Help, broke down 2,000 miles from home
davepa replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Seaking are you the one that placed a $2 Canadian coin in my 89 VR trunk? If so, it will remain there. When the trunk is opened I will be reminded of your visit to Pennsylvania and I am sure a story will follow... Glad both you gentleman made it home safely! Until we meet again....Regards Dave -
I have been laid off more times than I care to remember. After 28 years with my present employeer I finaly missed the cut, for 18 years I was perched on the bubble just waiting for a pink slip. A few extra dollars can come in handy..

I am doing my part to keep him busy..more work for him in a couple of weeks or a few hundred miles which ever comes first. I hope by then to have some more money to throw at the VR.

After two years of non-use, sitting under a low end cycle cover, resting on a shale driveway, my new to me Blue 89 Vr is back in service. Thanks go to Earl (skydoc) for doing his part to make the bike safe to ride once again. We started with a small list of work needed and will again add to it in the near future. Earl replaced both F/R tires, rebuilt rear caliper, changed rear gear oil, lubed the very dry splines, and checked the bike over for state inspection. Now I need to log some miles on the VR, blow the cob webs out, and get it back to Earl for a carb sync. and other adjustments. Earl had taken some pics of the progress (my camera took a dump) maybe he will add a few to this post. For the ones here who say "This thread worthless without Pics" Regards Dave

Sure, any info on the Beemer would be great as my brother-in-law is not brand specific on what he rides. His hope is to keep his better half on the road as long as possible. They had talked of trying a trike, but thought the sidecar would allow her to stretch out better. Again thanks Dave

My sister-in-law just had a hip replacement and finds herself uncomfortable on the back of their 650 Yamaha star classic. She has asked me to locate a replacement bike with a side car. So, if anyone knows of a bike with side car for sale, Yamaha, Honda, etc. let me know Please.. Dave

Just checking in...any good news from the 2nd dealer? It was nice meeting you the other day, even though I rode in on my OTHER bike. May head your way this afternoon to pick up my 89 VR , if I can pin down Earl, might have to turn your misfortune into a meet and "EAT"! Where is the dealer located? -
Saw a 1987 two tone brown VR in Pennsylvania today, but he didn't see me. It was your buddy Earl or Skydoc to some of you folks. And just for the record, I called him and told him about it!

If you recall earlier posts I totaled a 87 VR just over a year ago. Troubled myself over what to buy as a replacement, which ended up being a 09 red hot sunglo Harley Ultra Classic. I am enjoying the bike and have logged 2600 miles since June 9th. But I missed the last VR gathering! So, guess what followed my home this past week? A new to me 89 Blue Venture Royale with 38,000 miles. Needs some cleaning, adjusting, and of course a little help from my friends. That being said, I'm back! Hope to see ya on the road..... Regards Dave

Not sure I can get the days off from work, the railroad is crazy busy right now. Might try to ride up one afternoon if the boss will give me half a day off. I'll let you know if I can make it.

ABS not available with the color I chose- red hot sunglo- too late in the model year to find one. Even though the Ultra came off the assembly line 2 weeks ago. My 87 VR would have run rings around the Ultra, VR smoother, the handleing of the 09 HD is very impressive compared to earlier models. Still not a peg scraper like the 87 Yamaha but handles very well. The 6th gear is great on the highway! Was looking for a RSV but the 09 offered NO changes. Tried a 09 Wing--my inseam is too long Kawasaki Voyager still not available in my area to test drive So I rode the Ultra, fit was excellent, all the new changes were positive, and Denise liked the passenger back rest and the fact she could control the radio station from the rear. To top it off I am pleased with my purchase ! 600 miles on the odometer now, made a loop sunday passed through Pa., Md., and Wv feels good to smile again PS: Yes please pick up any parts that I might leave behind, drop me a e-mail , I will give you shipping instructions for priority mail flate rate box to my address..:mo money:I will refund your shipping fees via PayPal... Now Let's Ride Regards Dave

The insurance company had a small part, but I worked a lot of overtime through the winter to help fund a new purchase.

Having totaled my 87 VR on 6-27-08 I am back in the saddle! Sent these pics to Earl (Skydoc_17) as I promised he would be the first to see what bike I ended up buying. Earl helped me go over my VR and record all the damage from the crash and shot some photos to go along with "our" damage report. I posted on the forum some of the events of the crash, insurance adjuster, etc. so here is the conclusion of the story.. It was not an easy picking another bike, and I looked at many new ,used, and manufactures. So here it is... http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/Davepa5/?action=view¤t=harley101.jpg&evt=user_media_share Regards Dave PS...can I still come to the Skid In ??

visit your local Napa store and, in the headlight bulb area look for an H4 bulb stock number BP1210/H4. Rated at 80 watts on low beam and 100 on high The bulb is sold by Wagner. Do NOT do this if you have a light bar connected to your headlight circuit. The additional amperage may be too great for your stock fuse and you could lose all your front lighting at some point. Before adding the higher powered bulb make sure your extra lighting (light bar, driving lights, spots, fog, etc. ) added has its own circuit. After all you don't need to blow a fuse and lose all four front lighting! Driving/extra lighting wiring. http://www.gadgetjq.com/drivinglight_wiring_diagram.gif

Thanks I am researching using many of the posts , computers have come along way in a few years since my last Dell purchase. Trying to deceide between 32 or 64 bit, any comments ? Any disadvantage with staying with the 32 bit?
-
Maybe mine is a lemon! This Dell had issues from day one. Had the bios flashed 3 times in the first couple months. Dell went in remotely to correct other software issues. Started running stable and memory stick failed, installed additional memory ran good for a while and usb ports would fail. And lastly the usb port pins shorted and caused fire...and the port was not being used....other than that, excellent machine ! Reminds me of a Chevrolet Vega my wife had when when we were first married... Geez that is this coming Wed. 02/04/09 ...25 years...do you think she might want a new computer?
-
Thanks Brian saved in my favorites
-
Thanks for all the input! I opened the case again today, it seems the front usb port pins some how touched/shorted and sprayed fire across the mother board. The hard drive, power supply, extra memory, and all other componets seem to be ok since they are reading 12 volts The mother board is toast and locked so I will not repair the tower, good news I can still retrieve the data on the hard drive. Stick a fork in it I'm done with DELL.
