Jeff, I admire all the efforts you have made to get the bike on the road. This is kinda like eating an elephant.....one bite at a time. RandyA

First of all, make sure the bolt that it pivots on is not too tight. It is usually held in place by a allen head screw. RandyA

Due to very little interest and responses on getting together this year at Asheville for a mini rally or extended meet and eat, I am going to advise the KOA campground that we are not going to have a get together this year. Maybe next year we can see about putting something together and we can see what interest there is then. In my "Let's talk about Asheville" thread, there were over 70 hits and not one single comment. Another thing that has helped me is after putting the puller on it and cranking it down way more than you think you should have to, take a punch or drift and stick it behind the puller against the sleeve that goes over the crank and give it a good whack with a big hammer. You may want to put a pile of rags or something under it because it will come off very quickly. RandyA

Well, at least you gotta be concerned about those poor 72 virgins that were awaiting him.:fiddle: RandyA

Being born and raised in the mountains of east Tennessee, after four years in the military in places that were flat. I just had to come home. The wife wanted to go to Alabama as her family had moved down there and I said no to that. Now, she is the ex and in Alabama and I am still happy here. Life is good. BTW, if anyone would like to do a stop over in this area, I may be able to put you up for the night. RandyA

Looks pretty kinky to me. Ok, where's Mini at? RandyA

Someone has plugged the YICS system and yes, the inner plug caps can be hard to get to. I have replaced mine without removing the carbs, but in some cases it may be easier to remove the carbs. Like Don said, make sure you have the caps, and the more heavy duty the better, and someone will help figure it out. RandyA

This last storm has been a bad one here. I know that Alabama got hit hard, but we had seven people killed at a local truck stop in southwest Virginia and my kid brother was at the same truck stop when it happened. He had a 2X4 come thru the sleeper in the truck he was in and all he got was some minor cuts from glass. My lady Linda had new windows installed in her house two weeks ago and 12 of them got broken and her vinyl siding looks like someone spent an hour shooting the house with a machine gun from the hail. My Maxima looks like someone with a big ball peen hammer went all over it. I am surprised my windows survived but my passenger side mirror is busted. My concern now is our eastern NC friends like Mini Muffin, ADC Aurthur, Beer 30 and others. This one is not done yet. RandyA

I have to admit, I admire this last guy. He seems to be enjoying the Autume of his life. RandyA

Woody, I would love to do Asheville again and am still flexible on the dates if it will help more people. I would have loved for you to have been able to make MD and maybe you could have stopped over here for the night and we rode up together. RandyA

I just checked our local Advance Auto and they do not carry the Deka battery here. I wish they did, I would buy one and put it in my riding lawn mower. RandyA

I moved the Oddesy from my bike to the 85 a while back and put a new Deka back in my 83. So far, both batteries are doing good and the Deka is cranking over fine, especially when the bike is hot. RandyA

Since this is a Vogal year, I threw it out about having a long weekend meet and eat for the weekend of June 10-12th as we have done in the past and meeting at the Asheville KOA campground. It appears that we are getting very little interest this year, which may be the combination of Vogal, the economy and the date that was set, which is the weekend after Freebird's MD, or whatever. Also Warrior sent me a PM about a M&E in Asheville on the 18th, but I have not seen where he has posted anything. Sooooo, if June 10-12th is not a good time for many that are interested in coming, maybe we could target another date, maybe in July, as I am game for that. Or if there is just not enough interest this year, maybe we can try to put together a bigger rally next year. But, if we are going to cancel this year, I will need to notify the KOA campground so they will not hold those spaces for us. I really did want to try June this year as this is really late spring up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the colors are wonderful and the camping would normally be just a little cooler than July or August. So, please give me some feedback so I can put some things together, one way or the other. Thanks, RandyA

I had an absolutely wonderful weekend. Spent all three days with my Lady Linda and we did some things around her house and mine on Friday, as it was a holiday for me. We took a 220 mile ride Saturday over thru the back roads of the western NC mountains and the bike ran perfect. This was with the temps from 70 to 80º. Sunday, went to the flea market and bought some stuff and then went to my house and prepared a big meal that we had with my son and his wife, grand kids and great grandkids. I can not think of anything I would have wanted to change. Life is good. RandyA

Hey Jonas, one of the changes that you made that I bet really helped is going to the V-Max rear. It is my understanding that the RSTD has slightly wider spaced gearing than the Royal Star Venture and 5th is really tall. The reason I have an interest in this is I am putting together a combination of a low mileage 83 engine with the gearing out of a 01 Venture and a V-Max rear. This should give me about 8% lower in 1st, 4% lower in 2nd with 3rd and 4th being about the same as before and 5th being almost 5% higher. I have known several that put the V-Max rear in 1st gens and it made them even quicker, but suffered when doing some traveling. I am hoping that my combination will be the best of both worlds for a 1st gen as I routinely run mine up to about 8,000 rpm's in 1st and 2nd. RandyA
-
Wow, you have almost made a 1st gen out of it. I am impressed. RandyA
-
Yep, I would say it would be about an even race........ with the 1st gen pulling the trailer.......if it was loaded real heavy.......going up a steep hill. RandyA
