Venturous Randy replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
Wow, looks like you are very talented. RandyA -
Lew, knowing you and Charlene, I can understand why they are good kids. It says a lot about you both. Congratulations and you both have a reason to be proud. RandyA

After being part of the Verizon program for many years and paying way too much for a cell phone and hating to be under a contract, I finally switched over to Straight Talk. I am not one to want or need one of the smart phones so the simple program works fine for me. I like a simple flip phone that I can close so I went to Walmart and bought one with a camera for about $50 and did the "All you need" program with 1000 anytime minutes, 1000 text messages and some internet for $30 for 30 days. They use Verizon towers, so the service is the same. It is easy to do the auto-fill and it is $32 and change with tax. For those of you that want it, they have unlimited everything for $45 + tax for 30 days. After I determined I liked what I got, Linda and I decided to do the same thing for her. But when I signed up on line for mine, I found that they also offer a bunch of different phones and some are free. We ended up getting a flip phone for Linda that looked brand new that had been refurbished and all she had to do was pick out the phone, which was an LG and buy the first month program with no contract. There is no activation fee and you can keep your old number if it is still active. Anyway, I thought I would throw this out to anyone that wants to look at a different alternative and so far I am very pleased. SGN, Steve Neal, did this and tried to get me to do this a long time ago and wish I had taken his advice then. RandyA

Did you ride the bike and if you did, do you like the results? RandyA

Bobbie, this a very good and timely post. With winter upon us and many looking for a good winter project, this is a good time for those who have not installed a loud horn to get it done. And think, for those out there that just can not think of anything to get their spouse or friend, be it driver or passenger, a loud horn would be a great gift. I really do feel that my air horns have saved my life on more than one occasion in incidents I could not have avoided otherwise. RandyA

Dan, I wish you the very best in your operation. I know that leg injuries can be very difficult to deal with in what my grandson has gone through. He has also had six surgeries and it has been a bummer year for him too. But, he is now walking good without any assistance but with a limp. Even though his femur was broken into many pieces, the biggest problem was the amount of muscle damage. I feel that years ago he would have lost his leg. The best thing he had going for him was he was young and healthy. As I said, I hope it goes well for you and you are able to get the improvements you want. But, keep in mind that sometimes we just have to make the best of what we get. I have had three surgeries on my right eye and at this point I am just glad I still have the eye and still have the other one that is still working pretty good. I feel fortunate. RandyA

Well, there goes the ball room dancing for a while. Hope you heal well and yes, at least try to do some of the things the doctor wants you to do. RandyA

Proud of you buddy. :happy65: RandyA

If the survey was done after he was committed to leave, most may have just been mad at him. RandyA

You are doing good and just getting it broke in. Hope you have many more safe miles to enjoy. RandyA

How not to test drive a bike...........
Venturous Randy replied to DragonRider's topic in Watering Hole
I think it was a photo op where the biker was supposed to do a short ride by the marina on a walking path that had the short post barriers in place to keep vehicles out. He was attempting to go around one of the posts and did not give enough room for the left bag that stuck out farther than he thought and it tore it off. Once he hit it, he did not have much room to correct his mistake. RandyA -
Well, most of us have been going on with our everyday dull lives while you have been gallivanting all over the country. Glad you made it ok and if you ever make it to east Tennessee, look me up. RandyA

I had noted a couple of weeks ago that I was having a shifting problem. I was having a problem with the bike not staying in 1st and 5th gear. I could shift it into 1st gear and it would come back out unless I held the shifter down until I put it under a load. I was having the same problem with 5th and also having a problem with finding neutral. I suspected I was having a détente problem and that was what it turned out to be. The spring that pulls in the détente roller arm was broken. I had a spare and was able to replace it by taking off the clutch side cover and down beside the clutch basket I could get to it. Some long needle nose pliers and I was good to go. I wanted to post this as this is not a problem I have heard the Venture having. It appears that the spring was just worn enough to finally break. When the 750 came out, it seemed like a big bike to me. RandyA

On my 83, I moved the helmet locks up under the trunk like the 86 up 1st gens. If I am going to be away from the bike, I will lock the helmets and if it is real hot and we are going into a cool restaurant, we will take the helmets with us. RandyA

number. Yep, the one ticket that I bought had the number 6 as the powerball number, which matched. Therefore, I doubled my investment!!!! :cool10: So, when I cash in my ticket I will get $4 back on my $2 investment. I just have to be careful that I don't make a special trip and spend $2 on gas to cash it in. RandyA

I have had my 83 for almost 17 years and have put over 135,000 miles on it and as far as starting mine, it is just like miffinman said. The only thing I do different is to turn the ignition switch on and flip the kill switch off and on several times until the fuel pump slows down. I do not touch the throttle and will add choke as it starts to keep it running. RandyA

I think I would make two lists of the names of people I have known in my life. One list would be of people I would want to help. The other list would be of people I want to get rid of. So, if I do win, people should think about which list they would be on before they should contact me. RandyA

good news and bad
Venturous Randy replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, like Jeff said, grind the edge off and it will help a lot. Also, pull the engine guard out as much as you can. RandyA -
Are you having issues with both eyes or one? I have put about 7,000 miles on my 1st gen with one eye this past year. Since I have some slight image that is very distorted in my right eye, I usually wear a patch on it. RandyA
