  1. Yeah, I saw Linda out in the garage talking to you. And, I later saw carbs on your bike and not mine, but at least now you seem to be making some headway. RandyA
  2. I hope you have a good birthday buddy and we all miss you. RandyA
  3. No Mick, you can call me about anything as long as you call me when your wife does some of her good cooking. RandyA
  4. One area that some people have a problem with and that is the initial breaking down of the tire away from the bead. I have found that a vise works good at times. The other thing is use plenty of lube like soapy water to take the tire off. RandyA
  5. If you read the comments, it is amazing how quick those pop up that have the attitude that if you are stupid enough to ride a motorcycle, you get what you deserve. I better stop right here. RandyA
  6. Thanks mini and I've been thinking about you both. RandyA
  7. On my 83, which is stock other than Jardine mufflers, a good shift point is about 8,000 rpms, but you got a second gen and .........well, I won't say anymore cause you are new here. RandyA
  8. Thanks dingy, but I don't. I have the 86 trans in the 83 engine I will be taking out of my bike. I have another 86 trans I bought because it was so cheap at $25 that I may put into the 30K mile 83 engine that I am hoping to put the 2nd gen Venture trans in. Thanks anyway. RandyA
  9. Why do you think you need one? Most fuel level problems are usually terminal related. Just curious. Randya
  10. I agree with Ken, I almost always mount and balance my own tires, even though we have a local independent shop that gladly mounts and balances your own tires for a good price. Taking off and mounting may be some work and not everyone has an air compressor, but for these high prices quoted, you could buy a small compressor and have it forever. As far as balancing. I just put the axle through the bearings and set the axle on jack stands. I have never had a problem doing this and you can pick up some weights that will clip on cheap. RandyA
  11. Thank you Squidley and it may even take me a little time to get used to it. On the only other site I belong to, Maxima.org, I have always been Venturous. RandyA
  12. For a long time I have considered changing my name, but the name I was interested in, Venturous, was already taken. But it has been almost two years since they were on and no longer a supporting member, so Freebird has changed my name. The other reason I wanted to do this is my son Brian, who has joined as Lil Venturous and I am very happy about that. So, I am now Venturous and I plan to be a lot more active than the last venturous. RandyA
  13. Yep, same answer he just gave me too. RandyA
  14. Just remember, the abbrivation for yankee is yank and if you look "yank" up in the dictionary, it says "jerk". RandyA
  15. That is one of those good days you will always remember. I hope there will be many, many more of them for you and him. RandyA
  16. It never seems to fail that this time of year when it warms up a little, bad things happen to people on motorcycles. A couple of weeks ago with a little bit of a warm up, we had two motorcycle fatalities. One was a man and the other biker was a woman. It both cases, it appears to have been due to losing control and hitting something. I always hate to see this and I know that I am always a little apprehensive when I first get the bike out. I also like to get some seat time before I take on a passenger. Anyway, be careful out there and watch out for others no watching out for you and there always seems to be more stuff on the road. RandyA
  17. Yeah Dan, the add is now back and I never got an answer to my questions. RandyA http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-yamaha-xvz1200-xvz-1200-venture-ym85-transmission-/250771526470?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6325d346
  18. Gone and I did not even get a response from him. In my request, I even asked if was an 85 trans, what was the serial number on the bike. RandyA
  19. Thanks Carl. I sent the guy a note and told him there were too many discrepencies. I did not notice all this. Thanks and I agree with you. RandyA
  20. I don't usually post ebay listings on here because I feel if someone is paying attention to a listing on something they want, someone else should not post to the world of others too lazy to keep up with it. But, with the last transmission I picked up from an 86, which is after the correction, and me getting it for $25 plus a little shipping, there does not seem to be a lot of interest. So, I am going to post this and see if anyone is interested as in my mind this is absolutely the best way to fix a 2nd gear problem on an early 1st gen. With this and a few gaskets, I have not doubt you could end your 2nd gear problems forever as this is the way I did it several years ago on my bike. If anyone has any questions, just let me know. 21. Well, since you are from that area near Kings Mountain, maybe you can help us out some on where to go, what to see and maybe even an economical place to spend the night. RandyA
  22. Charlie, I'm coming up blank on this one. RandyA
  23. Photoshop? Ok, what am I missing, as I didn't look too hard? RandyA
  24. The History Channel just did a story on the Overmountain March that started at Sycamore Shoals in Elizabethton, Tn and ended up At Kings Mountain,NC. Is is said it may have been the turning point in The Revolutionary War. I have been thinking about sometime this spring or summer in loosely taking the same ride, starting in Elizabethton and riding across the mountain, spending the night somewhere and then visiting Kings Mountain State Park in NC. What I have been thinking about, since I only live about ten miles from Elizabethton, is making it kind of an open get together for anyone interested. I have four bedrooms that I am restocking after the divorce, plenty of room for anybody that wants to camp, plus my little camper and a three room tent. We could all chip in a little and grill out, or eat out or what is preferred, kind of like the Asheville Rally, real laid back and fun. We could even look at a bit of time set aside for some maintenance, like carb sync's and maybe Steve Neal (SGN) could bring over his tire changer and we could mount it somewhere, if anyone may want to come a day or two earlier. Anyway, this is just in the dreaming stage and I thought I would throw it out. We also have Jonesborough, TN, which is the oldest town in Tennessee and was the original capital of what would have been the 14th state, which would have been Franklin, but some say that Chattanooga, Franklin just don't come out right. Jonesborough is about seven miles from my house. Anyway, it is going to be about 14 degrees tonight and I am just dreaming and wondering if there is any interest. RandyA A little cut and paste: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sycamore_Shoals http://www.sycamoreshoalstn.org/Where%20Liberty%20Began.htm In The Winning of the West, Theodore Roosevelt wrote of Kings Mountain, "This brilliant victory marked the turning point of the American Revolution." Thomas Jefferson called it, "The turn of the tide of success." Herbert Hoover's address at Kings Mountain said, "This is a place of inspiring memories. Here less than a thousand men, inspired by the urge of freedom, defeated a superior force intrenched in this strategic position. This small band of Patriots turned back a dangerous invasion well designed to separate and dismember the united Colonies. It was a little army and a little battle, but it was of mighty portent. History has done scant justice to its significance, which rightly should place it beside Lexington, Bunker Hill, Trenton and Yorktown." In 1931, the Congress of the United States created the Kings Mountain National Military Park on the site of the battle. The park headquarters is in Blacksburg, South Carolina, and hosts hundreds of thousands of people each year
  25. Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, surely i can't look that old. Well . . . You'll love this one. My name is alice , and i was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his dds diploma on the wall, which bore his full name. Suddenly, i remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 30-odd years ago. Could he be the same guy that i had a secret crush on, way back then? Upon seeing him, however, i quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, i asked him if he had attended morgan park high school ... 'yes. Yes, i did. I'm a mustang,' he gleamed with pride. When did you graduate?' i asked. He answered, 'in 1975. Why do you ask?' you were in my class!', i exclaimed. He looked at me closely. Then, that ugly, old, bald, wrinkled faced, fat-a$$ed, gray-haired, decrepit son-of-a-b***h asked, 'what did you teach???
