I am hoping to, but at this moment, everything is up in the air. I am planning on being there, just not sure under what conditions. RandyA

I had a problem several years ago with the metal part of the line getting clogged up. This made my clutch hard to pull in and did not release good. I cleaned it out and it has worked fine since. RandyA

Throttle adjustment

I think you are right. Normally it increases idle when the choke is engaged, but I have no idea what his is doing. I want to help him, but I don't know where to start. RandyA- 11 replies

Did you look in the trunk of your car? To me $55 is kind of high for mounting and balancing two tires. For that, I would have done it myself. RandyA

Need help with 2 minor problems.........
Venturous Randy replied to DragonRider's topic in Watering Hole
Only use the one resister. Take out the old one you have in line. Check your connections on the one under the side panel and up on the handle bar. RandyA -
We understand, going to a 2nd gen is all about slowing down. I know Brown Sugar kept you interested. Maybe you can loop down this way and come to Asheville in August. RandyA

Throttle adjustment
Venturous Randy replied to Scudrunner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would like to make some suggestions, but the way you are describing things seem to be somewhat backwards. You say it will barely idle then you say you can not get the plates to close, or if you try to close them, the idle will go up. My first suggestion would be to try to find vacuum leaks. You can do this by spraying some starter fluid around the base of the carbs. You will need to fix the vacuum leaks before you can sync the carbs. I am curious if you are even adjusting on the idle adjustment, It is the star shaped knob under the carbs on the left side of the bike. RandyA- 11 replies

I have had one for years and would be uncomfortable riding without it. One problem you may encounter is it may creep some, according to what type grips you have. I ended up using some of the old cloth electrical tape that is sticky on both sides and wrapping it around the grip under the rocker. RandyA

While you are there, ask them if they will work with us on a discount. RandyA -
If you were getting 12 to 14 volts at idle, you are probably doing a lot better than most 1st gen Ventures out there. It is also normal to get a big drop when putting the signal lights or the brakes on. I agree with the others, you have probably ruined a good DEKA battery. In fact, most DEKA batteries will hold their charge through the winter. I suspect you probably don't have a problem. Just do some research on here and you will know a lot more than your ex-mechanic. He was probably thinking you had an early Gold Wing. RandyA

overheating
Venturous Randy replied to Max's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This has worked very good for me and I have not felt it added any heat to my legs, in fact, it may even be a little better with it all opened up. RandyA -
I still have the duct work in place and it helps hold the radar detector in place. I also have the power source on a switch so I can turn it off easily if I want to. It works well through the plastic fairing and I can hear it at highway speeds. RandyA

Now I know why I can not touch the ground. RandyA

I have a radar detector mounted in my left one and it works good. RandyA

Yes, I realize that there may be some problems with reading off chrome, but for a quick check for reading off the exhaust near the head, this thing works very good and is a lot better than touching the exhaust pipe looking for a dead cylinder. How much "A little more money" are you talking about, as I posted this because of the low price? RandyA

Unscrew the spark plug cap off the wire and swap it with another one and see if it still stays the same cylinder. RandyA

This is the best price I have seen on these thermometers. This is the one that Harbor Freight sells from $26 to $30 when they are on sale. I think it also has free shipping. RandyA http://bensoutlet.com/products/cheerman-digital-infrared-thermometer

I suspect you are adjusting the air/fuel mixture screws, not the screws used for syncing the carbs. Not sure what a coil cap is but Fred was referring to the cap that goes on to the spark plug. RandyA
