Found a pocketbook a young lady had left in a shopping cart at Walmart and she had just gotten to the local college from out of town and was buying supplies. Her pocketbook had all kinds of personal info, even her birth certificate where she must have used it to register. She was from a town about 100 miles away and there was not any information on how to get in touch with her. Fortunately, there was a Blockbuster Video card from her hometown and I called them and they finally gave me her cell phone number. I called her and she had not even realized yet that she had left it. The funny part was when I met up with her, I told her she would need to show me some ID and the look on her face was priceless, given I had all the ID she probably ever had. Oh, and good for you Gary!!! RandyA

Another bad accident in the Midwest.

We also had one killed here Sunday where a cager pulled across in front of a guy on a Harley dresser and the rider wreaked trying to miss the driver. No contact, but in Tennessee you can be charged the same if you caused the crash, even with no contact. RandyA- 11 replies

I have a three room tent with the center with mesh walls and the two side rooms that can be closed up. I also have a spare full size air mattress. I am going to have my small camper for me, but if anyone would like for me to bring any of this, I will be glad to let anyone use it. RandyA

Jump Speedo
Venturous Randy replied to saltcreep's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think you do. You need to remove the speedo and put some grease around the bearing on the inside on the sleeve the cable goes into on the inside of the speedo. Just putting grease in the cable hole will not help as the hole does not go all the way thru. I would also check the overall condition of the cable and drive gear at the front axle. RandyA -
Asheville Rally getting close!!!

As far as temperatures, year before last we had a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway that showed 104º on my thermometer when we dropped off the mountain when we came down to Marion. But, the next morning we awoke to 53º and the high was about 72º and clear as can be. RandyA -

Well Rooster, there goes the "shortest distance traveled" award we were putting together for you this year. RandyA -
A Needle in the Eye...not all that great

Thanks for the update big guy as I have been thinking about your situation. I had my bout last year with my second cataract surgery. The 1st one went very good, but due to a mix-up at the VA, I was sent home and then called back. Unfortunately, I had eaten a bowl of cereal in the meantime and after all the prep work and while laying on the operating table, I was told that due to me eating five hours earlier, they could not put me under. Like an idiot, I agreed to let them do cataract surgery with me wide awake. Not good. They had to stop part way thru and give me oxygen as my blood pressure got so high...duh. RandyA -
pulled over for going through red light last night
Venturous Randy replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
The trick is to lay your bike over on it's side on the ground and it will trip the light. It makes a bigger footprint. Fortunately, here in Tennessee we have lawmakers with some sense and there is a law like noted above where it is legal to run a light if it is not changing for you on a motorcycle. RandyA -
You can say this Rooster, but you have always talked a bit funny and can't walk much better!!! RandyA

Asheville Rally getting close!!!
Venturous Randy replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
I will miss you craig. You have been a great addition and a lot of fun at this get together. You might have been able to make it down and back without someone running over your bike. RandyA -
I have an old Travelite I pull with my 1st gen that weighs in at about 450lbs loaded. The bike has enough power to pull it fine thru the mountains of NC and TN, but my biggest concern is getting it slowed down quick if I needed to. It did fine a couple of years ago when I had EBC HH pads, but I believe I have Kevlar now and they are not as good. RandyA

Weekend before last while on the BRP, I encountered a couple of cars going 15 to 20mph when I came up to them. In front was a bicycle just pedelling along. At first, I thought the lead car was with the biker, but no, he was afraid to pass because it was a double yellow line. After passing a couple of good places for him to pass, I finally hit the air horns and finally the biker started frantically waving him around. He finally passed the biker and went on, and the next chance I had, I passed the idiot in the car. It ain't just people on bikes, there are some real stupid people in cars too. RandyA

In the last few months, I have plugged two rear tires. I plugged an Elite 3 that was about half worn out just to get me around a few weeks and it actually took two plugs in the same hole to get the leak to stop. I replaced it with a new E-3 and last weekend put a hole in it. It was almost in the center of the tread and not in a groove area. I plugged it to get me home and then removed the tire and buffed the inside and put a heavy duty patch over the area. I can honestly say that I am not concerned about mine at all. I would rather it not be plugged/patched, but I am not worried about it. RandyA

