  1. Yesterday, here in north east Tennessee, I don't believe we got above 21º and it is only about 20º right now. We are to see a warming trend in the next few days, but not even up to our normal high. This looks like it may be a repeat of last year, where there were periods of a month or so where I did not even start the bike. Normally I was able to ride some each month and I am not a cold weather rider like some. But, on a positive note, in about two weeks it will be the first day of winter. RandyA
  2. If you are talking about "absolutecycles09", I have already taken issue with a shipping cost of $125 on a 1st gen rear shock with an opening bid of 99 cents. I called him and he returned my call and I asked what the deal was and he said he had to make his money someway. I noticed he did us a big favor on the shock and reduced the shipping cost to $75. I also noticed it never sold and he has it listed again. There are those out there that don't look closely at shipping cost and sooner or later, he will catch him one. RandyA
  3. Maybe Steve Neal (SGN) will chime in as he has one. We used it on mounting an Elite 3 on my bike and it worked pretty good. RandyA
  4. You are lucky as they are both GOOOOOOD PEOPLE. You spoke of Johnson City, TX and I wish I had them in Johnson City, TN. RandyA
  5. I guess I am a wuss as I had to quit watching it! RandyA
  6. I just ordered 50 more checks and was surprised at how expensive they were and the shipping semed like a lot. I use Bank of America. I am also down to writing very few checks and don't even use a check register anymore. I used to balance my checkbook to the PENNY every month and now I just monitor it on line. I use my debit card for about everything. I have automatic deposit from work, but seldomly ever go thru the ATM. It is just so convient to do the extra cash at Walmart or other places that take my debit card. RandyA
  7. Happy Birthday kiddo and I hope you have many more great ones!!!! RandyA
  8. I have talked to several repair shops on lawnmowers and I have been told that the biggest problem they are seeing are ethanol related problems on seals, gaskets and rubber parts that worked fine for many years with gasoline. RandyA
  9. You should be able to safely murge into an open lane, even if there are cars in the passing lane. Sometimes you have to do this unless you want to stop and wait until nothing is coming in either lane and that would be a lot worse and I still see people that do not know how to murge. I always try to look real hard at people that are in the fast lane to see if they use their signal and if they will still cut into you as mraf noted. I usually get a little agressive on speed and will actually be going faster than the left lane traffic and then slow down a little after I am in the lane. That keeps someone from coming up from behind and cutting into you. I will also try to make a special point to make room for someone that moved over to let me in to get back in the slow lane easily. I hate to sound sexist here, but what scares me most is a woman in an SUV with a cell phone. They seem to feel invincible and are not paying attention to anyone else. RandyA
  10. Anyone have any dealings with Ben's Outlet? There may be some good deals, but I am not familiar with them. RandyA http://bensoutlet.com/products
  11. I have called 911 several times lately on what appeared to be impaired drivers and have even stayed in sight of them to give their current direction. I feel it is better for them to be checked out than to hurt or kill someone else. RandyA
  12. I feel I have a lot to be thankful for also. A year ago I was just starting on what ended up being a divorce after a 41 year marriage and I am happy everything has turned out for the best. I ended up with the house, cars, motorcycle along with garage and lots of tools and best of all a little sanity still left. She is now down in Alabama with her family and plans on staying and I think that is best for all. So, when I compare last year at this time with this year, I am doing pretty good. I also know I have a real big family here that has helped me get thru all this and I will always be thankful for that. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving. RandyA
  13. Like many early Ventures, my 83 probably has a stuck valve and I would be afraid to mess with it. It is on reserve and that is fine with me. So far, with putting almost 120,000 miles on this bike, I have never run out of gas. I just try to be aware of the bars and according to what my riding plans are, will fill it at two bars or 40 miles after the light has come on. After I made the washer mod on the needle jet, I have gone at least 225 miles and not worried about running out of gas. I routinely am at 150 miles and have two bars left. Actually, the bike can go a lot farther than I can. RandyA
  14. Yeah, you remind me of that country song "Purty good at drankin beer". Thanks and you are welcome over anytime. RandyA
