  1. Ahhhhhhh......, I better not say as I am getting ready to cut this thing off. RandyA
  2. They were made from 1989 to 1998 and were a pretty neat bike. The price seems high to me as I have seen them for a lot less around here. RandyA
  3. The following is an e-mail I sent out to several friends and family about sending and forwarding e-mails. If anyone wants to copy this and also send it to anyone, go for it. I hope it makes sense. RandyA My e-mail New Years Resolution This one is a little different and it is one I am also going to ask that you also do. You may notice that it looks like I just sent this to you only, when actually, I sent it to over ten people. The reason it looks this way is I put everyone's e-mail name/address in the BCC box rather than in the TO or CC box. I have been trying to do this for awhile, but a current post on my motorcycle web site about virus problems being associated with e-mails being passed around suggested the very same thing to keep them to a minimum. First of all, I want to say that I really do enjoy the e-mails that many of you send me. Some are inspirational, some are informative, some are really funny and some are downright naughty. I love them, but I have to say that when I open an e-mail and there is a history of many, many names and e-mail address being shown as to where it had been sent, it always concerns me. I know that my e-mail address is also being forwarded as part of the history. This is also how many of our e-mail addresses end up being part of a phishing expedition and how spam gets forwarded and how some of you got an e-mail that looked like it was sent from me recently trying to get you to buy Viagra. This is real simple and only takes a minute. When you forward an e-mail, highlight all those addresses and occasional comments and simply delete them. And, it also makes it look like I took the extra effort to send an e-mail to just YOU and you alone and don't that make you feel special? Thanks everyone and I hope you all are going to have as great of a New Year as I am planning on having!!
  4. Don, do you have any idea whether they were rust related or just cracked and split like mine did? I personally am not aware of any others that I have seen and I don't remember any specific posts on here about someone's frame breaking but I know they have. I seem to remember someone talking about replacing a frame to a later model, but I don't remember the details. RandyA
  5. Carl, I have heard only 83 and that is from rust, but mine was not from rust. I think it would be good to strengthen any of them the way I did mine, but it is probably not necessary. RandyA
  6. Man, I started to say something about Katrina getting bigger, but I won't!!! RandyA
  7. You are absolutely correct Jeff, but given the alternatives, I feel my bike has forgiven me and has made me proud. RandyA
  8. For those of you that are doing some major repairs on your 83, such as transmission repairs or whatever, I suggest you think about doing what I did as a frame repair, even though you have not experienced a frame breakage as I did 4 1/2 years and probably 35,000 miles ago. Even though I don't feel it is a common problem of frame breakage, I do feel that if you are serious about keeping your bike on the road and having the structural integrity it needs, this is something I think you should seriously consider. 9. Actually, I suspect frame breakage is pretty rare. I have noted a post I did about four years ago and I have put about 35,000 miles on my bike since I had my problem. As you can see, it is not something you can run by the welding shop and in 15 minutes you are on your way. To be done right, I think the bike needs to be turned upside down or at least laid over on it's side and that would only be if you were having rods welded in like I did and the frame was still in it's original place. Also, as you can see, my bike did not break from being rusted. I believe my problem was from spinning the bike around while on the centerstand and some less than adaquate welds from the factory. I still spin the bike around with it on the centerstand, but now I have a steel wheel mounted on one of the feet and it works very good on smooth concrete. 10. Thanks Margret for the update. I was wondering how you were doing. I talked to Arthur and he told me yesterday he thought you were mostly just going to get rain, but it looks like you got more than that. We got about four inches here as most of it went south of us. RandyA

  12. Brad, I wish you and Lonna the best and feel personally blessed to have met the two of you. You have been a true inspiration for many of us. RandyA
  13. Thanks Lew and I hope to see you and Charlene this coming year as I believe this is the first year since Vogal One I have not seen you. Hope you two have a great Christmas and New Year. RandyA
  14. I have been part of Venturerider since right before Vogal One as I was so fortunate to run into Don and Susan Harrell down in Birmingham, AL. I was part of another site that was just not working out for me and am very happy to be part of this one. The tone of caring and helpfulness on this site is nothing less than remarkable. With what I was going thru this time last year and how far I have come to this point, there is no doubt in my mind that my several times a day dose of this crazy bunch has been a big part of my success and I will never forget it. Thanks to everyone and I hope next year will be a great New Year to everyone. RandyA
  15. How about those of that hosted an event that you did not show to, but we missed you anyway!! We wish you the best. RandyA
  16. You need to get yourself in the frame of mind that if repairs are needed, do it yourself or get help from friends like us. Very few shops will want to touch these bikes. You will be surprised at how many on here will be glad to help, especially in helping you do things. RandyA
  17. For some reason, people think that a mattress and box spring set will stay in the back of a truck without being secured. A couple of years ago we had a death locally from a mattress and about two years ago my ex was coming back from Alabama and hit a box springs in the middle of the interstate that done a bunch of damage to her Maxima. RandyA
  18. That was a wonderful video to watch as I am sitting here at work eating lunch counting the minutes to get out of here. I am really getting to the point of suffering from PMS and I know that now the days are getting longer and spring will get here one of these days. RandyA
  19. If you go the Blue Ridge Parkway in the spring, keep in mind that the crest of the mountains run a bit behind the valley. You will have trees budding out in late May that will bud out in April in the valleys. If you have never spent any time on the BRP, it is one of the greatest motorcycle rides around, especially if you take the time to get to see the local areas. RandyA
  20. Less than three months ago I was divorced after 41 years. We all make mistakes and sometimes try to make things work that were not ment to be. This great family was very important to me and I will never forget them. I have also been fortunate to have met a very special person and look forward to the future. Hang in there and be positive, you may be surprised some day as to how good life can be. RandyA
  21. This is something I don't think we think a lot about, having debris thrown into us off the road from another vehicle. This is one of those random tragic events of life. RandyA http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/12/20/alabama-mother-killed-pothole/?test=latestnews
  22. My first question is did you have adaquate anti-freeze in it? Not sure about the 2nd gens, but most engines have a freeze plug if it does not freeze too solid to do damage. Do you have any idea where the leak is coming from? RandyA
  23. By blocking off the anti-dives, would that not be like having the anti-dives engaged all the time as far as how the suspension works? I have thought about doing that, but I am afraid it would make the suspension too stiff. RandyA
  24. Would you be talking about Ken's? RandyA
  25. Did you see the 1st gen over in Richmond that had an opening bid of $99 and was suposedly complete less motormount bolts? There was not a single bid on it and it was said to have only about 13,000 miles on it. RandyA
