  1. No.......wait........ if it is on the internet, it must be true!!!!! RandyA
  2. Michael, I have done it both ways. About 12 years ago, i tore down my 83 and undercut and matched 2nd and 5th gear. 60,000 miles later I had an 86 trans and pulled it apart and dropped it in. I have put probably 30,000 plus miles on it and it is working great. I am not sure about this, but I have heard that the spring that ultimately pushes on the thrust washer is not as strong on the 86 up transmissions and it reduces wear on that area. These transmissions pop up on ebay ocassionally and rarely go for a lot of money. RandyA
  3. Man, now I will be humming that all day. RandyA
  4. Hey Mark, it is easy to download ieSpell.com and it works great. The only problem is it does not tell you that you have a problem if you use the wrong word that is spelled correctly. RandyA
  5. I may could have believed this if it had stated that this July would had these days and all would be sunny, perfect for riding and it would only rain sometime during the week and not be too dry to get into the drought mode. Now that may have been a statistic that only happened once in 823 years. RandyA
  6. To each their own, but I feel just the opposite. The possibility with taking off with the sidestand down and the possibility of hitting the start button with the bike in gear and the clutch out when on the sidestand far outweigh any advantage I could think of with what you say. In fact, probably 95% of the time, I use putting the sidestand down as the way to kill the engine when riding. RandyA
  7. Wow, you made my morning!!! RandyA
  8. Yeah, I saw Linda out in the garage talking to you. And, I later saw carbs on your bike and not mine, but at least now you seem to be making some headway. RandyA
  9. I hope you have a good birthday buddy and we all miss you. RandyA
  10. No Mick, you can call me about anything as long as you call me when your wife does some of her good cooking. RandyA
  11. One area that some people have a problem with and that is the initial breaking down of the tire away from the bead. I have found that a vise works good at times. The other thing is use plenty of lube like soapy water to take the tire off. RandyA
  12. If you read the comments, it is amazing how quick those pop up that have the attitude that if you are stupid enough to ride a motorcycle, you get what you deserve. I better stop right here. RandyA
  13. Thanks mini and I've been thinking about you both. RandyA
  14. On my 83, which is stock other than Jardine mufflers, a good shift point is about 8,000 rpms, but you got a second gen and .........well, I won't say anymore cause you are new here. RandyA
  15. Thanks dingy, but I don't. I have the 86 trans in the 83 engine I will be taking out of my bike. I have another 86 trans I bought because it was so cheap at $25 that I may put into the 30K mile 83 engine that I am hoping to put the 2nd gen Venture trans in. Thanks anyway. RandyA
  16. Why do you think you need one? Most fuel level problems are usually terminal related. Just curious. Randya
  17. I agree with Ken, I almost always mount and balance my own tires, even though we have a local independent shop that gladly mounts and balances your own tires for a good price. Taking off and mounting may be some work and not everyone has an air compressor, but for these high prices quoted, you could buy a small compressor and have it forever. As far as balancing. I just put the axle through the bearings and set the axle on jack stands. I have never had a problem doing this and you can pick up some weights that will clip on cheap. RandyA
  18. Thank you Squidley and it may even take me a little time to get used to it. On the only other site I belong to, Maxima.org, I have always been Venturous. RandyA
  19. For a long time I have considered changing my name, but the name I was interested in, Venturous, was already taken. But it has been almost two years since they were on and no longer a supporting member, so Freebird has changed my name. The other reason I wanted to do this is my son Brian, who has joined as Lil Venturous and I am very happy about that. So, I am now Venturous and I plan to be a lot more active than the last venturous. RandyA
  20. Yep, same answer he just gave me too. RandyA
  21. Just remember, the abbrivation for yankee is yank and if you look "yank" up in the dictionary, it says "jerk". RandyA
  22. That is one of those good days you will always remember. I hope there will be many, many more of them for you and him. RandyA
  23. It never seems to fail that this time of year when it warms up a little, bad things happen to people on motorcycles. A couple of weeks ago with a little bit of a warm up, we had two motorcycle fatalities. One was a man and the other biker was a woman. It both cases, it appears to have been due to losing control and hitting something. I always hate to see this and I know that I am always a little apprehensive when I first get the bike out. I also like to get some seat time before I take on a passenger. Anyway, be careful out there and watch out for others no watching out for you and there always seems to be more stuff on the road. RandyA
  24. Yeah Dan, the add is now back and I never got an answer to my questions. RandyA http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-yamaha-xvz1200-xvz-1200-venture-ym85-transmission-/250771526470?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6325d346
  25. Gone and I did not even get a response from him. In my request, I even asked if was an 85 trans, what was the serial number on the bike. RandyA