  15. Thanks for all the support and suggestions. Actually it went really easy. I took off work about an hour early and when I got there they had it out and by the time I got the bar off the back of my trailer and the ramp attached, two guys were ready to roll it on. I positioned it off slightly to the right side and had room to set the 83 engine. I strapped everything down and in a few minutes was ready to roll. I did look thru their Venture parts boxes and bought two passenger floorboards, another rectifier and a dash cover for a total of $20. I am really impressed as to how complete this bike is and how good of condition all the plastic is in. Even the corners of the fairings near the mirrors are not scratched. It is a Royale and does appear to have some buttons missing on the radio pad. Not only did the one key fit everything, but even the side bags came off easily with just a turn of the key. The 83 engine looks surprisingly clean and has not been pressure washed. Even the clearcoat on the side covers looks very good. It looks like it may really be a 30,000 mile engine as I was told. My son was waiting on me when I got home and seemed real exited about the bike and he has always been a crotch rocket kind of guy. I think he is finally growing up and his new wife has already told him she is not getting on another bike like the FZ1 he had earlier. So, life is good and the winter projects begin. RandyA
  16. That's really cool. I spent 15 years with a company that had a plane and 8 years as the Corporate Quality Manager over four plants in three states. I spent a lot of time on their Piper Cheyenne twin turbo prop and usually always flew in the co-pilot seat and several times took over the controls while at altitude. It was great and I always loved to fly and still wish I had pursued getting a license. RandyA
  17. Well, I wasn't planning on going this afternoon to pick up the bike because I was scheduled to close on the refinance on my home at 4pm. But, after calling Wells Fargo to verify where I was supposed to be, the lady informed me it had been changed to tomorrow and she realized she had failed to notify me. So, given that tomorrow is 60% chance of rain and Wednesday is going to be horrible traffic getting around Asheville, NC, I went home at lunch and picked up the trailer and am going to try to get it done today. For some reason, I am a little apprehensive about this. Mostly, just getting the bike loaded on the trailer, especially since it is not running. I am also going to have to find someplace to put the extra engine and maybe a whole bunch more parts if he will let them go cheap. I guess my little Maxima is going to be loaded down. So now I am sitting here trying to function for a couple more hours until I can get out of here. I must say, it is a beautiful 70º day and maybe that is a good sign. Wish me luck, RandyA
  18. Another thing to check is the accuracy of your air gage. You may be lower than you think and I think you are way too low. Another thing mentioned is steering head bearings. Many of these older bikes need the bearings cleaned and regreased or replaced and kept pretty tight. When the bearings get cruddy, you will find yourself constantly correcting what should be natural tracking. I have the E-3's and like them better than the Avons as they seem much more stable from 70 on up and I have put almost 120,000 miles on my 83 since I have had it. RandyA
  19. Well, I got my $44.49 Motorola GPS in the mail yesterday. At first, I was a little concerned as when I turned it on, I was about a half mile from the house. But, in a couple of minutes it had me spot on. I programmed home on it and went for a ride and at about 7 miles away, I asked it to take me home and it worked perfectly. I also compared the speed and it seemed right on and it gives altitude/elevation and that seemed real close. So, even though I am not much of a GPS person, it may come in handy when I am looking for something. It also has two mounting systems, one that works good on the windshield and one that had a stiff but flexible extension and I can make that work real good on the bike. I just wish now that I had bought two of them. RandyA
  20. Be careful of any parts listed by "absolutecycle09". He will list a part that might bring $30 to $50 in an auction with a starting bid of .99. But when you look at his shipping cost he may have $100 on that item. I called him on a rear shock he had $125 shipping on and asked why the high charges and he said I have to make my money someway on it. I asked why he did not just raise his minimum bid and he would not answer. He is just looking for someone that does not look at the shipping charge and will buy something. RandyA
  21. Thanks mini for posting this and please give my best to Authur and family. They are a great bunch of folks and I was blessed to meet them during my birthday bash. RandyA
  22. I can truly understand how you feel. I can honestly say that with going thru a divorce after a 41 year marriage and all associated with that, I don't know how well I would have survived had it not been for the therapy I got from the time on the motorcycle. In fact, I put 50% more miles on the bike this year than any in the 15 years I have had this bike. Whether it was a sunny day or not, there were days when I took off that I just seemed to be riding out from under a big black cloud into beautiful sunshine, and you can't get much better therapy than that. I hope you get in a good ride into a sunny and bright day. RandyA
  23. Earl is right on this one, as usual, it is the bearing in the speedometer where the cable goes into. I usually have taken the speedometer out of the dash and lubed the bearing from the inside, but I now have a fitting I made to not have to do that. The hole where the cable goes into does not go thru so any lube needs to go between the bearing and the housing. For anyone else that may experience this, don't keep riding or you may ruin the bearing. If you have to, take the cable housing loose at the wheel and pull the cable out and put away somewhere so it will not slide out of the housing. 24. Best wishes to you Bob. You are in our thoughts and prayers. RandyA
