Cutting side covers
Venturous Randy replied to johnnydemonic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did mine years ago and like it just fine. I even think it is cooler on my legs and I ride with shorts on all the time. I cut the lower part a bit in front of the point where it connects and used a heat gun to soften the ABS plastic and rolled it to a point. I then used some plastic epoxy to shape the point and sanded it down. I also removed some material at the upper part to get the side panel to align with the upper fairing. I have some pictures on my PC that has not been on in a long time and can try pulling them up if you want. They show the backside of the panels. I call them "bikini side panels" RandyA -
I have about $60 in it, not counting my work and a new ball. When I received it there was some surface rust on the chrome and I sanded it all down and painted it silver. It looks pretty good and these Markland hitches for the MK1's are getting rare. Like I said, I would have it on my bike if it did not interfere with the lightbar. You all make me an offer if you are interested and we will talk. I am not sure what shipping costs will be. RandyA

Reserve Tank Question
Venturous Randy replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When you filled up at 3.25 gallons, you had about 2 gallons left. When my fuel light comes on, I know I have about 50 miles left if I push it. RandyA -
Storage Space (capacity)
Venturous Randy replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What I did was to take the "C" shaped bar and put it in a big vise and make the length shorter. That has the same effect as making the spring shorter. Did it help you in getting the bike on the centerstand. Did it go from almost impossible to just very difficult? RandyA -

Hey Mike, did you ever out that centerstand on your bike that I shortened for you? RandyA -
Reserve Tank Question
Venturous Randy replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have put 133,000 miles on my 83 in 16 years and it has always been on reserve. My gas gauge works fine and I also tend to notice my odometer when it gets low. I have run it low and have never run out of gas. To me, it works just like my car. I can not understand why anyone would need to run their bike with it not on reserve if it has a working, repeatable gas gauge. RandyA -
Wow, is that the bike you did the rebuild on 2nd gear? I have a Markland hitch that I got a couple of years ago that I was going to put on my 83, but it interfered with the light bar, so I just left the homemade one on it. If you are interested in it, let me know. RandyA

Storage Space (capacity)

Do you mean cubic feet? You can have an area dimension with square feet, but that will not show volume. RandyA -
If the problem is very big, I can not imagine there is not a class action law suit on this already. The statement the dealer made about worn tooling is absolutely stupid and I would ask him to put that statement in writing for you. RandyA

Last Friday Linda and I took a ride over the mountains to between Burnsville, NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway on highway 80. There is a state park and campground called Carolina Hemlocks Park. It has some wonderful swimming in the river that has several deep pools and is a great place to snorkle and the water is very cold and clear. After we swam for a while, we rode up on The BRP and went up on MT Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi. We had a picnic and the temperature was 74 degrees. It was a great ride as it was 101 degrees at home. RandyA

Rearend clutches indicate a posi traction type rear end. One of the biggest problems is using a differential lube that is not made for a clutch type rear end. But, I can not imagine the dealer not putting the correct lube in the rearend. RandyA

Yes, I do use a radar detector and no, it does not have a cover on it as it is mounted in the vent hole. When one of you guys get a ticket because an SUV a quarter mile behind you was speeding, you will wish you had a detector so you could be absolutely sure how fast you were going, not that it will matter to most cops or judges. I may run five or so over and mine has warned me many times when I needed to know. RandyA

I had my second one a while back and they went in from both ends. So far I have had two and not a single poplop has been found. The told me I was the perfect a$$hole. RandyA

Another rider killed by a cage being stupid.
Venturous Randy replied to hog's topic in Watering Hole
We had a retired State Trooper get killed last week from a head on crash where a 20 year old girl crossed the center line in a Honda and hit a pick up just left of center head on. The trooper's son was driving and he and the girl in the Honda were hurt. There is strong suspicion she was texting, but it has not been released yet. Texting and driving in TN is against the law. RandyA -
Yeah, I don't think that is going to buff out. RandyA

I think about $15 a year and we don't have a yearly tax or a state income tax, and we got some of the greatest riding roads in the country. Love Tennessee. RandyA

Well, you know you need to be there to keep the troops entertained. Also, I might want another shot at Brown Sugar. That may make me want to do a little tune up before I get down there. RandyA

I was on this site for several years before Don had to make the decision to start having a membership fee and I know he agonized over it. It had always been his intent to keep this a free site, but it became something he had to do. So, what he did was to initiate a very low membership due that is lower than any that I know of that are not loaded with advertisements. As has already been noted several times, this is a family and we might fuss a little at times, but there is a tremendous respect shown between these family members, especially when they disagree on something. I do occasionally look at other sites, such as for my Maxima and to tell you the truth, it is not worth reading through all the crap and snide remarks to get any useful information. People that come on here with that attitude either change real quick, or don't last long. I feel very blessed that I found this site and at that time I was a member of another similar site that I was not happy with, which, by the way, had a lot higher membership dues than this one years ago. As has been said, welcome to the group if you chose to join. If you feel you are being scammed, then I suggest you go on about your business. And, if you do pay your dues and don't like it, I am sure you will get your money back. RandyA
