Have a fantastic Day!!!!! you deserve to have a great 29th birthday................ again! Brian

As I understand it, the frame issue is something that can be failry easily reinforced and I think ive read that Yamaha did a recall to try and fix that issue. But if its already broken it could lead to big issues quickly. However,I am not aware of it happening all that often on the ventures, but I thought it should be something you should be aware of. I am not aware of any way to lower these bikes except by doing things like shaving the seat and lowering the air suspension all the way. Brian

Well next time youre thinking about going to a rally let me know, it would be good to have another rider coming out of sask. that would make 3 bikes...lol! Brian

you probably have another 100,000 miles in that engine according to what Ive seen with these things they just go one forever. If you check in classifieds in here i think Skydoc is selling various things to help us keep our old bikes on the road, i am pretty sure he handles progressives. MiCarl is another memeber that runs a bike repair shop that could probably help you get parts and he is in Michigan if your close to there. brian -
well it may be a good bike, most ventures at that age are stilll good bikes, but I would have to question why he would be selling quickly, it sounds a bit off. At 5ft7 I would think you may have trouble riding this bike as it sits real tall and I dont think there is any way of lowering it after the air is out of the shocks. Use the class system on the lower right of the panel with the key set at acc NOT with the engine running or all the way on, and let all the air out of the front and rear shocks. If it doesnt work its another fix to do. i Am 6ft and at some intersections i have to tiptoe the bike. A couple of things to check on the 83's are frame breaking just above the center stand, and 2nd gear will let go frequently by about 40k miles, so a ride is necessary to get it up to about 20 mph get 2nd gear and accelerate hard to see if it pops out. Good luck with your search for a good machine. Brian

Do you have progressive fork springs in or the Condor Brace on yet? My 85 was a bit wobbly until a got the old springs replaced in the forks with progressives. (probably under 80 bucks) Brian -

while you have the collector off I would still cut it open and remove the baffles as they will eventiually come loose. i think Freebird has the whole procedure documented on the site somewhere. Brian -

The ZZZZ's are an important part of any after trip wind down. Its kind of like a conditioned athlete that warms up before an activity and winds down after. You just cant get back from a trip and jump into regular activities, it just aint good for a person....lol! Glad to hear youre back home safe and sound......(that sound you hear may be your own snoring......lol) Thanks for everything Jack,.... you and Vic and everyone pulled off a fantastic rally!!!! Brian

A friend of mine here in Regina tried to import a complete trike with no success as the trikes were outlawed years ago when the old Honda 3 wheel trikes were deemed so dangerous when a lot of people got hurt. The blanket ban includes any kind of trike unless it is built in Canada. Don eventually ended up ordering a kit (Hannigan I think) and hiring a company here to do the install here. Then you will have to do a basic safety inpsection(no biggie) after its done before you plate it. If you need more info I can hunt down Don after he is back from vacation in a couple of weeks and get his number if you want to call. Brian

Crap!! Sorry to hear of your bad luck..... A second vote on the not using epoxy or fiberglass, a previous owner used it on my trunk and just made a mess that didnt stick to the ABS very well. Some have had good luck heating up bits of heavy metal screen and pressing it into the plastic on the backside of the cracks to reinforce, and then do your finer finishing after. PS i like PLastex, as it comes with a powdered plastic filler in a few different colours, as well as the solvent so you can actually build up new pieces with their product. I saw Rocket build some parts for my bikes radio panel within a couple of minutes and it was strong as new and invisible when done. My 85 has something similar to what you describe and I think its pretty typical of these engines and is probably nothing to worry about. That being said, if you have concerns, i would maybe have a quick look at the back of the gearcase the next time you have the wheel off. Just for giggles, check your output shaft coming out and check for end play and free play at the back of the engine. Maybe unloading it when you pull in the clutch youre taking stress off the gearset or the ujoint and perhaps thats where your noise is. brian
