pilot jets and sync'ing ?
Venturous Randy replied to 59ndroy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On adjusting the air/fuel ratio on cars, I used to have a set idle speed and when adjusting the air/fuel screws, I would stop at the highest idle, then I would reset the idle with the idle screw. I am not sure how well we can do this on our four carburated bikes. RandyA -
Horn button

Do you have an ohm/volt meter? RandyA -
Tennessee has had a big increase in motorcycle deaths this year. I believe much of it was the early spring and so many inexperienced riders justifying buying a motorcycle due to gas prices. And, just like my grandson's crash, just pushing it too much. He is now out of the hospital as of yesterday and is staying with me. He is doing good, but he really did suffer some real serious injuries on his right leg. He could just as easily been one of the statistics. RandyA

MK1 bag removal
Venturous Randy replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Take the three screws out that hold the lock on and the bags will slide off. That is the way I remove my bags now as I am tired of working on locks. RandyA -
Watched my nephew go over the handlebars yesterday.

Well, as they say, "Education is Expensive". Just glad he was not hurt worse. RandyA -
Keep me posted on your schedule and we may be able to get some locals together. We have many things in this area to do and there is a lot of history. Jonesborough is only about seven miles from JC and it is the oldest town in TN. We have more beautiful rides locally than you could enjoy in a month. We are within just a little over an hour ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway. As great as "The Snake" is on 421 and you can Google it, It would probably not be a good ride on that weekend, as the traffic will be like The Dragon. My phone # is in my profile. RandyA

Yes, this a concern with how the IRS operates, put this is not taking political sides and as long as we don't take political sides, I don't think it should be deleated. RandyA

These old bikes are pretty finicky about the condition of the plugs. With what I am seeing on your plugs, I would put in another set immediately. I use Autolite from Advance Auto and they work fine and they are cheap. RandyA

Nope, was just curious of the price RandyA

I thought the price was high too, but I wasn't sure. RandyA

Stopped in the local Yammie shop yesterday to check on something and just happened to see an 08 Venture sitting amoung the other bikes. I thought it might be new until I got closer and saw it was an 08 with 23,000 miles on it. It was priced at $12,999 and I was just curious if that was a good price and if anyone might be interested. Even with all his health problems, he was just one of those people that you could think would live forever. RandyA

I have put the best caps on my YICS ports that I could find and given I have had several fail over the years, if it were me, I would put some good heavy duty hose on and use a bolt or something to plug the hose and put clamps on both ends. Inevitably, the cap that will fail will be either one of the inside ones that will be very difficult to get to, especially on the road with the engine hot. What I would NOT do is try the bigger version of the Jason mod. First of all, you could never balance the carbs unless you undone everything and it would probably idle poorly, not just give you some lope . Also keep in mind that the VMax setup works because it is feeding each cylinder thru more than one carb, not just because it is connecting the intake ports. Anyway Lew, I am glad you are getting this close to being on the road again and I am anxious to see how it does. RandyA

It is interesting how much of a motorcycle icon that The Dragon has become. It is a neat road and a good ride when everyone is behaving, but with me being from the area of north east Tennessee, we have many roads that are as good or better than The Dragon. BTW, great pictures. RandyA

Motorcyclists aren’t Targets:How Nissan Juke Misses the Mark
Venturous Randy replied to brainfart's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks twigg for the update. I called the number and worked through several layers of button pushing before I was advised it was after hours. I was just getting ready to send an e-mail when saw your post. As an owner of three different Nissan Maximas and three different Z-cars over the years and as a lifetime motorcyclist, I was pissed, to say the least, after watching the commercial. OK, I can go back to my corner now. RandyA- 12 replies

Hillsboro, NC is a nice place, and will not be too long of a ride to the beach or to the mountains. If you have never been to the Outer banks of NC, you are in for a treat. Even though it has gotten more populated than when I was in that area when I was in the USAF, there are a lot of areas where there are a lot of great rides and The National Seashore. There is also a lot of history all over NC, whether it is in the mountains or the Inner/Outer banks. As far as mountains, NC has some of the greatest rides in the country, with the Blue Ridge Parkway and many great two lane roads. I live just across the mountains in TN, but if I am going for a day ride, or a weekend ride, it is hard not to head for NC. Also, we are looking at putting together the Asheville Rally in June. Another new way to mount stuff on a 1st gen handlebar.
Venturous Randy replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
This is how I mounted my GPS and it works very good and is not in the way whenever I don't have the GPS on he bike. I used a piece of 1/4 in plexiglass that I trimmed to fit the base on the mount. RandyA -

Will Rogers and some of his sayings: 1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco. 2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. 3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither works. 4. Never miss a good chance to shut up. 5. Always drink upstream from the herd. 6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. 7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into your pocket. 8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves. 9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. 10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. 11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back. 12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. RandyA

Third times a charm?
Venturous Randy replied to venture83_98's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Kurt, you are very welcome and many on here really enjoy helping out. I would suggest doing some search on these operations and you will be amazed at how much information is available. RandyA -
This is similar to a four way stop intersection. It is amazing how effective they can be, until you get people not paying attention and then it stops the traffic flow. Or, you have the agressive driver that does not wait their turn. We must have about the worst drivers in the world where the actual driving is not the top priority when driving around. Everything else seems to take priority. EandyA
