  1. That's a real good place to mount a radar detector. That's where I have mine mounted. RandyA
  2. There is a front moving thru our area on the other side of the mountain in Tn on Friday that may bring some rain, but the Weather Channel is not saying Marion will get rain. Make sure you have some warm clothes as you may see temps down to around 50º after the sun goes down. I would love to meet up on Sat for a visit, but I need to get a bunch of stuff done around here. RandyA
  3. Don, about everything you have noted can be done around here. Steve (SGN) is a great guy and he is sincere in his offer. If you could get the stuff together and set a date, we could have a maintence day for anyone that wants to help on your bike or work on their own. It don't take much to make us happy. But, I am a lot more interested in helping you work on your bike than doing it for you. It is kind of like the teaching the man to fish thing. RandyA
  4. I heard on CNN this morning that there are winds in the middle up to 175mph at times. This one may be bad, but it could have been much worse if it was not as far off shore. RandyA
  5. Why give him negative feedback when it was exactly like it was advertized. Remember, education is expensive and this one just cost a bit. Learn from it and go on. Next time spend the effort to look around and then make a decision. RandyA
  6. We are supposed to have an absolutely beautiful weekend here in east Tenn. Mid 70's to low 80's with night temps near 50º. Gonna be fall soon. Randya
  7. I have been thinking about you all over there. I hope you get thru this with minimal damage and yes, the best thing to do is get away from it. I am still hopeing to maybe get down that way around the weekend of the 25th, which is one of those special birthdays in a person's life. We will just have to see how it goes. I wish you all the best, RandyA
  8. Not a real good picture. That one looks like it got run over by a truck. Can you add some more pictures? RandyA
  9. I used to hang my helmets on the mirrors or seat or somewhere. I now lock them up even if I am going to be close by. My passenger helmet has the Chatterbox intercom on it and with it being an almost new helmet, I would hate to loose it. Mine is a little rough and painted purple like the bike. When I got my bike, I moved the helmet locks from the crash bar where it got into the back of the passenger's legs to under the seat. I again moved them a while back to where they are much more useable. If anyone wants pictures to how I mounted them, let me know. I also used the bracket to lock down the trunk more solid. RandyA
  10. I suspect driveshaft splines in the rearend. Have you ever taken the rearend off and greased the driveshaft where it goes into the rearend? RandyA
  11. On my 83, I run one up at about 30/35 and two up closer to 50, especially if I am going to be in the twisties. I always run the damper on 4. I have progressives in the front with no air. RandyA
  12. Yep. I see that now. RandyA
  13. This seems a bit pricey to me. RandyA http://cgi.ebay.com/87-model-yamaha-venture-royal-/320578578158?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item4aa3f8e6ee
  14. I have a back bottom tooth that my dentist told me I may need a future root canal. I checked around on prices and it too was about $800. I mentioned to my sister that this was a lot of money for about 15 minutes work. Her response was "Would you rather him to take an hour to do it?" I will be 60 in less than a month and I still have 27 of my real teeth left, so I guess I am doing pretty good so far. RandyA
  15. Maybe you need to take it back apart and wrap the coil back around the driveshaft? RandyA
  16. Very interesting. I wondered what he lowered the reserve to? RandyA
  17. Get a reversable unit that also puts out heat. Great on you getting a camper. As old as mine is, I really enjoyed it at Asheville this year. RandyA
  18. Probably stator cover as that is what the transmission shifting rods go thru. RandyA
  19. Wow, you guys are good!! Actually, one of my goals as part of this 2nd gen in my 1st gen transmission change also includes going to solid motor mounts. I want to also be able to remove the side bars the side panels mount to like in the picture in my avatar. RandyA
  20. At one time there was a print of all the dimensions for the solid motor mounts noted on here. I made a copy of it, but I not only can I not find the copy I made, but I also can not find the post that had the print noted. Does anyone have a copy of the print that has the dimensions noted? Thanks, RandyA
  21. Wow David, that's a pretty good tip!!! RandyA
  22. My first suggestion with you running a bunch of stuff thru your carbs is to put in new sparkplugs and check the caps and wires. The caps have a resistor in them that can get corroded and cause all kinds of problems. RandyA
  23. Wow, that's interesting. Looks like you may have been the first one to go into that area of the bike since it was new. I cannot imagine getting that tape worm in that area any other way. I am surprised the thing did not make a bunch of noise before. As far as your current noise, it could be the nut is now being broken off the pinion, but I would think that would be more pronounced during decelleration than what you are describing. RandyA
  24. flb_78 keeps saying this is fake because the lines on the road moved. The scene is being recorded by a camera on a tripod that swivels. When the impact occured, it appears to me that the cameraman was simply surprised and it cause him to move the camera more. It may be staged, but the lines on the road comment does not hold water for me. RandyA
  25. Several years ago I went to Walmart and picked up an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer or about $9. The outdoor part has a wire on it with a small thermocouple on the end. I mounted the thermometer above my left vent, which now has a radar detector in it and run the wire up under my mirror boot and it sticks out just below the mirror. I like this because it is in the shade and still well out in the wind. I have had it on my bike for many years and it still works well. I have also have the same thermometer in both of my cars. I may try to post a picture when I get home from work. RandyA
