need carb help
Venturous Randy replied to bkuhr's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yeah, Dan beat me to it. Take it all off and the bike runs just fine. The only suggestion is to put good clamps on the heavy duty plug caps so a minor backfire will not blow a plug cap off. And, keep an extra plug cap or two with a clamp in your tool bag. Ask me how I know to do this. (The bike runs really bad at low rpm's with the plug cap off) RandyA -
Sounds like the country song; "Sounds like life to me". This looks like it is going to be a long tough winter. We are about 10º below normal today and this next week is going to be even worse. RandyA

Carb Jet Kit

Why do you need to replace the jets? They don't wear out and can be cleaned easily. Do you want to change jet sizes? RandyA -

I have a suspicion it is a vacuum leak and may be related to the YICS system. Take those hoses off and plug them with a good heavyduty plug. The leak may be in the hoses or the box. Monty, I have never used soapy water on a vacuum leak. How does it react? RandyA -

A couple of problems......
Venturous Randy replied to Jasondh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You are correct on the cold solder joints. Your discription of the headlight problem is classic for the CMS needing resoldered. There is a write up in the tech section I believe on this. This is usually the problem on the leveling system also. Try looking at this: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33328]Information Display Repair - VentureRider.Org[/ame] RandyA -
Believe it or not, "This too shall pass". Don, I have admired you for your ability to accept the situation with your eye as well as you have. And, with the loss of part of your vision, you will learn to adapt better as you go along. Unfortunately, those bumps in the road, or in this case, steps, can reach out and bite you. You will definitely be sore for a few days and I hope you injuries heal quickly. RandyA

From the Thursday a week before Thanksgiving until yesterday, I have lost 19 pounds. And, what is even better, before Thanksgiving I was taking 46 units of insulin and still having sugar level averages over 300 with an A1C reading of almost 12, with normal being about 6. I am now taking 18 units of insulin with morning readings of 90 to 115 and rarely getting up to 150 after a meal. I am now looking forward to my next A1C check, which is the long term test. I am not on a diet, but have made a lifestyle change. I have always been a sweet-a-holic and through the holidays I have not eaten any of the deserts that people have brought to work. I am now simply eating smaller portion sizes and I am chewing my food real good. In the past I would take a big mouthful, do a few chews and wash it all down with a big swallow of milk or Coke. Now when I get up from the table, I feel content and do not feel stuffed. When I eat out, as soon as my food is brought to the table, I will ask for a to go box and either take half or more home or to work to eat later. It was even very easy to turn down the big slice of pecan pie with ice cream yesterday because I simply did not desire any. I have also started doing some moderate exercises of deep knee bends, push ups and stomach crunches. I am also doing more walking.

On my 83 I went with sparkplug washers until I could rebuild it with heavier springs and new plates, which measured the same thickness as the old. It is my understanding that on the MKII's you can double up on the diaphragm spring. The reason I state this is I have a diaphragm spring I ran across yesterday that I was going to throw away, but if anyone wants it, let me know and I will send it to you. RandyA

Ron, as many on here have sincerely expressed, our hearts go out to you and to your friend's families. In a season of celebrating birth, it is really tough to deal with death. I truly sympathize with your feelings of sadness as this has been the saddest Christmas I have had to deal with myself. RandyA

A spin off of the Cell phone thread
Venturous Randy replied to ArticusMedicus's topic in Watering Hole
This is a very good example on the difference in todays technology in auto crashes. One is a walk away and the other is deadly. Once the video plays there are several that comes up across the bottom. The one showing the seatbelt on goes into banned commercials and some are pretty funny. RandyA -
I have to absolutely agree with you on this one Renne, the vast majority of tailgaters I encounter are either 30+ women in a van or even worse, 16 to 25 in a small import. I really think these women have no clue how volnerable they are in these small cars. I think a lot of women feel about the road as they do in a divorce, they deserve their space and most of yours. There were some pictures going around a year or so ago of some guy in a small car driving into a truck headon. The story was about texting and driving and the pictures were very graphic. They may have been removed from access. RandyA

