    Thankfully, you were not hurt worse than you were, and especially not being run over. Several years ago I came around an off ramp that went back under the highway and about half way thru it I went into a serious 4 wheel drift due to diesel fuel being poured everywhere. After making it thru it, I pulled over and called the police for them to come look at it and get someone to clean it up. I was real glad I was not on the bike. One of the things that is done on our mountain roads is the inside edge of a curve where people will tend to drop off will get too deep. They will bring in gravel and fill the groove back up and these same people come back thru spreading the gravel back out into the road. RandyA

    If you are talking about the Asheville rally, it is scheduled for August 11-15. Look in the rally section and please consider coming. We have a great time. Usually, the Rooster Tail is one of our rides. If I am in a hot dogging mood, I actually like going up the mountain better. I just like being able to slow it down quicker. RandyA

    I upped my coverage after what happened to Yammer Dan. I had uninsured/underinsured motorist and upped my coverage just to bring that part up even more. With as many Mexicans running around here in east Tennessee without insurance or a drivers license, a person is a fool to not to have good coverage. My wife, last summer, was coming back from Alabama and ran over a mattress or box springs on I59 and tore up a bunch of stuff under her Maxima. RandyA

    I believe there can be a big downside to not giving a radar signal if you are a reasonably law abiding rider. The problem is radar picks up the strongest bounce back for a speed reading. If you are running at five over and you have a big SUV coming up from 500 feet back at fifteen over the speed limit, if the LEO is not real aware of what is going on, you just bought yourself a fifteen over ticket and you can do very little about it. This is the biggest reason I still run a radar detector on my bike. This can be especially aggravating if you meet up with an LEO that just loves to ticket a bike, and they are out there. I am against using any type of speed measuring equipment that relies on a great degree of skill for the LEO to constantly get an accurate reading. Radar, in my opinion is simply not discriminating enough. RandyA

    Mick, I believe I usually run about 38 in the front and 43/45 in the rear on my Elite III's. Not sure that is right, but it seems to work for me. RandyA

    On ride height change, remember, a tire that is 1/2 inch taller only changes the height of the bike half that or 1/4 inch. I know you all are talking about 2nd gens, but on 1st gens, I do recommend the Elite III, as the Avons were squirlly avove 70 mph and this has happened on a lot of 1st gens. Yes, the Avons were a bit more agile, but at low speed only for me. I also ran the Avon on the front and Elite III on the back for a while before the front tire became available and that was a real good combination for me. RandyA

    One of the things that I put together for both Asheville rallies is an ICE list. An In Case of Emergency list that contains the attending members name and cell number, where they are staying and expected time of arrival and someone to contact at home. On a couple of occasions we were able to call members for information and it did help to have the ICE list if a family member back home had to be contacted, but fortunately that was not required. I also gave a copy of this list to all members that attended. I put this list together thru my e-mail or PM's and asked it to be done in a simple format so all I had to do was cut and paste the information. I put this together in the week or so before the rally. RandyA

    But, there are times there is absolutely no time to get a gut feeling when someone just turns across in front of you. Not to take a shot at LEO's or traffic laws, but I wonder if this would have been one of the cops that would not have hesitated to write me a ticket for running a strobe in my headlight. A strobe in the headlight on the Wing may have kept the guy alive. RandyA

    I used to get that. Now while cruising easy in the 45 to 60mph range, two up, I am getting from 45 to 49mpg. And, mine has got 133,000 miles on it. RandyA

    What works for me is somewhere along the way I picked up one of those dense towels that motels use to put in front of the tub/shower. They are usually heavy enough that unless there is a strong wind, they won't blow off the seat. They also give some cushion and don't raise me up too much. I have tried other towels, but these work best for me. RandyA

    Glad this is coming together for you folks and one of these days I want to be there. Right now, with what I am going thru, it ain't gonna happen, even though I have the vacation time to do it. Boomer, are you going to schedule the new pump to be put on when you get back? I would think they should be able to give you a couple of hours notice to have your bike there and immediately work it in, since they will not trade parts with you and you put it on. RandyA

    I was in Thailand in 72 and I believe the general rule was the one that blew the horn first had the right-of-way. There is a bunch of those videos at the bottom and it is very difficult to figure out who has the right-of-way because there are sometimes several vehicles coming from different directions at once. RandyA

    Popping on decell is usually due to an exhaust leak pulling in oxygen and burning. Usually at the header pipe. RandyA

    Ok, if she is not your girlfriend and has all this stuff for you, what is she? Could this be another partner saga like what we were reading earlier from lilbeaver until he skipped town and left us hanging? RandyA

    On one side of the nylon washer, there is a pin the sticks out that goes into a hole on the mating part. On the otherside, there is a raised pad that sticks up about .020 or so. If you file off the raised pad, making the washer thinner, it is pretty much the same as replacing the washers. When you file off the raised pad, the washer then will fit flat. I have some pictures I thought I posted showing the raised pad, but I can not find them. When I get home, I will see if I can find them in my computer. It will make more sense to see the part or the pictures. RandyA

    Keep in mind that 46,000 is just getting into window of the 2nd gear issue if it is going to happen. This would not be a deal breaker for me, but for most, it would be. RandyA
