread your feet farther. Try to find you a seat that is lower. I picked up a Corbin that needed some repair and while I had the cover off being fixed, I took about 1 1/2 inches of foam out of my seat, and retucked the cover. How much air are you running in the shocks? Yes, the behemoths can be a bit intemidating, but you get more used to it and it does get better. RandyA
  16. Since you asked earlier from a comment I made, the Rider magazine article is in the November issue and is titled Victoria's Secrets. Melborne was his base and he toured Phillip's Island, Mornington Pensula, Yarra Valley, the Mystic Mountains and the Great Ocean Road. Very nice pictures. RandyA
  17. Yeah, the 2nd gear thing came to mind for me also with 56,000 miles. RandyA
  18. Dan, I am not aware of years other than an 83, but if I had any MKI and had the chance to do what I did in adding gussets, I would do it. Yes, the post is in the 1st gen library. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1521]83 Broken frame - VentureRider.Org[/ame] RandyA
  19. It really does help on aluminum heads as aluminum has a significantly higher expansion rate than steel does when heated. It does not have to be hot enough to burn you, but fairly warm helps. RandyA
  20. Ivan, just out of curiosity, was the engine warmed up some before you tried to remove the plug? Also, these plugs need some anti-seize on the threads before they are put in. You did not indicate you have removed the plug so what I would do after I blew around the plug to remove any debris, I would spray a penetrating lubricant around the plug and unscrew it some the screw it back in and keep repeating. You may be able to work some lubricant into the threads and save them. The biggest problem with the plug seizing is aluminum gets stuck to the plug threads and wipes the head threads away as you are removing the plug. Good luck and let us know how it turned out. RandyA
  21. If bum and butt mean the same thing, does bummer and butter mean the same thing? I mean how far can you take this stuff? Some people are just idiots. RandyA
  22. Even though I suspect it is TCI related, If you pull out the black wire in the TCI big connector, you will disconnect all of the safety curcuits. You may have to slide a knife blade behind the terminal to dislodge the locking tab. Or, you could just cut it and put a male/ female terminal on for a quick disconnect in the future. If the bike runs better, start looking at that curcuit. Oh, and with this curcuit disconnected, make sure the bike is in neutral before you hit the start button. RandyA
  23. My concern on the baffle lodging somewhere is it blocking off the flow of exhaust. RandyA
  24. Wow, great video and your handling of the camera is phenominal. It amazed me how much picture composition you were able to maintain. Ya done good and thanks for sharing that. RandyA
  25. Wow, an 880 mile day? That's a pretty good ride! Rider Magazine has an feature on the Land of Oz this month. I thought about you when I seen it. Hope you are getting better. RandyA
