  1. I can not imagine you being able to move the pinion from side to side. If you can do this, this may be why you have a final drive whine. RandyA
  2. My concern is it adds to confusion for some people. There are some that don't need any more confusion while driving. You may get their attention, but they just don't know how to handle it. RandyA
  3. In my opinion, and I have put over 120,000 miles on my 83 with several different brands and so far, the best handling combination is an Avon front and a Dundop E-3 rear. I was not the only one with 70mph and up tail waggle on a 1st gen with an Avon rear tire. Maybe this is why Avon discontinued them. Even though the bias/radial issue is directed to not matching on the same axle due to different sidewall flexes, I still don't think I would want to mix a bias front and a radial rear, but it may be ok. 4. A few weeks ago I ran my DEKA completely down after parking the bike with the fog lights on for a couple days. I charged it over night and it is doing just fine. I had an Odessy and it worked good, but I think the DEKA may be a bit stronger. RandyA
  5. At about 7 pm on the CBS news, it was the leadoff story and it was up to 640 million. It may be up to 800 to 900 million before the drawing and there still may not be a winner. The odds are, I think, 176 million to one. So, if you bought one of every combination and you were the only winner, you could still make 500 million before taxes. To win this much money would be a big pain. Yeah, I would love to win a couple of million, but with this much, you would have to go into hiding. BTW, I did buy four tickets. RandyA
  6. Hmmmm.... No, I AM NOT going to say anything. No, no, no!! RandyA
  7. It will be interesting to see if it does anything with a $100 starting bid. RandyA
  8. I wondered about lane splitting, but there was just so much open area on both sides. RandyA
  9. Not sure what started it but there was definately something going on. And yes, it was obvious the SUV driver wanted to hurt the biker. RandyA
  10. I can not imagine that a lower casing and an upper casing are not machined as a matching pair. I would think that all the line bore characteristics would be very critical. Even the line bore in a head for the camshaft is done with the caps in place and the caps are not interchangeable. Now, I may be wrong, but this is the way I see it. RandyA
  11. For many of us that did serve, the longer ago that it is, the more wonderful it was. RandyA
  12. Wow, 750 miles in three years. Yep, you better get a Hardly cause that would be abuse to do that to a Venture. RandyA
  13. I am going to need to cut open my best collector after the spare I had on my bike had the output pipe on the right muffler break off. I took my other collector off last fall because it was rattling bad. My question is, if I take the center wall out that seperates the two sides, will it make the bike louder? I have had a set of Jardines on the bike for about ten years and really don't want the bike to be any louder. In the tech write up, it does state that it opens up the bike a little, like putting a crossover pipe behind a set of headers on a car. Suggestions appreciated. RandyA
  14. That was amazing and what makes it even better is that is a real big RC plane to be handled like that. RandyA
  15. Ok, you added more stuff. The last picture is the port the 2nd picture hose goes. Most people put the Z shaped hose on the twinkie and run it up between the two rear carbs and then pull it up on the airbox. As for why Yamaha did the hoses the way they did, you would have to ask their engineers. But, when you do get it right, you will be amazed as to how much power Yamaha got out of this engine. RandyA
  16. The hose in the second picture should connect to a port on the airbox that is directly in front of the left front carb. It appears that the hose that goes to the port on the Twinkie, as we call it, is gone and goes to the airbox between the rear carbs. As far as the box boots being loose, I doubt that it would make a lot of difference, but with the other hoses off, it might. As far as the revving, you need to check around the carbs for air leaks. RandyA
  17. Several years ago I picked up a used Corbin for my 83. I scooped a little more foam out of the driver seat and it is way more comfortable than the stock seat. RandyA
  18. Which carb was it? #2 has a port for the boost sensor. Oh, vise grips work good to remove stuck screws. RandyA
  19. I think you should have blocked up both ends and the window and sealed it good and made a swimming pool for wife and neighborhood kids instead of being so selfish and just making it for you. RandyA
  20. Probably, I mean it is almost a week into spring by now. RandyA
  21. How about something a little more unique? I still like my Twilight Royal Plum, which is a soft pearl purple with bikini side panels. RandyA
  22. Gary, that does look to me that it is an 84 bike with the born date and the serial number 47 and I assume Yamaha still starts each year with the first bike built being 000101. Hmmm... learn something new every day, but I still wonder why Yamaha would sell it as an 83 and not an 84. RandyA
  23. There is a complete 2nd gen trans on ebay right now for about $50. It has everything to fit a 1st gen. It has about 7 hours left. RandyA http://www.ebay.com/itm/09-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-TRANSMISSION-GEARS-/190656254323?hash=item2c63ff9173&item=190656254323&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  24. Somebody sure has put a lot of foo foo on that bike, some stuff I have never seen before. There seems to be some things that don't add up on this bike. You say it was the 45th of this series? What is the build date? Could it be a very early 84 with an 83 title? Why would Yamaha go backwards instead of forward on the date with an 84 color? The dash is 84 up. Have you compared the vin# on the frame side rail with the number on the engine and the frame at the neck? Interesting bike and enquiring minds want to know. RandyA
