  3. I have to agree Ken the little shop is something to behold when you walk in. I have also had the pleasure to have Earl do some maintenance on my 89 VR and must say his work is excellent. And the company of both Earl and Jean is second to none, good old hospitality as it should be. Regards Dave
  4. New forum trying to get started. The gentleman who has it up and running is from Harpers Ferry, WV. Young forum with only 75 members. I joined since I live in the Tri-State area (PA) and own a cottage in West Virginia. Nice to know about all the local events/rides close to home. They have not had a meet and eat yet, but as membership grows it is sure to happen. So, check it out! http://www.westvirginiabikers.com/wvforum/index.php Regards Dave
  5. Now I need to stop by your place, (at some random unknown time), and get all the details of your trip. I have been waiting and watching for your post, glad you made the trip safely! Regards Dave
  6. Spent last evening in the garage installing the wiring for my newly acquired heated jacket liner, gloves, and dual portable remote on my VR and Ultra. If you saw an earlier post which I asked for input from all the heated gear users here, I ordered from http://www.warmnsafe.com/ I rechecked my connections this morning and went for a little ride towards Altoona, PA. ended up a 107 mile round trip on the Ultra. The air temp was 43 degrees as measured by the gauge in my fairing. At 70mph on RT99/220 I was chilled, turned on the jacket liner to full power and within several minutes I was too hot. Turned the knob slowly to 1/8 power and results perfect , with my feet out on the highway pegs, I was comfortable. The gloves at 43 degree where to warm when powered on even with the adjustment knob at the lowest setting. So they should be perfect when the temp drops some. The great part no bulky clothing. I was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt, heated liner, and leather jacket, chaps, 3/4 helmet with shield up. My riding season has just been extended! Now to take out the VR and see how the charging system handles the added electrical drain. Looking back, I should have made this purchase years ago....thanks again for the responses Regards Dave
  7. Congrats on the Glide! I kept an eye on the original post of you helping to get '79 running again and also feel that you were very deserving of such a gift. I am sure you will enjoy the HD as much as do mine, of course, it will not replace the VR. They are two completely different bikes, a blast to ride in their own way...
  8. Thanks all I am glad to be back! I am also enjoying my 09 Ultra Classic but the old VR is a blast to ride and much quicker. Just had to get another so I could keep up with Earl...I stopped by on my UC and ask Earl if he wanted to go for a ride and he said "sure if you don't mind looking at my tail light" Regards Dave
  9. Picked up another VR in June and showed up at Earl's (skydoc) Earl helped put her back into service with carb synch, rebuilt front calipers, rebuilt rear caliper, f/r pads, mounted new tires f/r, radiator drain upgrade, and a general going over. Heck he even took it for a ride and had it PA state inspected......... So here are a couple pics I took this evening.. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0651.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0654.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0652.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0653.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0650.jpg Regards Dave
  10. Glad to here the clothing kept you comfy..I ordered the Generation 4 jacket liner, gloves, and dual controller from Warm & Safe Sunday evening. Can't wait to give the heated gear a test drive.
  11. I have done this on car exhaust manifold bolts... Use a small propane torch to heat the bolt until it is hot enough to melt candle wax. Put a candle on top of the bolt so the bolt liquefies some of the wax. The heat will pull the liquid wax down onto the threads of the bolt. Sometimes you can back the broken bolt out by hand.
  12. Seaking I also tried the different items on the market including insulated gloves, both motorcycle and ski, the National Cycle hand wind guards(on a Nomad), etc. Save your money and shelf space and look for heated gloves. That is what I am searching for now. IN fact, if you find a discount dealer for the heated gear up your way, send me the link!
  13. Thanks ...after reading your post I found my slide rule, calculator ,and no.2 pencil. As I kneel on the garage floor with the print out of your calculations, I have come to the conclusion that my old pencil gauge was not seated correctly on the valve stem. The small amount of air lost gave me a false reading. This evening, if time allows, I will again try to check the pressure in the tires. The results this time I hope to be better and more accurate. Of course, I will lay on a blanket, not kneel, and perhaps have a better pencil gauge to valve stem angle. That being said, I still have not purchased a digital gauge! Thanks again for your help...Regards Dave
  14. THANKS for the link...that is the info I am looking for!

  21. How does the sizing compare to the HJC helmets? I have been looking for the evoline and I have no dealers nearby. The only one I tried, at a bike rally, was XL and I wear a Medium in a HJC. I have a fear of incorrect fitment so I hesitate to order on line due to NO returns. Thanks

The group will come to Cumberland from Wellersburg, Pa., on state Route 36, then down Mechanic Street before turning onto Interstate 68 and arriving at the college between 9 a.m. and 9:30. After leaving Cumberland, it will go to the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., and Ground Zero in New York City.