Struggling with my VR.org addiction
Venturous Randy replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
I got off work early to meet the Comcast man and when I got here, everything was working. He said it may have been fixed somewhere else. Now, maybe the addiction jitters will go away. RandyA -
This is absolutely great news. RandyA

Need help with carberator
Venturous Randy replied to etohio's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For some reason, my memory is telling me that on one set of carbs I did, that I did take the fuel bowls off with out splitting the set up. I remember it was a little tough getting the screws loose on the bowls, but I did get them. I wouldn't swear to this, but I do believe I did it many years ago. RandyA- 16 replies

Yep, addictions are tough. Especially when you don't have access because your internet is down at home. RandyA

Struggling with my VR.org addiction
Venturous Randy replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
About 1:30 yesterday afternoon I got a call from Comcast about my tv/internet service. She wanted to know when anyone would be home. I told her I would be there about 3:45 and she told me someone would be by there. I finally called the number at 5pm and keyed in my phone onfo and a message advised me that "Looks like we have missed an appointment". I waited on hold for a while for the techinical rep to come on and finally gave up. I am not irritated at the repair crews as I know these folks are working their butts off. But, it is a bit irritating for them to give me a call to make sure I am home and then not even advise me when no one is going to show up. So, here I am at work trying to get my VR fix. RandyA -
Last Friday, the storm that went up the east coast changed from rain to snow just south of me. at about 10pm I lost my cable and internet service. I still have a few snowy channels on the tv, but that is it. Before it was over, we got at least 6 inches of heavy snow that is still here. It is supposed to be about 47 by tomorrow, so it should start melting soon. I don't remember a time in the past that I looked so forward to coming to work. The first thing I did when I got here was to go on the internet and pull up VentureRider.org. Finally, the withdrawals are subsiding and I am trying to get some work done. Man, this has been a tough 2 1/2 days. I really feel for those without power and internet. I have been there, done that and it ain't fun. RandyA

Great indepth post Fred. Welcome to the group and we appreciate your comments. After you get some seat time on your 2nd gen, if you get the opportunity, take a ride on a 1st gen, particularly an early one like an 83. It will give you a better understanding of the heritage of these great bikes. Shifting an MKI (83/85) thru the gears at 8,000 rpm's on a good running bike will surprise you for what a heavy 1200cc bike can do. RandyA -
I gotta agree with silvr on this one. $1,900 is a lot with 2nd gear gone. I did mine on the cheap about eleven years ago and later on pulled it again and put a trans in out of an 86. If you have good mechanical skills, it can be fixed without spending a lot, but it is a bit of work. RandyA

My wife and I have been dealing with workman's comp on an injury she had over five years ago. We tried very hard not to get a lawyer, but when I finally said I was tired of getting jerked around by them, I said you got one more chance before I quit talking and let a lawyer to handle it. I finally was assigned an agent that was willing to work with us. Laura has had four surgeries associated with the area around her right eye. She had what is called an eye socket bloweye. She still has to wear special glasses with prisim lens for double vision. They made an offer we had basically agreed to that I had a lawyer review. He said that's was the best she would probably get. I was notified yesterday that after they sent the proposal thur their lawyers, they upped it over $7,000 more. Go figure. The problem with workmans comp is you are dealing with two intities. Each state has their own laws and then they are paying premiums to a private insurance company, in her case Liberty Mutual. Obviously, the less an insurance company pays, the more profit they make. My best advise is to get a good doctor that is willing to assign a good impairment rating and then present WC with that and also visit a good lawyer that deals in WC on a free visit for a review. Once you offically put it in the lawyers hands, WC will no longer talk to you. Good luck and I can assure you that this can be a miserable experience, but DO NOT give up. RandyA
