  1. Why do you need to remove the radiator? RandyA
  2. If you were getting 12 to 14 volts at idle, you are probably doing a lot better than most 1st gen Ventures out there. It is also normal to get a big drop when putting the signal lights or the brakes on. I agree with the others, you have probably ruined a good DEKA battery. In fact, most DEKA batteries will hold their charge through the winter. I suspect you probably don't have a problem. Just do some research on here and you will know a lot more than your ex-mechanic. He was probably thinking you had an early Gold Wing. RandyA
  3. This has worked very good for me and I have not felt it added any heat to my legs, in fact, it may even be a little better with it all opened up. RandyA
  4. I still have the duct work in place and it helps hold the radar detector in place. I also have the power source on a switch so I can turn it off easily if I want to. It works well through the plastic fairing and I can hear it at highway speeds. RandyA
  5. Now I know why I can not touch the ground. RandyA
  6. Are you on your bike? RandyA
  7. I have a radar detector mounted in my left one and it works good. RandyA
  8. Yes, I realize that there may be some problems with reading off chrome, but for a quick check for reading off the exhaust near the head, this thing works very good and is a lot better than touching the exhaust pipe looking for a dead cylinder. How much "A little more money" are you talking about, as I posted this because of the low price? RandyA
  9. Unscrew the spark plug cap off the wire and swap it with another one and see if it still stays the same cylinder. RandyA
  10. This is the best price I have seen on these thermometers. This is the one that Harbor Freight sells from $26 to $30 when they are on sale. I think it also has free shipping. RandyA http://bensoutlet.com/products/cheerman-digital-infrared-thermometer
  11. I suspect you are adjusting the air/fuel mixture screws, not the screws used for syncing the carbs. Not sure what a coil cap is but Fred was referring to the cap that goes on to the spark plug. RandyA
  12. The first thing I would try is bleeding the clutch again and make sure it is not over filled. I would then try not to load the clutch anymore than I had to, like staying out of traffic. Also, make sure your rear brakes are not dragging. RandyA
  13. The added air acts as additional spring pressure. Adding oil is like increasing the dampening effect and adding thicker oil will do that to some degree also.. RandyA
  14. When I replaced the speedo with another one years ago, it was three or four miles per hour off. I recalibrated it and it is only off one mph at 70 according to a stopwatch and my GPS. RandyA
  15. In my opinion, if you were going to put a radar detector on any vehicle, it should be on a motorcycle. The reason I say this is a motorcycle, especially a 1st gen seems to be pretty stealthy. The problem with this is radar is not discriminating enough and radar reads the strongest bounceback, not the fastest or slowest. Therefore, if you are going down the highway doing 55mph in a 55mph speed limit and you have a truck a half mile behind you doing 65mph, the cop is going to get a 65mph reading and unless he is well trained, you are going to get pulled over. If you know from a beep that you are in the vicinity of radar, it does give you a chance to see how fast you are going, not just to slow down, but to confirm to you that you are or not speeding. My problem is at one time those that used radar were fairly well trained, like State Troopers. Now we have deputies and Constables that I suspect know little more than how to turn their radar gun on. Occasionally when we have the units set up beside the road that constantly send out radar and have a big screen that posts speeds, my detector may go off a mile before I get to it and I have to be very close, less than 200 feet to get it to read me, and if I am in any traffic, even stretched out, it will not read me at all. RandyA
  16. Several years ago I heard of a State Trooper that was suing because he had testicular cancer and he said it was from laying the radar gun in his lap. This is the same kind of radar you get from automatic doors and some motion detectors. RandyA
  17. Bob's got to have a good heart because he's such a good hearted, no....great hearted person. Wishing you the best buddy. RandyA
  18. It sounds like you have a 84 and up dash in an 83. If you look under the left side behind the clutch slave cylinder, you will see a round switch that either has one or five wires coming out of it. An 83 has one and 84 up has five. If you have an 84 up dash and want all the gear indicators to work, you will need to put the 84 up switch in and the wiring harness from an 84 up. RandyA
  19. My eye surgeon has decided he wants to do another surgery tomorrow. This time, due to more blood vessel problems, he wants to take the oil back out and fix the problem vessels and the do the air bubble thing again. At present I have virtually no usable vision out of my right eye and have found if I wear my eye patch, it seems to help with my headaches. I don't know if this will help my vision any, but we will see(no pun intended). RandyA
  20. Hey girl, Linda and I wish you a happy, happy Birthday. RandyA
  21. Yep, I can sure identify with that. RanduA
  22. Have you got a code reader that you can put on it? RandyA
  23. I was there last year and so wanted to go this year. Linda and I were talking just a while ago about how much we enjoyed it and need to figure how we can be there next year. RandyA
  24. Thanks for the pics. I really wanted to be there this year, but just could not do it. It looks like it has been a lot cooler this year compared to last year. RandyA
