Arm Rest 1200 vs 1300
friesman replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If youre talking about the passenger armrests, the 1200's dont really have any the seat back is all one piece, the 1300's have a 3 piece backrest/armrest combo. Brian -
Is it possible that youre having the same middle gear issue that I am? I dont know if the G2's are prone to that, but the way you descibe it its exactly the noise my 85 is doing and I had a guy diagnose it the other day as the middle gear assy just where the shaft exits the engine. Theres a vid with the noise on my bike on a current thread, i think I called the noise a rattle. My bike has been making noise for a while but i couldnt really hear where it was coming from and it didnt sound serious until the last trip. Here is the link to my thread and to the vid so you can have a listen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=73420 Brian

to Freelance Rocket ran into that same issue when rebuilding my 85, he took it all apart and put together and it worked fine, but I dont think he ever found why it was binding. But send him a pm and see if he can add some info. Brian This thread is way old and should probably have had a new thread started, but oh well...

gear jump under acceleration
friesman replied to Pernese's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
HI David Welcome to the group. After 1/2 way thru 85 model year the issue was fixed. If you want to test if 2nd is weak take the bike out and give it wide open throttle in 2nd gear, if its weak it will jump out. From what ive seen it looks like over 50% of the bikes will have the issue, but it doesnt hurt the bike you can just skip 2nd gear when driving it, as 2nd gear just fails to engage when the bushing gets worn. You are safe from the 2nd gear issue on anything 86 or newer. Brian- 28 replies

chatter sound
friesman replied to friesman's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A mechanic friend and I had a look at the bike today and it looks like the middle gear assy is gone again This is the 2nd time, I wonder what would cause this to fail, could there be something out of line? I dont baby my 85 but I dont abuse her either and I am just fed up at this point. I really hope I dont have any trans damage this time, but I am just going ot fix it if the bill is going to be resonable and sell it, I just cant seem to depend on this bike. Brian -
chatter sound
friesman replied to friesman's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No oil leaks anywhere. But it does sound suspiciously (but not exactly) like it did just before the middle gear/u joint assy blew out in California in 08. and it disappears when I pull in the clutch or left of the gas, so its not the wheels or brakes as that would be constant. ( I think) . Did you have good luck with replacing your ujoint assy without taing the engine out? Brian -
when ya get it figured out and ya need a carbtune youre welcome to borrow mine. I am in the south end of Regina right by Southland mall. Brian

Have you double checked all the vacuum lines? Mybe you have an open line sucking air that wont let the vacuum build up. My 85 had a leak this spring and it ran like crap when I found a plastic t-connector broken apart allowing it to suck a ton of air. Brian

Expert ideas? Ive got this new sound in the last few days that seems to be coming from low in the bottom left front of the crankcase. When the engine is idling there is no clatter noise and it only seems to appear when I am under light to medium acceleration (I dont know if it makes it under WOT as the mufflers are making too much noise), as soon as I back off the throttle or pull in the clutch the noise goes away. The noise is not loud in 1st gear and seems to increase in 2nd and 3rd gearand continues in 4th and 5th. I am afraid it sounds to me like ive got a spun bearing somewhere in the transmission, but I need some experts (........and you guys too:stickpoke:) to weigh in on this and tell me what your thoughts are. Ill enclose i vid that was taken on the weekend an you can hear what I am talking about. it has a bit of an exhaust leak, but I am sure thats not the issue. I have also had the bottom of the collector opened up and the loose pieces taken out so it shouldnt be anything inside the exhaust. Thanks in advance for the help everyone!

I use AVG and have never had an issue with their free software. I would not use Norton as Ive found it to be a real hog on resources and slows your machine down. Here is a link to snapfiles.com's free ware section, just look for an antivirus program ( i like AvG and Avast) and read and pick, snapfiles rates them by popularity by users and for ease of use. http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/ bRIAN

Ride thru the park before fall really sets in.
friesman replied to friesman's topic in Watering Hole
Ray, i just used the clamp that came with the Drift on the crash bar and it works fine down there, and I like the perspective. But on the highway i like to put it up on the handlebars where its protected from rocks and bugs. Swifty, I apologize for the exhaust leak, but I also think I may have something going on in the transmission or clutch as I get a rattle just as the throttle is lightly on but it disappears under more throttle or if I back off. It kinda has me worried, I hope its minor, but I really gont know how to find out what the noise is for sure.. Brian -
I thought I should take a ride thru Wascana Park in Regina SK. today before the first frost of the season that is forecast tonight takes most of the leaves. It was a good time to try out Drift camera and take a short ride thru what is touted as the largest urban park in North America. Then I went into downtown a bit until the 2gb card filled up. Ive got the Drift set at 1080 res but I am sure that You Tube really drops resolution. I am really happy with the camera and mount it in a couple of places on the bike, but still like the low mount point on the front crash bar the best for around town. Brian

Ive used Gorilla glue on a small project bonding wood to a steel edge and the staff at Lowes recommeneded the Gorilla glue. It goes on like regular white glue, but over a bit of time it expands like the expandle spray foam from a can. I liked it real well, and after it set ip for a day i just trimmed off the extra with a knife and scraper. http://au.gorillaglue.com/eng/glues/glue-list/1/8/gorilla-glue.html Brian

But if Yamaha had brought out a new style Venture ill bet your Ventures would have plummetted. So some guys might be careful what you wish for when wanting a new design. Brian

I used it once and it gave me some info on where the car was from and whether it had been in a serious acccident or not, so in that repect I found it somewhat helpful. It doesnt give a bunch of info though. Can I ask what about it makes it useless to you , MIke? Brian
