Are your weather temps fairly warm? and does it only happen after you've been running the bike for a while? Ill bet youre hearing your fan come on. Try putting your kickstand down to kill the engine, then listen for the fan. Brian

As we discussed in the email a couple of days ago, they can do some amazing things with microsurgery on eyes now. I am hoping and wishing for best possible outcomes for you, and have lots of confidence that things will work out great for you. Brian

It sounds to me like your OEM fork springs are just worn out. A huge improvement in handling and performance is adding the Progressive fork springs. Its a fairly easy job to do and the new springs are under a 100 bucks. My 85 always seemed to hit bottom when going up a driveway etc until the fork springs were changed out. Brian

Feels loose in corners
friesman replied to MongoE9's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 03 RSV was loose when I got it and I felt like it wanted to track everywhere the pavement had a low spot, and corners were a kind of adventure I didn't like much. I found the tire pressures were way low and once I got that fixed up the bike was way better, but there was still a bit squiirly, so I bought the low volume pump from Harley and found one side of the forks had 7 lbs the other tube had no pressure. Now it rides great! Life is good! I hope you get yours fixed with a minimum of effort and expense. Brian -
Nice!!! I really love your gauges!

Need light weight outdoor cover for 2nd Gen RSV
friesman replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
this is the one I am ordering, I havnt used it but it looks like the best deal for what I want. Its small and it really only has to cover the top part of the bike so it folds up smaller. ( and I like that it comes in a colour to match my bike too!) http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/971/36883/ITEM/Show-Chrome-Ultragard-Classic-Half-Cover.aspx#VideoWrapperDesc -
I am involved with Ride for Sight, as my way of paying back for all the issues that have been fixed up in my own eyes. I hope we can raise enough money over the next few years that no one will lose their sight to disease. Through the people ive met while helping with RFS I got a call that a writer was doing an article on the Ride for Sight and had heard that I had temporarily lost vision over the years and she wanted to talk to me about riding and how frustrating it was not being able to ride while waiting for things to get better. So we chatted over the phone and compared notes on vision loss, and then she also interviewed Rod Broadfoot (he bought my 85 Venture) as well to find out more about what is being done for Ride for Sight.. (Some of you will remember Rod and his wife Myrna from Cody a couple of years ago and also Pork in the Pines) The result was a good article on Marissa's vision issues and how she has been able to get back riding again, how Ride for Sight raises money Canada wide and Rod and I got our mugs and bikes in Canadian Biker. Ill attach the pages of the article but I'm not sure if youll be able to read them unless you click on the pic open it, then click again to open in a separate page, then, hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard and turn the wheel on your mouse to make the print bigger. When visiting the Rockies I hear most people say watch out for the bears, and Ive always thought that wolves seemed to be a bit more agressive than most people thought,.. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2013/06/12/calgary-wolf-banff-motorcycle-ob.html Brian

But the Nature of things and David Suzuki and his "cult" want to stop the use of oil completely immediately and want to stop almost any resource industry. Its a very one sided type of program, so I would suggest getting info from other sources too. As I understand fracking in basic terms there are 2 types, shallow mostly of nat gas and deep fracking to get at the deep oil reserves. Just south of here is the northern end of the Bakken field and around here all the wells are very deep and its very unlikely that any issues may result because of the layes and layers of structure. Most of the issues around here seem to be the increased traffic, and the heavy trucks beating up our roads and the spills associated with the transport of the oil out of the area. But, a lot of places in the US that I am reading about are using fracking to get at the Natural gas that is fairly shallow in comparison and there have been a lot of issues along the easter US around the Pennsylvania area if I remember correctly. There are cases of water being contaminated and other issues and its being looked at very closely to see if its something that should be continued. brian

Exhaust Chirp
friesman replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
to me, it sounds a lot like the sound my 85 had when the baffle in the exhaust collector shook loose. A friend and I laid the bike over cut a trap door in the collector, took the loost baffle out and welded the collector back up and then welded a steel plate over that to ensure it would hold up. brian -
I think its called a j mold and it cushions and supports the instrument cluster against the inside fairing. I lost one, and then glued them in after that. I think I got the last NOS left one from Partshark 18 months ago. right after that they delisted that part. Brian

Sorry to hear youre having issues:think:, mine is working fine with no issues at all. Brian

Ya cant let a bit of rain keep ya inside. Ya should move to mostly sunny Sask, Since I bought my bike on May 1 Ive got 3300 kms on her. We may have a bit more snow in winter than you, but when its gone its riding time...... Brian

New Member new to me Bike
friesman replied to Huggy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
here are a couple of places I used to find parts for my 85, Pinwall cycle- used parts, http://stores.ebay.ca/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc/Venture-1983-1993-/_i.html?_fsub=3669172014&_sid=12458664&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 Partshark.com- new parts, but they also have all the parts diagrams online so you can lookup what you need. http://www.partshark.com/custompage.asp?pg=yamahaparts good luck with your bike and welcome to the group! Brian -
Maybe this will help you to find it. Here is the Kisan Modulator I was going to have installed on my 85 but never did. https://www.kisantech.com/index.php?cat_id=2 Brian

Wow, Jack you are one lucky dude:yikes:, (must be all that clean living... ) So glad that you and your bike are fine. Brian

might be a dumb question? not motorcycle related

When I worked for Sears selling furniture and appliances, "to the door" meant uncrated and inside the house where you wanted it. But that was a few years ago and a different country. Brian -
Here in Sask. We pay 5% on used bikes over a value of 3000 bucks, but I do know some provinces like Alberta where there is no sales tax on new or used. (well no sales tax on anything there really). No title fees here in Sask, but my insurance and registration with complete coverage on collision, liability, loss of work, and medical runs me about 110 a month when I am riding, and about 50 bucks yearly when parked and stored. Brian

I appreciate the offer to save some bucks, but, By the time I take a couple of days off work, fly down, spend a night in hotel and look the bike over, probably pay for a tire or other issue to be fixed and then ride home, I am close to the same price. So, unless its a screaming deal, Ill shop North of the 49th. (Plus my speedometer has the right reading, kph....) Brian

great news, and good luck!!! brian

yes substantially more in some places, esp in Western Canada it seems. I paid 7500 for my new-to-me 2003 RSV 2 weeks ago, its spotless and has 28k miles on it. (brand new tires and battery, and showed me all the bills since bike was new.) But for me it was a good deal, it was exactly the bike and colour I wanted and I am very happy with the RSV. Brian

The only really costly item that I would be concerned about would be the rear shock. Look underneath and check the shock for oil residue around the bottom of the shock. that's a sign the shock is leaking fuid and could be about to fail, the run from about 600 to 800 to replace. brian

Havn the same issues with the Bridestones on the 03, although playing with pressures in the rear shock has helped out quite a bit with the feel of the bike. I don't know if I am going to be able to wait to wear out these tires, I may be swappin out when the wallet recovers. Brian