Given there is not going to be a Vogal rally for the southeast this year, I was expecting a bit more response to us having an Asheville Rally. So far, I am getting very little response on my request to do an ICE list. For those of us that have been to either of the previous Asheville get-togethers, you know it is a laid back gathering and we have a lot of fun. For those that have not been to this rally, or in this area, this is truly a motorcyclist's paradise. You can not get much better riding than this, in just about anywhere. Usually, the biggest problem is trying to decide which direction you want to go. And, for those staying at the KOA site, it is a perfect place for us to get together. I know the date is a little later in the year and many have kids in school by now, but I am hoping before this gets going that we have a bunch show up. If there are any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to ask on here, or send me a PM and I will try to help. I plan on being there in the afternoon on Wednesday the 11th and will be leaving out Sunday. I will be in campsite #21 by the lilly pond. RandyA

Muffler for 83 venture
Venturous Randy replied to paysaw's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Are you sure it was the muffler or the collector that broke? I have seen this problem more with collectors than mufflers. RandyA -

Question of the day.
Venturous Randy replied to Cruser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I also suspect that you may have a pilot jet issue in at least one or more carbs. The range you are talking about is when the pilot jets are the most effective. RandyA -
I am again wanting to do an attendance list of emergency numbers for folks coming to Asheville this year. Thankfully, we did not have to use the info for a crash situation, but it was used a couple of times to retrieve a bike that had a mechanical problem, and some coordinating of meet-ups. I would like to use this format so I can just do a cut & paste: It also helps if you keep it a simple font and no color. Your name(s), phone numbers, where staying, estimated arrival, emergency contact number with name or relationship. Randy Atkins 423-726-0431 , KOA, Wed noon, 423-335-1484/423-257-8666, son Please forward it to my home email; rsatkins@comcast.net or PM me here. I will have copies for everyone upon arrival and will be glad to e-mail you a copy before you leave of the info I have by Tuesday night. Thanks, RandyA

I really do appreciate the comments, phone calls and advice and I know it is coming from friends. The sad part about this is my future ex can be a great person. The problem is she has suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder for years and it is getting worse. If you are not familiar with BPD, Google it. She takes an anti depressant for it and if she takes it correctly and keeps her diabetes in reasonable control, she can be a sweetheart, as many have seen at either Asheville or Vogal. The problem is the other side of her that I have had to deal with and the event that happened when we separated got her put in jail. She has always been a person with a big feeling of entitlement and it is really coming out now. I have always been a big enabler and when you put those two together, it will literally run you into the ground. The good part so far is now that I am caring about myself, I have lost 55 pounds and my diabetes is in the best control in many years and I am off insulin. The other good part is there are no minor children involved. Our son is 40 and the two grandkids are 19 and 20. We have been married over 41 years so any assets are part of the marriage. What this basically comes down to is this is the divorce she wanted and the divorce I needed. RandyA

So far, no good. We did agree on several things, but she is demanding $500 a month alimony. Right now I am having to pay $200 a month spousal support and that has really got me tight along with paying for all the bills, including a $8,000 credit card that was 90% hers. It looks like now that the only ones that will have any money left is the lawyers. Thanks everyone for the comments, I really do appreciate them. RandyA

I am leaving work for our mediation in a few minutes. For someone that put very little into a marriage, she sure wants a lot out of it. hummmm... what is a 27 year old Yamaha with 135,000 miles on it worth anyway? RandyA

I will be 60 on Sept 25 and have had my 83 for 14 1/2 years and have put 112,000 miles on it. RandyA

Last Friday I encountered, for the first time in the 112,000 miles that I have ridden this bike, fuel coming from one of the over flow tubes. Once I isolated the correct carburator, which was the right rear one, I pulled the hose off going to the fuel inlet port and blew compressed air into the bowl. It did blow some gas out of at least one of the top jets, but after I started the bike up, it fixed the problem. Since then, I have put almost 600 miles on it and it is running great. If you don't have compressed air, you could probably just spray some carb cleaner into the inlet port and do the same thing, especially if you can seal up the inlet tube and spray tube some. RandyA
