  1. I have never understood why the V-6 set up is not used in motorcycles. RandyA
  2. Yep, I have to agree here, best sleep aid in the world. Sometimes I have to be awakened to finish!! RandyA
  3. I think the frustration of all this is the "potential" Yamaha has, especially with the new VMax engine. But, with all of this, I think there is one thing we can all agree on, whether it is a 1st gen, 2nd gen or whatever, Yamaha has always done a very poor job marketing their touring bike. RandyA
  4. I used to work with a woman that actually planned trips around not having to go across a bridge. Bridges don't bother me, but the picture with the guys working on it made me feel better sitting here in my chair. RandyA
  5. Best news yet!!! Glad you are home. RandyA
  6. Yeah, I came back thru San Fransisco airport in 72 and it was suggested I take off my uniform when I arrived there. What a world of difference today and I am so glad. Thanks veterans, I can not imagine what this world would be like today if it were not for the men and women who step forward. RandyA
  7. My ten year old Jardines on my 83 sound a lot a lot like a small block Chevy with glass pack mufflers under WOT!!! RandyA
  8. What is also wild is to see this sidewalk art from a different angle. It makes you realize how much thinking had to go into it to make it look real from a particular point. RandyA
  9. I know the 2nd gens are geared different and have rev limiters, but I took my 83 out for a ride today and did a little loafing around on some country roads and then when I pulled out onto a two lane highway, I cranked her on to a bit over 8,000 rpm's in 1st and 2nd and to about 6,000 in 3rd before shutting down. It was still pulling hard at over 8,000 rpm's. These motors seem to love the rpm's, so don't hesitate to take it to the rev limiter ocassionally, you are not going to hurt it any. RandyA
  10. I usually have a couple of "buddy poppies" hanging from the mirror on my cars. I will always make a stop at the guys giving them out and contribute. It is for a really good cause. Thanks for posting this Owen. RandyA
  11. Thanks for sharing your adventure as we were along also. Glad you made it home ok and you are correct, there are some great people that make up this family. RandyA
  12. One of the deaths was a local guy with two small kids and a wife. He was from Mountain City, TN., just a few miles north east of me. Real sad. RandyA
  13. 59 and been married over 40 years. One son, two grandkids and one great grandkid. Have had bike almost 14 years and have put 105,000 miles on and it is running great with a total of 128,000 miles. RandyA
  14. It is supposed to be about 73º here in east Tennessee tomorrow. But I am not supposed to be riding a motorcycle yet. RandyA
  15. Well, I survived mine, but it did not go as smooth as last time. A couple of weeks ago when I went thru my pre-op, a problem came up on my EKG. I had my pre-op on a Wednesday and was called Friday advising of the problem and I would need a Dr consult. Well, that gave me something to think about over the weekend. Anyway, I had another EKG and everything turned out fine. So, I show up at the VA yesterday morning at 6:30am and found out I was not on the list and my surgery had been canceled because of the EKG thing, but someone failed to notify me. I was a bit PO'ed to say the least. So, I went home, ate me a bowl of cereal and went to work. Just as I was walking from the car into work, I got a call. If I could come back, they could still do my surgery. They asked me if I had eaten and I said I had a bowl of cereal and they said they would call me back. Then I get a call back and was told to be there by 9am. I get there and get the process started with the half nekid gown, the IV and waiting to go in. Then I was advised that since I had eaten the cereal, they could only do a local and I would be awake thru the whole thing. That is when I should have said, "No, schedule me some other time"!!! But, I just laid there and said ok. That was a big mistake. That is one of, if not the most miserable experience I have ever been through in my life. They did give me a Valium, but it did not seem to make any difference. I went back this morning for my follow-up and got a bunch of apologies, even from the surgeon, but I am still a bit frustrated. This morning the surgeon had to drain my eye some as the pressure was so high. The surgeon also said she almost stopped the surgery because my blood pressure went so high. I guess getting eye surgery while are wide awake tends to make my blood pressure go up...duh!! I am also frustrated because I have not had the clarity in this eye as I did in the last one. I just hope it improves as it heals. As far as Laura and her heart cath, we are to be at the hospital at 6am and she seems to be on good spirits. I think she is looking forward to being put under anesthesia so she doesn't have to listen to my whining. She says I am beginning to sound like a 2nd gen. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Randy & Laura
  16. I will be having surgery in the morning for a cataract and hope it goes as good as the last time on the other eye. But the biggie is, Laura just found out today that after failing her stress test last week that Friday morning she will be having a heart cath to put a splint in due to the lower part of her heart not getting enough blood. I am afraid hers may end up with a bypass if the stint does not work ok. So, please keep us in your prayers and hope everything goes well. RandyA
  17. When I was 14, with two parents that smoked and my friends just starting, I got a motorcycle. I found I could have a lot more fun with a gallon of gas than a pack of cigarettes and never did start. My dad died of a heart attack and smoked until he died. My mom quit when I was about 18. I was in line at Golden Corral for breakfast the other morning and a couple came up behind me. The stench of tobacco was so strong, I thought I was going to be sick. I could not get away from them fast enough and made sure I did not set near them. I wish you luck and just remember, smoking is not a natural thing to do. You had to make your body learn to do it and you can do without it. RandyA
  18. Thanks Gary, as it helps me to know that it is correct to stay in the last position used. I thought I had it fixed when I found a wire that was grounding some, but after riding awhile, it started doing it again. I guess this is going to be one of my winter projects. RandyA
  19. Very good writeup dingy. I see that you have the type signal light cancel where you push down on the lever. I changed my 83 to the type I push in to cancel early. The problem I am having is the system not automatically cancelling correctly. It will cut off when it is supposed to, but later on when stopped, it will start blinking again. I can not understand why it only does it when I go back to idle. I have got to the point that I am trying to manually cancel it after I turn. If there is anyone that has the push in type, I have a question. After you use the signal and it stops blinking automatically, if you push the button in a few minutes later, does it "click" it back to center, like it would if you cancel early? That is what mine is doing. This is very frustrating as I can be at an intersection and not turning and my signal lights will start blinking from the last time I used them if I did not cancel them manually. RandyA
  20. I have seen this comment several times, but do not understand how it could work. If the piston is pushed in, it would block any flow back into the reservior from the line. Because if there was flow back from the line, there would be no pressure. Since I don't have speed bleeders, I just open the valve some and put my finger over it and pump the master. My finger works as a check valve. By doing this quickly, it pushes any air in the line into the slave and bleeds off. Once I don't feel bubbles, I will bleed by pumping up and cracking the bleed valve some, then retighten it. The down side on this is it can be a little messy, so I put a rag around my hand and you can quickly empty the reservior, so make sure you don't let it run dry. I have been using this system for many years and it has always worked for me. RandyA
  21. Yeah Steve, I wondered the same thing. RandyA
  22. I remember when I was a kid in the late 50's, early 60's and it was a different world. Kids had a blast and I mean that. Real Cherry Bombs and M80's were legal then and sometimes mailboxes were left as only a smoking stump. l also remember there were some serious injuries that some of those kids are still living with. We live in the city limits and did not have one single kid, so now I have all this candy I have to get rid of. RandyA
  23. So......, now he starts posting, now that it is getting springtime in his area!!! He will be ragging us while we are up to our a***** in snow!! (That's "ankles", as it don't snow much anymore here in east Tennessee). Hey mate, glad to have you aboard and we look forward to some good stories to keep us entertained and help us make it through our winter. RandyA
  24. Another thing that works good is a vise, if it is not too small. RandyA
  25. I think it looks pretty good and what also helped was taking all the badges off. It makes it look a lot cleaner. RandyA
