All In One Good or Bad ?
friesman replied to FROG MAN's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
No issues that I am aware of, as they are basically a laptop thats been rearranged a bit. The only downside is that everything is proprietary, and that always translates into more cash to fix when something goes wrong. The old-style towers used so many interchangeable generic parts that they were cheap and easy to fix. Brian -
I have come to the conclusion that i hate wearing leather chaps as they are hot and dont really protect you in hip and butt where youre going to slide on asphalt anyway. The chaps do help on the cool days but overall I would rather wear the Diamond Gussett Defender Jeans most of the time. (And yes, they have protected me from roadrash when I slid on pavement) They are much cooler than chaps and offer much better protection in the event of a slide as they are lined with Kevlar in the hip, knees, and butt, and the price is probably a tad less than chaps. http://www.gussetclothing.com/ Brian

If anyone needs new mufflers for their G1 Venture, (at least I think these are for a G1), they should try Niche Cycle. According to their website it looks like they still have MAC turn downs in stock. I was under the impression that there wasnt any mufflers being made any longer for the G1 bikes so this might be a good opportunity if your pipes are getting worn. I dont know anything about this company, I just looked at the website, so check them out before ordering, and make sure that they are for the G1 bike, not the G2. http://www.nichecycle.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=004-4315&type=0&eq=&desc=Yamaha-Venture-Turn-Down-Mufflers Brian

bike wil not start
friesman replied to icemonster's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would disconnect the battery and take it somewhere to get tested, I am wondering if the battery has shorted out. I am also worried that you may have damaged something else by jump starting if you saw smoke and got lots of heat.... Brian -
Does getting a bunch of recorded messages bug you when you call a company for info? I stumbled across the website yesterday and ive tried a couple of the numbers and ideas and it seems to be right. The idea is that they have found some number combinations that a person can enter that will bypass all the machines when you call a company and compiled it into a list. Evidently most companies have these backdoors so the staff can dial in a hurry and bypass the stuff the rest of us have to go through to get to talk to a real person. Welcome! To the friendliest insane asylum you'll ever find anywhere....lol Brian -
I did the cheap and easy fix one time just to stop dust and water from coming in. I duct taped of the holes trying to line the curves up with how the body flowed, and then I bought some of the expandable foam in a can an lifted a corner of the tape and sprayed enough foam into the hole to fill it when it expands. When the foam dries you can peel the tape off and it will be failry smooth and you can run some paint over it to colour it. Its not the most pretty fix, but it is quick and easy and stops the snow drifts and dust from getting into the vehicle. Brian

Tie down strap question.
friesman replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I got mine from the previous owner I rented a uhaul trailer and made up a wheel chock out of 2x4 to help hold the front wheel straight. I felt that I wanted to keep the front wheel facing directly straight forward and not tuned and case of any forward pressure would be absorbed by the whole front fork assy, not one side or the other. Kruis'n the Kootenays / Holiday Park Resort ?
friesman replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
I dont know the resort, but do know that you will love Kelowna and the area, there are several wineries in the area that you can visit and sample, and lots do do with all the lakes in the area. Kelowna is about 150,000 ppl (I think) so has all the amenities and malls that most cities that size have, and I dont think there are any areas of town that you have to look out for. The golf courses are great, my brothers fav is Predator Ridge (I dont golf, its all 2nd hand). If you dont mind socializing with some FJR folks , i beleive the Yamaha FJR folks are having their INTL meet at Castlegar (not too far from Nelson) the week before KTK so it would be a nice ride. Anydirection you go is good roads and lots to see, but because of the mountain ranges there really is only a couple of ways to get to Nelson from Kelowna, south and North...lol. SilvrT knows the BC interior really well and will probably have more to add. I will be running that way after KTK to visit family and love the ride through interior of BC through the farmland and mountain passes. Brian Brian -

1985 Venture with 61k
friesman replied to sgilbert14's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Welcome to Ventureriders the big deal is the 2nd gear issue, but it was fixed by Yamaha about half way thru the 85 model year but I cant remember the VIN number where the change was made. (Ill look around and see if I can find it) If its above this number you should be ok, if its below you might have an issue. 85s are kind of a unique animal as they share some parts with the 83 and 84, and some with the 86 -93. The water pumps still had the plastic impeller in if its stock and may break down over time, and you may have to do some minor soldering on the Class Air ride controller and I would defintely put in progressive springs in if it hasnt been done already. The progressive springs are probably the best things you can do for your bike for under a hundred bucks and its fairly easy to do. I have an 85 as well and like mine a lot , feel free to ask if you have any questions, I am not a mechanic by any stretch, but I will try to answer your questions. Brian -
Powder coating wheels
friesman replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
i dont remember who does it, but there are some companies that do the "black Chrome" finish on plastic and they have a lot of different finshes, I am sure you would find something that will look sharp. Brian -
good luck with your goal, I am sure the weather will cooperate with you. (keeping my fingers crossed for you) (BTW as long as youre battery holds a good charge and is fully charged you shouldnt have to bring it in. My Escapes battery has been out below -40f and not frozen. My bikes battery has been out in -20f with no issues and the bike started up just fine. BUT if the battery doesnt have a charge or of its getting weak, there is a real possibility it could freeze at a real cold temp) Brian
