I have found that what they really like is when you ask them if they are part of the Village People group. RandyA

Last year I went about 12,000 miles and expected to go at least that many or more this year. But with only going about 9,500 miles this year so far and the eye injury, I probably won't even make 10,000 miles.

Gerald, those look very good on there. RandyA

Well, I am at the point where my eye is filled level with the horizon, in other words, if I am looking straight, the liquid line is just about in the center of my vision. The crazy part is the least little movement causes it to slosh from side to side. Speaking of my vision, I can not see anything except light images either above or below the liquid line. I am hoping that is normal for now. I guess if were not for picking up the cinder blocks, I could go help Yammer Dan and it would be easy to keep them lever. May not be sraight, but they would be level. RandyA

Yeah, my first thought also. Did he even mention us or do you think he may be a little embarrassed with some on here? RandyA

I don't know Dan, this last week I am feeling pretty old. No, Rocket, I have not tried the Mexican dish you had, but Linda and I did talk about it last week. RandyA

I have done that before. RandyA

I am not sure what you mean by part of the threads left. Did the bolts seize up as you were removing them and strip the threads some as they were coming out? RandyA

Well, today I drove the car for the first time with one eye. Man, is it different. Since it is my right eye, it is much more of a blind side to the right. I really have to pay close attention to any traffic and to double check good before changing lanes. Another thing that is obviously affected is depth perception, whether it is walking and dealing with steps or driving or even reaching for something. The other factor is I noticed my left eye got tired a lot quicker. I know that this sure has given me even more of an appreciation for those that have had to deal with the loss of one eye, even though my situation should be temporary. RandyA

Another nice place to stay in that area, even though it is a little more east is Franklin, NC. We stayed at the Franklin Inn, a mom and pop type motel where you parked in front of your room. The staff were very frindly and helpful and we found a great restaurant called the Sunset. RandyA

I had a follow up with my eye doctor today and he is saying everything looks good. Other than a little stinging the first day, I have not had any pain, so I have a bottle of Loratab I don't need. At this point, I can only see images of bright light, but the doctor is still telling me that the bubble in my eye is what is affecting my vision. So, I guess for now it is just a waiting game so see what I am going to end up with. RandyA

Finally...

I was watching to see if anyone mentioned this. Due to it being thinner, I found that Scotch tape works good also and is tough enough for the seals to slide over without damaging the seal. It really is important to use some type of tape as the ring groove will definitely damage the sealing edge of the seal. RandyA -
A1C is the long term sugar test that shows what your sugar has averaged over a three month period of time. This one you can not fake by eating real good for a couple of days before you go to the doctor. It does concern me that you are being treated for diabetes and your doctor has not tested for A1C. I do appreciate the comments as this is why I started this post. I know there are a lot on here that are in the same boat and if I can do anything to get someones attention to help address their diabetes problem, it is worth it. RandyA

I used to be on Actos for a while and was taken off it. I am now seeing Actos as one of the drugs that is ending up on the bad drug list with a lot of lawsuits. RandyA

My bike has it's own turntable. I have a steel wheel mounted to the side of the center stand. RandyA

I want to thank everyone for my birthday wishes. Last year Linda and I were down on the Outer Banks of eastern NC having a wonderful time with some great venturerider friends. I hope to maybe do that again next year. RandyA

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 35 years ago and quite honestly did a poor job of controlling it. I took the pills prescribed, but my eating habits were terrible and was about 80 pounds overweight. I eventually ended up on insulin, but that did not help as my A1C numbers were from high 9's to about 11. When it became obvious that I was going to be dealing with a divorce after a 41 year marriage, I started getting serious about myself. I ended up loosing about 50 pounds and went off insulin and my last two A1C numbers were 6.7 and 6.4 which are very good. But, the problem with diabetes and poor control of it is damage done over the years just don't go away whenever you decide to do better. So, I am sitting here right now trying to type with one eye and hoping I will get some good vision out of the eye when it heals up. The hemorrhage I had was as bad or worse than any of the examples shown on the website about these things. About two years ago I was really happy with the results from my cataract surgery. Now I am being told that I have a lot of damage in both eyes and it will get worse. The reason I am writing this is I know I am not the only one in this bunch with type 2 diabetes and I hope some of you will start taking diabetes a lot more serious than I did, so maybe you can keep some of the damage to a minimum. It is a beautiful day outside and to be almost 80 degrees and I would love to be going for a ride. RandyA

Glad you got to do the trip and yes, that part of the Parkway is really beautiful, especially if you can see it. Back in July, Linda and I camped across the road from the Inn and it was great. I really wish we had met up with you rather than the short ride we did. Maybe I would not have laid the bike down and then have the Vitreous hemorrhage in my right eye that was probably related to me picking the bike back up. Glad you made it back home and if you want to try this again in the future, please let me know and I will see, I hope, what I can do. RandyA

And I bet this did not make you feel any better! RandyA

clutch bleeding
Venturous Randy replied to Dr. Psycho's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If that does not help, take the line loose at the master and while using your finger as a check valve over the outlet, pump the lever. Once you get fluid pumping, hook it all back up and it may bleed. JUST MAKE SURE ALL PLASTIC IS COVERED WELL TO NOT GET FLUID ON ANYTHING. RandyA -
My rookie mistake may be more serious

Next day follow up after surgery looked good according to the eye doctor. I was really concerned because earlier in the morning, I got sick and had some pretty severe heaves. Right now, about the only thing I can see from my right eye is some light, if it is bright. My depth perception is really screwed up. RandyA -

Well, I am home. From the doctors description, it sounds pretty serious. There was a lot of scarring and lazer work to fix some blood vessels. He did put the bubble in and I also had some retina separation. I am now starting to ache and Linda has gone to get the pain meds filled. If she wasn't gone, she would probably not let me be sitting here trying to type this. She is a real keeper. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. RandyA -

In looking at the pictures from inside my eye and the examples given when I looked up vitreous hemorrhage, mine looks as bad or worse than the worst example given. At least 1/3 or more of my eye is shrouded in blood. Well, we are off to see the wizard. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. RandyA -

Thank you very much Brian for the information you have provided me, both here and your phone call. This is really what the Venturerider family is all about. RandyA
