  1. Looks to me like having this problem was a blessing on finding the other problems. IMO, I seriously doubt you will have any problems on the tip of the pencil as it will vaporise and go out the exhaust real quick. On moving my TCI, I just sawed the ears off as you will need to saw one off anyway to have clearance on the airbox. Another thing, when I checked valve clearance, I just made sure the lobe was off the shim and checked clearance. I did not worry about Top Dead Center. RandyA
  2. I have used the axle and jack stand method many times and always had good success. If the bearings or axle don't work well, you have a different problem. I worked at Superior Wheels in the Quality Department for awhile where aluminum wheels were made for GM and others. We had several wheel balancers and calibration was routinely checked. What I have found from local tire suppliers is they can dynamically balance a tire and then loosen the holding fixture and rotate the wheel/tire combo 180 degrees and it will get a different reading. That tells me that their equipment is not repeatable. RandyA
  3. Yeah, with the size of this trailer, pulling it with a 1st gen would be fine. A 2nd gen will only pull it down hill. As far as tools, the only tools you need to carry are the ones you will need. The trick is figuring out what you will need. RandyA
  4. At this time I have two advertizements, one for Dragons of Atlantis and Ultrabook Convertible. When I post this, it will pobably go to something else. RandyA When I looked again, they were different. It looked like they are part of "Ad Choices."
  5. Are you going to do any mountain riding, such as The Blue Ridge Parkway? Also, are you going to join our little family? RandyA
  6. Hey Wayne, keep us posted and maybe we can have a meet & eat with you. There are all kinds of places to ride and eat around there. RandyA
  7. Same principle, but he is wanting to richen it up a little, not lean it. Therefore, he needs to add thicker washers. RandyA
  8. I recently swapped laptops and saved all my favorites and moved them to the new one. There were a couple of my favorites that I had to re-do as they did not bring up the same exact site as before. One of these was my ebay search on venture parts and motorcycles. Before, I would usually have about 150 to 300 listings and even though there were a few things listed that I was not interested in, most were Venture bikes and parts. Now, no matter how I define my search, I either get very few listings, or I will have about 800 to 900 and mostly after market junk. Anybody got a good search suggestion? RandyA
  9. It should pull, not push the air through the radiator. At the moment I am not sure whether it is CW or CCW without looking. RandyA
  10. I have put over 135,000 miles on my 83 and have E-3's. The best it has ever handled was with an Avon on the front and an E-3 on the back. The worst it ever handled above 70mph was with an Avon on the back. RandyA
  11. Yeah, getting old is a b***h ,ain't it? RandyA
  12. Happy Birthday Gorge, Linda and I wish you the best and many, many more. RandyA
  13. Yes, I do remember and it was a real mess with a lot of people going through a lot of anguish. He got 12 years in prision. RandyA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tri-State_Crematory
  14. Yes, I do remember it and if the guy did not get jail time, he should have. That was a really bad situation and caused a lot of people much heart ache. RandyA
  15. Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Loosing our parents is tough, but is part of being adult children. I had a friend die last summer and he was cremated and the only service was at a park near the lake where his friends and family had a "Celebration of Life" service. It was really good. I also would like to be cremated and maybe have something like this. I would also like to have my ashes thrown to the wind off one of the overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe some of you could wave as you ride by. As veteran, I do have access to the national cemetery just a couple of miles from my house where both of my parents are buried. RandyA
  16. Another wear item I did not see mentioned is the fork related to 2nd gear. Once the dogs start jumping out, the fork takes a beating. To do the 2nd gear fix, you will need to either replace the fork or straighten it. RandyA
  17. It is amazing how much newer that bike looks. RandyA
  18. Do they already have whiskers? RandyA
  19. Have you checked the resistor in the spark plug cap? They can corrode and cause this condition. The cap unscrews from the inside where the plug goes. RandyA
  20. The upgrade on my 83 was to replace the entire headlight assembly from an 86 up bike and then go with a PIAA bulb. RandyA
  21. Dingy, if you want to do some more research in the transmission, find out if Yamaha reduced the spring stiffness on the large spring on that shaft. I am thinking that was done to reduce some of the pressure on the thrush washer. RandyA
  22. When I came on, I just got a survey asking a few simple questions about this site. If I responded, I was eligible to win one of two cell phones or a $1,000 Walmart gift card. I started to respond until I read the fine print. Has anyone else seen this? RandyA http://socialsurveypanel.org/survy5/index2-ns-b.php?source=tv1&engsec=7&t202kw=Venturerider.org
  23. Wow, a half century old. Yeah, I remember those days. Hope you have a great one. RandyA
  24. Gary, are you sure that is a MKII and not a MKI? RandyA
  25. HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Skid. Hope it's a real good one. RandyA
