Newfoundland and Labrador are largely rural fishing populations and have been somewhat separated from the rest of Canada by culture and the fact they are an island. The people in the urban areas of Canada sometimes see them as a backwards heavy drinking people and the butt of jokes. Any Newfs that I know are a fun loving and hardworking people that love a good joke, even at their expense. Its kinda ironic that in the last few years after being the butt of so many jokes for so many years, 2 areas of Canada that now have some of the strongest economies are Newfoundland and Saskatchewan, making it real enjoyable for us to come up with jokes about the former centers of the universe, Ontario, and Quebec....lol:cool10: Brian

It worked this morning, but doesnt work now, it looks like the ad has been removed. It looked like Charlies FJR with the venturerider.org sticker on the fairing. Brian

Try these guys, the Laminar lip. its an add on to your windshield to give you more height in rain, so maybe you could cut you windshield down for heat and add this on for the cool wet days. I know a couple of guys with Kawi concours that use them and they like it. http://www.laminarlip.com/venture.php I have the goldwing vent in my Clearview xxl shield and I am amazed how much it helps cool on a hot day. I also find that if i crack it open a bit on a windy day it helps with the buffetting. Brian

Ahh! I understood it to mean that you could only take your hand off the throttle breifly and it would fail, i had it bass-ackwards..... Brian
-
Why cant you take your hand off? I rest my hand on my knee for miles at a time (or on a pretty passengers knee) and have no issues unless its real windy or a steep hill. My cruise is even better this year since I had all the throttle cables replaced it seems to set quicker and doesnt bump off at small hills as quickly as it used to. I wonder if you need a cable tightened up or if you have a small vacuum leak? I also have throttle rockers on right and left as it allows me to open my hands while riding and makes a nice wider place to rest my hands to avoid cramping in my hands.(they sell them as a set for the left and right for about 20 bucks) Brian

My 85 leaked badly out of the rear boot just before the shaft snapped just forward of the ujoint and took out the middle gear assy. You would have to ask Rocket what he thinks happened there as he did the rebuild and I just dont know what caused the thing to fail. I paid a so called mechanic to change the oil and synch my carbs a couple of days before that and really overfilled my oil so I think that might be what started the oil leak back there. After Rocket did the middle gear assy rebuild I had a nasty leak on the left lower side coming out on the stator wire through the rubber grommet . What fixed it after a couple of tries was a new grommet, using brake cleaner on the wire and the fabric covering on it to really clean and get all the oil off of it, then letting it dry overnight. Got some good RTV and coated the wire with it on both sides of the grommet and then pull the wire back and forth a couple of times to force the RTV and grommet to get a good seal. then button it back up using a new gasket. Welcome to the group! I am sure you will find this group an informative and fun place about your Venture. I would try Pinwall's ebay store if youre in a hurry as they usually have venture parts for buy it now option. http://stores.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc/Yamaha-Venture-1983-1993-/_i.html?_fsub=4&_sid=12458664&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 Or for a new part you could try www.partshark.com and look up your part in their OEM parts fiche section. http://www.partshark.com/custompage.asp?pg=yamahaparts Another option might be to drop skydoc in here a msg as he rebuilds some calipers and may be able to help you out. brian

Yep, if you have a source for old keyboard din5 cables youre gonna save some cash. In your defence Geekdom is getting to be a pretty big job definition that covers a lot of ground. LOL Brian -
I use a Sharp Xacti Camera mounted on the handlebars with a normal flexible mini tripod wrapped on with Velcro. Its simple it works well for me and I can take still and video pics. In about 10 seconds I can have it off the bike and be taking pics hand held. I leave the video screen open and just select whether I want video or a pic by pressing the correct button. This isnt waterproof but in the rain who wants a pic anyway? Here is a link to the camera [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-VPC-CG20-Definition-Camcorder-Camera/dp/B0036TH7J4/ref=dp_cp_ob_p_title_3]Amazon.com: Sanyo VPC-CG20 High Definition Camcorder & 10 MP Camera: Camera & Photo@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/419JrZLOMAL.@@AMEPARAM@@419JrZLOMAL[/ame] And here is a video from the Kruisn the kootenays taken with it. Yep Just got her back from getting all new throttle cables and some other maintenance work done And its been great riding to work and around town last few days. Today just had the Class issue raise its head with the 88 issue so I guess I have to try to do some soldering on the weekend, will be a good chance to try out how the eye works on close up stuff.... puttin a cb in Brownie? Hows she running for ya? Brian -
when my venture was running badly i have used over 1/2 can in 3/4 tank of fuel and it cleared the issues. But I had to replace a plug afterward as the cleared-out carbon ended up fouling out the sparkplug. I usually use a couple of ounces in every second or thrid tank. Brian
