Stopped in the local Yammie shop yesterday to check on something and just happened to see an 08 Venture sitting amoung the other bikes. I thought it might be new until I got closer and saw it was an 08 with 23,000 miles on it. It was priced at $12,999 and I was just curious if that was a good price and if anyone might be interested. I have put the best caps on my YICS ports that I could find and given I have had several fail over the years, if it were me, I would put some good heavy duty hose on and use a bolt or something to plug the hose and put clamps on both ends. Inevitably, the cap that will fail will be either one of the inside ones that will be very difficult to get to, especially on the road with the engine hot. What I would NOT do is try the bigger version of the Jason mod. First of all, you could never balance the carbs unless you undone everything and it would probably idle poorly, not just give you some lope . Also keep in mind that the VMax setup works because it is feeding each cylinder thru more than one carb, not just because it is connecting the intake ports. Anyway Lew, I am glad you are getting this close to being on the road again and I am anxious to see how it does. RandyA

It is interesting how much of a motorcycle icon that The Dragon has become. It is a neat road and a good ride when everyone is behaving, but with me being from the area of north east Tennessee, we have many roads that are as good or better than The Dragon. BTW, great pictures. RandyA

Motorcyclists aren’t Targets:How Nissan Juke Misses the Mark
Venturous Randy replied to brainfart's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks twigg for the update. I called the number and worked through several layers of button pushing before I was advised it was after hours. I was just getting ready to send an e-mail when saw your post. As an owner of three different Nissan Maximas and three different Z-cars over the years and as a lifetime motorcyclist, I was pissed, to say the least, after watching the commercial. OK, I can go back to my corner now. RandyA- 12 replies

Hillsboro, NC is a nice place, and will not be too long of a ride to the beach or to the mountains. If you have never been to the Outer banks of NC, you are in for a treat. Even though it has gotten more populated than when I was in that area when I was in the USAF, there are a lot of areas where there are a lot of great rides and The National Seashore. There is also a lot of history all over NC, whether it is in the mountains or the Inner/Outer banks. As far as mountains, NC has some of the greatest rides in the country, with the Blue Ridge Parkway and many great two lane roads. I live just across the mountains in TN, but if I am going for a day ride, or a weekend ride, it is hard not to head for NC. Also, we are looking at putting together the Asheville Rally in June. Another new way to mount stuff on a 1st gen handlebar.
Venturous Randy replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
This is how I mounted my GPS and it works very good and is not in the way whenever I don't have the GPS on he bike. I used a piece of 1/4 in plexiglass that I trimmed to fit the base on the mount. RandyA -

Will Rogers and some of his sayings: 1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco. 2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. 3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither works. 4. Never miss a good chance to shut up. 5. Always drink upstream from the herd. 6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. 7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into your pocket. 8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves. 9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. 10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. 11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back. 12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. RandyA

Third times a charm?
Venturous Randy replied to venture83_98's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Kurt, you are very welcome and many on here really enjoy helping out. I would suggest doing some search on these operations and you will be amazed at how much information is available. RandyA -
This is similar to a four way stop intersection. It is amazing how effective they can be, until you get people not paying attention and then it stops the traffic flow. Or, you have the agressive driver that does not wait their turn. We must have about the worst drivers in the world where the actual driving is not the top priority when driving around. Everything else seems to take priority. EandyA

Not sure about the effects of the anti dive blockoff plates, but in my thinking, it may make the front forks respond like the anti dives are in operation all the time. Again, not sure, but if it does, that could impact the operation also. I installed progressives with 15wt oil and am very pleased with them. RandyA

Third times a charm?

If I see what I think I am seeing, that is not an overflow. There is a screw that you can open that lets you put a clear hose on the fitting you are showing so you can check your float levels. I suspect you are messing with the wrong screws and they should be closed. RandyA -
Rick Butler is GREAT and HD Isn't For Me!!
Venturous Randy replied to lshafer's topic in Watering Hole
Maybe you were already riding your RSTD like a Harley. If you wanted some thrills getting to cruising speed, you should have tried out a good running 1st gen and shifted about 8,000 RPM's. You would have been to cruising speed in just a few seconds. RandyA -
Looking good Lew, I know that this is something you have wanted to get behind you for awhile now. RandyA

I had a talk with my grandson about a week ago about me seeing him cranking it on with him on his CBR600 and he was going to get a ticket. The thing about it is, you can sometimes get by the Laws of the Land, but when you don't stay within the Laws of Physics, you can really get in trouble. He is again scheduled to be in surgery in the morning and they will try to see how much muscle damage there is, as they have to keep taking out dead muscle tissue and are trying to stop the bleeding before his leg can be closed up. We do appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. RandyA

As of this moment, he is back in surgery. He had a rod with pins put into his femur on his right leg and due to the muscle damage and continued bleeding, they had not closed up his leg yet. As of last night, he had used 8 units of blood. I suspect one of the metal fence posts he went across is what tore his leg up. I think the bike hit the telephone pole, but I don't think he did. He is in good spirits and is talking and I suspect he is a bit mad at himself. He has always been a real good kid, does not smoke or do any drugs and is very well liked as he is just a very pleasant young man. I, along with Brian and the rest of the family really do appreciate all the prayers and thoughts. This could have easily have been a death we could be dealing with right now. RandyA

Actually, Lil Venturous is the dad and I am the grandad. I am getting ready to go back to the hospital and see how everybody is doing. RandyA

Yesterday evening, my 20 year old grandson, Lil Venturous" son, lost it on his CBR600 and went down. He was going over a rise that sweeps to the right and I suspect he was going too fast and as he crested the hill and when he touched the rear brake, it locked up. He went off the left side of the road, went over a barbed wire fence, bending or breaking four metal poles, dropped about 6 to 8 feet and hit a telephone pole. He was left laying beside the telephone pole and the bike went farther down the bank. The fortunate thing was he was able to call his dad, who was at my house and we took off to find him as Brian called 911 and gave them directions. When we got there, his sister, who lives within a mile was already there. Within minutes we had the fire department, a crash truck, EMS, a city policeman that was on his way to work and then a State Trooper. If he had not been able to call, I don't know if he would have been found. You could not see him or the bike from the road unless you stopped and got out of the car and looked over the bank. He also could not move as he had a compound fracture on his right leg with the femur sticking out about half way between his knee and hip. He is now out of surgery and also has a torn muscle and skin damage. Fortunately, he had on a good mesh jacket with armor pads, heavy boots, heavy work pants and a full face helmet. He will be in ICU tonight and in a couple of days he will have more surgery to see how much muscle damage there is. I have some pictures that I will try to post that were taken after the fact. RandyA

The difference is 10%. The advantage is you will have more pull in the lower gears and you can also use 4th and especially 5th gear more effectively. If you are now running 3,000 rpm's in 5th gear to maintain 60 mph, the rpm would go up to 3,300 rpm's for 60. On an RSV and especially an RSTD, that would make 5th much more usable and it would probably improve gas mileage. Another thing it may do is reduce the amount of gear whine by riding more in 5th than 4th. I know my 1st gen is quieter in 5th than 4th. RandyA
